I do not use a specific release cue on the course. The cue for the next obstacle is the release cue. At the start line I use side or close depending on what side I want the dog to sit, walk out and the ‘over’ cue for the jump releases them.
The only time I use a release cue (break) is when I am initially training a behaviour. IE: The first step on a start line stay was away from a jump and the break cue just released them from the sit. But I quickly dropped the break cue.
My question is in the weave training when should I start using the ‘weave’ cue. I don’t think they are really weaving on 2 poles or the 4 in week two but I am worried that the break cue is going to become my weave cue.
What do you think?
Julie,
I totally understand your question. I prefer to NOT name a behavior until it is actually formed. Two poles is not weaving. I would not add until at least 6. That said, come up with a temporary release cue such as go that gives Trix permission to be released from the sit. Again, this is a really nice and biddable dog. Well done!
