Way late on the turn cue after the 2nd barrel so we redid that part.
Each dog gets to run 1 USDAA Gamblers run tomorrow before our hike so I’ll look for an opportunity to do more of a send &go on a pinwheel and to leave sooner on a wrap.

It was a pleaant 60deg early this morning so we squeezed this in before driving up north. I was able to fit most of the Jumping course except for jump 1 which would have been on my deck. I had to shorten some distances. The fox Barrel was my 2nd tunnel and I used a standard for #2/12. My first choice for handling the opening would have been to run into a blind on Take off of 2 so we sort of did tha. The barrel was tricky with the timing. I probably could have sent from further away.

Really short session since it was still in the upper 80s.
Yup – she’s running for the remnants of the Nemo ball which she she likes to try to kill when she catches it.
I often run from the start with her, but I’ll keep experimenting with releasing with a directional/obstacle cue instead of “break”.Sequence 3 –
So I think she actually released on my movement and not “go tunnel” so I”ll need to be careful about that. She had a tighter turn in the pinwheel here.Sequence 4 – first run
Almost lost her behind me when I flicked my eyes away to make sure I wasn’t going to collide with the tree. (I ran Min first so I had that part smoother for Kaladin).take 2 – redid it to iron out the 180 around the tree. Then on a whim I cued a left out of the tunnel to end and the little stinker did it beautifully! She’s determined to prove me wrong after my comments on how she doesn’t like to turn out of tunnels. Maybe I just need to cue way earlier than I think I need to.
We’re going to be up north Fri-Mon for a bit of USDAA and some hiking so this will probably be it until next week. (I might see about setting up half of a the jumpers course, but I think the weather isn’t going to cooperate)

He loves his Buena Onda frizzers and any other soft/fluffy toy. I’m really happy with his tug drive and that it is the same in public as at home. (First time I’ve managed that with a food hound Sheltie!)
In the first sequence yesterday I was zoned out when I was leading out and trying to decide when I wanted to release him and he decided to release himself. Goof!Sequence 3 – went a bit deeper into the tunnel so that I could move more through the pinwheel. Then he got the drive to the tunnel as I was starting to turn to the last jump!
Sequence 4 –
The oak tree was in an awkward spot for my path but we made it work. He’s looking at me over jump #3, but I was silent. I have been able to inadvertently pull him off jumps sometimes when I use a directional cue too early or when he doesn’t need it so I waited a bit for the dig-dig (wrap left) so that he wouldn’t collect too soon.

Jumping her at 6in because….well – why not?
Sequence 1 – As expected – no issues with driving straight out of the tunnelSequence 2 – Ran around the 2nd jump which is not like her but I think I just lost connection for a bit and now that she’s used to more of it, she doesn’t like less. However she did a lovely turn thus proving that at least at home when I get the directional out soon enough, she will dig in and turn out of a tunnel
Sequence 3 – Better connection so got jump #2. Stayed in extension but was a bit wide on start of pinwheel since I was praising her for her right turn out of the tunnel instead of cueing what was next.

As you can see, we don’t have our fence in yet. I have a partial snow fence barrier along the back to help discourage the neighboring Doberman from visiting. But – I can fit the sequence in my yard!!! I used a 10ft tunnel to save some space and I had to pull the first jump back a bit so that the dogs weren’t taking off with a big dip in their path (it’s under the jump bar instead). We’re going to have a lot of extra dirt once the fence posts go in so I’ll be filling holes in then.Jumping Kaladin at 12in so that he gets a break from 16. I trimmed out some extra frizzer play, but the whole video was 3.3 min even with that and all reps that we did are included.
Sequence 1 – In my mind I was moving to the right with my lower body earlier before the tunnel, but apparently not – however he knew where he was going
Sequence 2 – Was so excited about his tight right turn out of the tunnel that I forgot my “go” for the last 2 jumps.
Sequence 3 – Turned my entire body off the 2nd tunnel too soon so he obligingly came with me. Redid that section without turning early and voila! no problem.
Decided I should stop before we all decided it was too hot (although only low 80s in mid-afternoon – today is the cool day this week) and get your feedback before I do sequence 4

He was so brilliant! Calmly waited for his turn while dogs were playing and warming up around him, did the practice jump and was focused in all 3 runs. We did Agility and Jumping NFC. He probably could have run Jumping for real but I figured more rewards for weaves in public and tunnel threadles were a good thing. Plus he’s going to be in Novice until we polish up our contacts so no rush getting the non Agility Q.
I added an unnecessary right cue in SS and turned so he obligingly pulled off the jump to come with me. I love how he opened up on the last line.Nov Ag NFC – https://youtu.be/MgqfPSY2Osw

Happy Thanksgiving! We’re hiking, cooking and eating tomorrow and then Kaladin gets to go to a UKI trial on Friday afternoon while Min stays home and naps in Dean’s lap.
Tunnel closer at 6ft. The Switch and opposite arm do seem to be getting him to flip away. I should be using the tunnel cue after the switch right?
He hasn’t taken his toy into a tunnel in a very long time and he did it here after the last rep.Julie Heller
ParticipantKaladin – Weaves Switch – 11/20/21
We had done another session of the turn aways with jumps (including with balancing to send straight to a tunnel) so I decided to try the weave switch today.
Realized that with off side weaves he should have been between me and the weaves as if exiting them, but he figured it out.I don’t envy the WAO selection committee. They have a lot of dogs to sort though. I feel like they are looking for a faster dog than Min even if that dog is less consistent, but it was really fun to try out again and I’m really happy with how we ran. She’s turning 8 next week so we’ll just do a fun US Open at 8in without the added excitement of WAO Tryouts next year.

ParticipantIt’s so cool that the skills are really coming together for Kaladin so the focus is on getting his DW and A frame ready for NFC/FEO and more ring experience. His a frame looks good at 5ft, OK at 5ft 3in and not quite there at 5ft 6in. The DW is going to be ready for at least an NFC run soon.
He’s got a solo Friday afternoon UKI trial the day after Thanksgiving. (Min has a 1 month trialing break after the Open and at least a few weeks off class as Kaladin will sub in for her).
We also have a Dec 18-19 UKI where Roger Ly is judging and I am making my debut as a trial sec..oh and maybe running a friend’s young Beardie if her recently healed Achilles isn’t up to running Roger’s courses….so will he a busy weekend. (But no course builds at 5:15AM!)Then we have some usdaa and uki over the winter.
I don’t know if he will go to FL next year. I am hoping to do the Canadian Open at the end of Aug so maybe he will do some stuff there since I will be driving.
Some of this depends on WAO. I feel like Min is in alternate territory again but who knows on that!

ParticipantKaladin – Opposite Arm – 11/18/21
You’re right! He nailed the tunnel threadles with me moving towards the tunnel.
My wing for the get out was really close to the tunnel due to running into the fence so that didn’t go so well the first time.Julie Heller
ParticipantKaladin – Switch on Jump- 11/17/21
Experiemented with opposite arm and using both arms. I think I’m too flingy with the opposite arm but using both arms doesn’t feel comfortable to me. I also worry that it will start to look a bit like a threadle wrap as my inside arm sometimes tends to go with the outside on that. I was using left/right here because I didn;t feel like this skill was going to be a a very collected wrap turn. Why do you use a separate switch cue for the flip away out of the weaves instead of a left/right?
And what should I use if this is a DW/Frame flip away to tunnel? I’ve tried a L/R followed by tunnel, a checkcheck/digdig tunnel for a collected turn away, and a flip/turn tunnel with Min and am not sold on any of them. Flip/Turn has also turned into a very solid 360 left flip and right flip (turn) for Kaladin with doing the flips while moving so I don’t want him to spin in a 360 turn at the base of the DW!

Did these before the Open but didn’t get around to posting before I left and we were all too busy at the Open to focus on anything else.Kaladin – https://youtu.be/xuIqdjr-cU0

I don’t remember specifically training an off arm to turn away with Min but I do use it on occasion (often in Gambles). I did have to use one after the weaves in Masters Finals Jumping on Sat and she read it beautifully to get the next jump. A bit too strong as she went wide on the turn to the last jump but it saved our butts since I couldn’t get to the other side of the weaves. Including that run here since I learned my lesson in Biathlon Jumping and was a double BC fiend in here. Plus I am very proud of the throw back blind thingee I did in the middle for that tricky top line. 15 was bi directional so I ran it as a backside wrap instead of another threadle.

ParticipantEverytime I ran around a tunnel or dogwalk or jump I was muttering about obstacle obstructions LOL! But Min nailed all of them thanks to this course.

Oh that was totally it! I had to hold onto my pant leg to keep my inside arm from swinging back too far so then I forgot to let it follow the head forward as they went past. I think Min in particular would have benefitted from that.
Plus when I am running on course I don’t have the inside arm back as much. It was just showing up in training when I slowed things downKaladin – https://youtu.be/9kVQN4jW3f0
