ParticipantGood evening,
Strut and I started over on Wk 2. Today was the second session. Still struggling with the onside entries, but I see progress. On the offside, Strut is 100% and I see a rhythm beginning. At the end of this session I closed the poles to 4’ to see where he was. Thoughts on staying at 4 feet? I changed up rewards and while they are a higher value, found they are harder to see in the grass, so will need to rethink rewards. Strut is tracking my throw more than I would like but hope that will decrease as the rewards come only at the end. -

ParticipantHi Carol,
Let’s talk later. I am afraid you are creating a behavior chain you don’t want. I am happy to discuss this on the phone. 412 877 8352 The other thing I am noticing is your position for the second set of poles. You are far away and the set up is sort of loosey goosey. *spelling?* What we want to develop is anticipatory behavior for the second set just as we did for the first set. It is that anticipation followed by reinforcement that builds the strength of the behavior through classical conditioning. So I am happy to talk later, perhaps around 7 my time?

ParticipantBarb, thank you for the phone conference offer. That is well above and beyond the scope of the class. Sadly, I have a previous engagement for later this evening so unable to take you up on the offer. But it is very much appreciated.
Yes, I see the behavior chain: miss the entry, come jump up at me, go back and be correct and get rewarded. Strut has been raised to accept failure, as indicated by lack of reward, then try again on his own to figure it out. I wanted to see if that would sort it out for him. It did not :(. So, my assumption is, if he misses the second entry, stop him, take him back to the beginning and restart.
I also did face the second set of poles on one send, which I am betting is the loosey goosey set up ( LOL . Again I wanted to see if that was HIS missing link. It wasn’t.
The video angle makes it look like I was further away than I actually was. I was about 2 1/2 – 3 feet away.
Something is missing on just that one side entry. As you see, he is nailing the off side entry at 100% but the onside is just not clicking. If both entries were faulty, I would think it was more something I was doing.
If the auditors are following this thread, they are certainly get to see errors, both from the dog and handler. Happy to help! Ha Ha Ha.

ParticipantThe side of the weaves where you are having difficulty is THE MOST DIFFICULT of the sides. the dog is actually eventually faced with a number of weave openings. Whereas on the other side there is only one thing to do…wrap the first pole.
As far as people seeing errors, I will be posting my program with Jack from today. My challenge is he loves the game and it is difficult for me to stop him to reset my scooter. So wait till you see. We all struggle 🙂
