ParticipantOrganizers – Front Side Slice – 11/2/22
So it was 75 today but really windy. I am saying “hop it up” and then sit but not sure you can hear that. Anyway no sits before the plank at least.
First rep I did nothing to cue a slice other than my position (sort of) so good dog dor deciding a layer was what I wanted.
Organizers – Front Wrap – 11/2/22
Bit of confusion at first about whether to take the jump or not. Should I be using a cue other than his release word after he sits?
In other news, his massage therapist commented tonight that his core felt stronger and didn’t find any problems spots along his back after the trial. So I think the organizers and zig zags have definitely been helping his core.

ParticipantThanks! He really blew me away with how well he handled Ashley Deacon’s courses. (which were amazingly fun and flowing so I hope that’s what we get at the Open too. Although I did notice he’s judging Gamblers and his Gamblers for us had 2 distance options (of roughly equal difficulty) as opposed to a lower pointed gamble that didn’t involve distance. So Gamblers finals may be interesting). I am leaning towards moving him back to 16in after the Open to see how his speed is now that he’s done more conditioning and jump training with this course. He has much stiffer competition at 16in given the cutoffs letting more BCs in, but I also think he can handle the height well at least for a few years and then we can drop back to Perf 12/12select later. If I don’t like what I see, he did get a 12s masters bye for 2023 last weekend so I have a backup plan!
The Fusion UKI trials (4x/year) are great because we have a very consistent core committee plus usually someone who helps me score. And there are 2 people on the committee who also work at Fusion so they take care of any facilities issues like dealing with a dead iPad on Sat morning when we want to use Agility Gate and being out of toner for the printer at the same time so printing back up gate sheets wasn’t going well either. This is why I like to start with something uncomplicated like Speedstakes!
I think he was too close to the wing on the zig zags. I had him close thinking it would help him on the striding before we realized the moving target got him to kick it into gear. I can set him a bit further away when we pick these up again after the Open. He also does periodically seem to get something in his ear even though I can never find any issues when cleaning them or checking them out (vet finds nothing too). Maybe it’s just all the fluff attracting bugs or lint or something.
We are definitely in bubble wrap phase this week (that and frantic packing phase!) Both of us have chiro & massage appointments and I need to store my a-frame and DW in the shed before the tree trimmers get here on Wed. Plus – after that lovely RDW in Agility on Sunday I decided we weren’t doing another one until we get to Florida.
I think I will try for a short plank session with the front side wraps and/or slices.I’m debating whether it makes sense to bring the plank when I’m not also bringing a jump, don’t really have time to do stuff on the drive down and am not sure I want to be schlepping the plank over to the practice ring. I could bring my doughnut yoga mat small organizer just to do a little bit of organizer work though. Does it make sense to go back to the smaller organizer when we’ve been using the plank? Or I can see if we have space for a ready jump with a 4ft bar.

ParticipantZig Zags – 2 jumps – 10/27/22
This was from last week but I ran out of time to get them uploaded since I was trial sec for the UKI trial over the weekend. (videos on FB, but Kaladin was amaze-balls! 9 for 9 with clean runs including double-clean in Masters Series and earned his IAC & IWAC. All at 12s so I could prep at his faster speed with the lower height. And he almost ran me over on a tunnel exit when I mis-judged his massive acceleration in the 15ft tunnel. Note to self – do not run by the tunnel exit to cue a tight turn unless you send from further away and/or hustle more to get across the exit and out of his way)
Video was 2 different sessions last Thursday trying some running (4in) and less motion with 6in jumps. He had trouble on 1 backside slice at 4in, but when I dialed back the motion a bit for the next try, he nailed it.

ParticipantZig Zags 4 -Backsides – 10/25/22
Forgot to do the head turn warmup (I blame not being completely awake even after the morning walk), but he did some lovely wraps and popped right through the 2 jumps with the incentive of the Pet Tutor. I heard 1 tick (2nd to last rep) and think he ticked the jump standard foot. I am planning on going back to flattening out the 2-jumps on Thursday. With a UKI trial this weekend, I have 1 or 2 more opportunities next week before I hit the road on Sunday morning (Nov 6). Should I keep the bars down at 4in and just keep flattening the 2 jumps?
Organizers – Front Side Slice – 10/25/22
This was from a later session in the day and had a lot more comic relief than his Zig Zag work. Bar is at 6in. After the first rep I watched your video again and realized I was on the wrong side. Then I said sit too soon so he sat before the plankā¦.then too late and he ran right through and over the bar. Is he supposed to be putting his front feet down off the plank on the takeoff side before slicing over the jump? I think I saw that happening in your demo video, but he preferred to go from plank straight to over the jump. I tried moving the plank back a bit but that had mixed results. I was going to go back to the front side wrap with a bit more of my motion on Thursday.

ParticipantOrganizers Front Wrap- 10-22/21
Took it outside since it was in the low 70s today. I felt like he wasn’t really paying attention to the 4in bar below the Cato plank so moved to 6in. After I did the zig zag and was noticing how nicely he focused down and forward on the moving target I tried it on the organizers just for kicks.Zig Zag 2 – 10/22/22
Definitely likes the moving target. I was purposely avoiding releasing on the lean before your last comments.
Should I be trying to flatten the jumps more next?Julie Heller
ParticipantZig Zag 2 – 10/19/22
You called it. I moved the toy more before releasing and he bounced through with no problems, both directions and slightly more closed angles. What a little Stinker!
He had 1 disorganized rep but he was staring off to the side while I was leading out and looked back and then practically fell over his feet between the jumps. Had no issue bouncing the same angle the next time so I’m chalking that one up to being spacey.
Organizer 3 – Wing – 10/19/22
Tried it with a food dish target. Organizing well, but he still has his head up going around the wing. Maybe the best one was the last one when I pushed the dish a bit further away from the wing.
I”m not sure any camera angle is good given all his floof and the tighter space inside (got dark outside!), but he looks good from directly above.
Julie Heller
ParticipantFeeling slow today. Like this?
Julie Heller
ParticipantWhere should I put the food dish for his reward target? I’m having a hard time picturing where it goes to help keep him straighter when approaching the plank/wing but after wrapping the wing.

ParticipantZig Zag 2 & Organizers on Wing – 10/18/22
I swapped out a jump for the ready jump since it’s a wingless and I thought that would work better than propping the bar on the base of the wing standard. Did his easier side and he had some issues. It was about 25deg this morning, but he was nicely warmed up from his walk right before this. I ended up needing to soften the angle to less than where I thought we were at before he went back to a nice bounce.
Organizers 3 – Wing
Did this in the evening and inside since it was dark outside. Other than confusion over how to continue around the wing when I was facing him, I thought this went well so moved him on through the steps and got him wrapping a wing to add speed.

ParticipantMotion Override & Get on the Plank – 10/16/22
Got Dean to video the motion override on our walk today. Balanced with grabbing the frizzer from my hand since too much asking for a sit makes him start to slow down and anticipate.
I think I maybe should have let him settle more into the sit on the first 2reps before having him catch his reward.
Organizers- To the Plank – 10/16/22
I was using meatball pieces for his sitting on the Organizer/plank reward so I’m pretty pleased he kept his head. I was blocking some of the views of his nice & organized sits, but they looked good. For the Zig Zag, I’m wondering if he has a slight preference to me being on his right or if it is the lead change sequence of right to left that he likes. Tomorrow is a rest day from training.
Julie Heller
ParticipantZig Zag 2 – 10/15/22
4in jumps, 4ft bars using 1 wing in the middle to get slightly shorter spacing.
I think he’s a bit more comfortable in the first direct (right then left), but it’s pretty close. He did sneak an extra stride on his first left to right, but then sorted it out on the 2nd rep to the dish and drove more with the moving targetI didn’t get video, but I did some motion override in the back yard during our Birthday Frizzer place session. He organizes pretty quickly into a sit when I am in a slow jog and also a fast walk with me swinging the frizzer around a bit.

ParticipantI did make an edit to the earlier post so maybe that changes how you see it from your end? I’ll just throw everything into 1 post this time.
Moving Target – 10/13/22
No breaks from the sit this time and with a bit of toy movement the “get it” was clear. I switched to Break when I added the 8in jump. I did cut out 2 reps where I and him sitting off camera (whoops!) In one he leaned a bit and then straightened up without shifting his feet so I threw the toy back for him to catch.Foundation – Lead with the Head – 10/11/22
Kaladin picked this up quickly in Max Pup and he uses his head well when turning on course so we did a quick refresher yesterday morning.Get Organized- 10/13/22
Tossing food really ramps him up. I could have used more “sit” cues to help him when his feet were falling off the platform, but he figured out how to fix it.And I had trouble with the camera angle but he does sit tighter (under all the fur) when on the doughnut puzzle platform than on the flat

ParticipantThanks for the feedback on the zig zag. Did you see the post right before it where I uncovered some interesting stuff in the moving target?

ParticipantZig Zag 1 & 2 – 10/12/22
On the Flat: Started about 6ft apart and moved them down to 4ft.
Zig Zag 2 –
He did well with the zig zag from Max Pup but we haven’t done it much in the last few months (maybe at all?)
4in high. 4ft bars. Decided the overlapping wings made the distance a bit too far for him so rested the 2nd bar in the middle of the first jump’s wing. Played around a bit with it in the middle of the wing vs slightly closer.
Food dish target worked well to keep him looking down and forward.

ParticipantThat was odd -I remember only seeing 2 games in Foundations when I first went to look at it last night and now there are all of them! Good point on the jump distraction training. He has not had issues with bars at home or at trials. I’ll put that on the backburner for now.
Note new carpeted family room! Soon to be replaced by an actual indoor training space in the basement once I pick up the Agility Great Mats I ordered – Luckily they are made about 75min away in WI since they only ship via freight and the shipping was going to be more expensive than the cost of the 15 mats I needed.
Org 1 – Get Organized – 10/12/22
Well I had tossed my duct taped phone book before we moved, but my doughnut puzzle box with a yoga mat & duct tape worked well. His sit on the flat is not bad, especially right as he sits. Sometimes his hind feet start sliding a bit after he sits for a while. But I can see how he neatened it up with the organizer prop
Moving Target – 10/12/22
Did this one after work and it surprised me a bit. 1) apparently some confusion since get it was trained as me tossing the toy and grab it was for when it was in my hand. Dangling on the ground next to me, esp when still, confused him after the first rep unless I used Break too
2) Didn’t expect him to brake his sit when I first let the toy dangle down to the ground.
No problems with him focusing on the octopus toy!-
