    Wind in Hair – 3/8/24
She’s been kinda bonkers when she isn’t napping but she was excited about playing outside once she got to pick her toy. She thinks this game is more fun with more space. I was so happy she was doing so well outside that I forgot to add the “go”. And she clearly doesn’t need the larger 2in high (4in diameter) jump bumps based on how she is sailing over the 1in high (2in diameter) ones.

    Wrap Cues -3/8/24
She didn’t want to stop tugging after her short Wind in Hair session so I decided to see what she would do with the pre-game. I was pretty sure she would nail it so didn’t start right up by the wing. Other than me flailing around with the toys I like how this went.

And I packed her new Agility leash away after she posed for the picture with lots of treats. Figured I don’t want her getting any weird associations with it while she’s going through her “my harness is lava” stage.

    Moving Target- 3/7/24

I think we are getting close to her first heat cycle and the week of having the house get new siding didn’t help. Until about a week ago she was showing a lot of signs of growing up some – hardly any pop-rock moments, working for a toy in the yard and at Fusion, better focus etc. This week’s been challenging -she’s barkier in general, more distractable, avoiding her harness, and boinging around a lot. She’s also choosing to nap in beds at the other end of the room when previously she almost always was on top of my lap if I was on the couch.

Did a short session of the Moving target in the back yard over lunch with mixed results, Mixed up my marker cues at first and discovered that at least today she seemed to understand grab it (toy in my hand) vs get it (tossed or dead toy away from me). Said Grab it and she released. Accidentally said Get it the next time and she didn’t budge. Happened twice. She kept changing her mind on which long fluffy toy she wanted and then got boingy when she heard Kaladin barking inside. I swapped them and let Kaladin try the game (he nailed it by the way even though non-frizzers are not always his favorite). Brought Lift back out as an experiment and she had a pop-rock explosion before she decided she could get the tossed toy. So we quit with that.

This is from the evening session inside. She is switching from cheese to the toy so happy about that. I can also see how the moving target does get them focused down and forward. She does say the old fluffy tug is better than the fancy new Wild at Heart WAO fundraiser fluffy thing.

Dean does voices for all the dogs but Lift is one of his funniest ones. And something like that already exists on Youtube with Cricket Chronicles. We watch those whenever we want a laugh.

I ended up subbing a class at Fusion tonight so went early and brought Lift along. She did the rocking horses with 2 wings on a 15ft dark and sligthly curved tunnel and worked for a toy!

Got an alarm set on my phone for tomorrow so hope to see you in MP 2 Live sessions too.

    Remote Reinforcement – 2/12/24

Sneaking in another one before MaxPup 1 ends. Haven’t done this for a few weeks so circled back. She is still good at coming away from the treats (cheese) and then doing a trick. She’s waiting for me to move back to the treats before coming along with me. Not sure if that is an issue at this early stage or not. (Oh- and hope you get a chuckle at the beginning that I didn’t crop out)

Yes- a person went running by the ring during the rocking horses and I was impressed with her noticing but continuing to work. I do worry a bit that we’re behind on working out in public more but I couldn’t find a good in person puppy class for her and then she hit adolescence and I figured it would be super frustrating to try one then. She comes with me to trials and can do pattern games and other things there, but she’s not getting class exposure. She is used to doing tricks with Kaladin (alternating back and forth) but I need to do more where he’s the distraction lying in a bed nearby instead of being a barking distraction in another room.

We’ve done a lot of collar touches/grabs for food (including her dish of raw meat) since I got her, but she’s still not convinced especially if a tunnel or other bit of equipment is out there in front of her.

This was what we did yesterday.

    Serp Exit Countermotion – 2/11/24

Lift and Kaladin got a nice walk on some trials this morning to decompress from working at Fusion yesterday. This was after lunch. She was happy to tug before and after in the training room, but I decided to use cheese for her reward since the stay work and all the serpy stuff is a mindbender for her. We hadn’t done this game since the live session so I was really happy with how she picked it right up again. I wanted to try the advanced game so I didn’t push for more counter motion in the baby version -just did a few for a warmup.

    Restrained Recalls

Now here’s something you don’t usually see -restrained recalls in MN outside in early February without a danger of slipping.

I don’t want to put a tunnel out yet even though we don’t have snow, but I was just thinking about doing the rocking horses with wings and/or barrels outside I just need daylight the recent trend to have more work meetings over lunch is cramping my style.

Tunnel Threadles at Fusion – 2/10/24

Catching up on yesterday’s training at Fusion. The tunnel work has been a lot easier at Fusion even when she doesnt’ want to work for toys – I think because there is so much more space to run after the tunnel and to setup (esp for threadles). And yesterday she actually wanted to work for a toy in our first session!!!!

    Backside Slice at Fusion
After her tunnel threadle session, she got to chill in the car while Kaladin got to play. When she came back out again, she considered her toy choices but not very seriousy so we switched to cheese. I needed to zoom out more but her sit stays were good (even though you can’t see them). And she has enough value for going forward that she took one forwards even with 1 wing. That’s the first time she did that though.

    Rocking Horses Tunnel

We took a play break and then I realized I had forgotten to try the rocking horses earlier. She was still very focused on doing tricks so I squeezed a wing in by the tunnel and we had fun running for cheese. I don’t have Fusion booked again for about a month due to other events so I squeezed in this last session too.

Pretty sure it was a dead bug. Yay for supplemental protein.
When trying the wing for the Backside Slice is it still 1 wing and bump so it’s not an actual jump yet?

    Tunnel Threadle – 2/8/24
This was before dinner and the first time she worked the entire tunnel session for a toy. I think a longer tunnel (Even 10ft) would be helpful for the threadles but then I lose the space to have her run out of it to the toy at the end. I have Fusion rented this Saturday morning so maybe she’ll work for a toy there and I can try the rocking horses there but with throwing a toy.

For the backside slice, should that stay on a barrel and a bump (vs jump wing or wings & a bump) until I get more lateral distance?

    Backside Slice – 2/7/24
This was before dinner. I was tossing a treat to help her release the toy but she happily switched back to the toy for the reward! She is also tugging some in the mornings before breakfast and doing an easy trick for the tug outside of a training session.

I think it’s mostly excitement/pay attention to me barking. She does do an alarm bark at times but less so than the high on life chatty barking.

    Lateral leadout – 2/6/24
I don’t think she has much of a difference with toy play before or after dinner. It seems to be more that there’s a better chance of her working for a toy if it’s not in the morning (whether before or after breakfast). This session was over lunch. I was trading out the toy for a treat to keep her happier with relinquishing the toy and then sitting. This did seem easier for her when I was only lateral and not also moving forward. She tugged like a fiend after this too. I’ve also gotten a short session or two each day of her tugging and doing tricks. I’ve left the morning session as some trick training for treats until I see signs that her pop rocks are less likely to explode. Her new thing is generally being barky about stuff in particular: staring at herself in the oven door, during meal prep, and moving from her crate back to the kitchen after a meal, especially breakfast. So far I’m mostly managing it with interrupting the oven staring and having her recall to me or do a spin around me for walking from her crate to the kitchen. My reasoning is that it’s best to find something that helps stop her from repeating the behavior until she hopefully grows up some and this is less of a thing.

    Minny Pinny – 2/5/24
I wanted something that had been relatively easy for her after the excitement of the MAC UKI trial. (we did pattern games and a few wing wraps for food at the trial plus had 2 play dates but I didn’t have a ton of time while scoring and running a friend’s Beardie in 4 classes plus running Kaladin). She got to run around in the backyard with Kaladin over lunch and then she was gung ho to play with toys after dinner so we used a fur tug for this session in the basement. Unfortunately I didn’t hit record (I think my finger missed as I went by) so you didn’t get to see her first 4 reps (2 each direction with an easier time going to the left). So here’s take two.

    Lateral Leadout – 2/1/24
Worked for a toy before dinner! She wasn’t keen on lining up after releasing the toy so I went to cheese for her to drop the toy and make the sit a happier thing and she even shifted back to the toy after the wrap!

    Barrel Wrap- 2/1/24
Took a short break and then she did some Barrel wrapping for the toy!

    Perch Pivot – 2/2/24
Caffeine inspired brilliance for the win. This is the microwaveable snugglesafe pad. Cover can shift a bit but it’s generally decent traction. At first it was so low she was going over it but then she figured it out and is pivoting more. She also played with a toy after this and this was all in the morning!

MAC UKI trial this weekend and I’m the show manager so staying overnight closer to On the Rjn.

I think caffeine inspired briliance is probably right about the perch. I’ll look around. I have a food dish that is lower and might work but the surface isn’t as nice as the Fleet Farm rubber horse bucket I have here (and they don’t come lower). She spends a lot of time on her hind end while jumping on Kaladin’s head when playing so I didn’t think about the issue of her weight being back and making it harder to move.

And I checked my notes – those threadle slice sessions from Tuesday were the first time I added the verbal come cue and only the 2nd time since the live session that we did a threadle slice at all – so it is very new and a bit confusing for her.

    Threadle Slice – 1/30/24
Did 2 sessions (AM & PM) of threadle slices yesterday. Volume dial works better when your jump wing isn’t in play! She did play tug after each session up a half flight of stairs in the family room, but was a bit sticky about retrieving the toy because she wanted to sit and chew it a bit. Then worked through it and did a few easy tricks for her toy.

And today we re-visted the Perch Pivot

I think I was using a bit of arm on the decel because she was hesitating coming into the bump when I stood at the wing.
So after I said she was meh about balls, she proceeded to play with a racquetball this morning but it was mainly becauase she and Kaladin were passing it back and forth. I’ll have to see what she does with it if she is amped up and not looking like she’ll tug. When the pop rocks are going off in her brain and I toss a tug she barely looks at it but keeps jumping up at me so I might get that.
