    Independent Backsides – Kaladin & Min – 11/5/21
Reek! Glad your CO Monitor was working! And how is it warmer here than where you are? We’re getting up to 60 today.

This was from last night but I didn’t get it posted before we headed out for Dean’s birthday dinner and movie/orchestra.

Kaladin did much better switching up the directions so I added the angled bar for both of them

Min was in a tugging fiend mood until suddenly she decided she was done tugging so we went to cheese. I used to worry about her not tugging all the time but she really likes food better and we can make that work too.

Yes – left is the softer turn and dig dig is left wrap. I was getting sloppy with my verbal and arm cues.

Ugh! CO alarms. Why do they always have issues at 2am?

    Threadle Setup – Kaladin & Min – 11/5/21
Did the threadles going to the left this time.

Kaladin- he was rocking the threadles when I got the cue out in time. As I was swapping to Min, I realized I had forgotten to balance the threadles so I brought Kaladin out for a 2nd session after Min and left the jumps at 8in. Then I forgot and reverted to the inside arm and was late so he did the 180. Like magic when I realized it and used the off arm he threadled again. What a Dude!
So this makes me wonder if I am going to be able to keep the different threadle arms straight between the 2 dogs and whether I should experiment with a lower off arm with Min after the Open.

Min – I turned off jump 2 too quickly in 1 rep and pulled her inside it before the threadle but she was rocking the other ones and she was even in the mood to really tug on the fleecy octopus tug that is bigger than she is.

    Threadle Setup – Min & Kaladin – 11/3/21
This was done at 8AM when the sun was barely up.
Min – I have a hard time running in a straight line and not moving away from the jump to pull her in. When I started in a sit stay with 2 jumps, I had a hard time seeing if she was collecting so then my threadle (come) cue was late. And this reinforces my decision to run as many Open Threadles as possible with the double blind.

Kaladin – this was the first session of using the off arm for a more threadle slice and not a leadout threadle. I had a hard time getting the Come out soon enough.

    Independent Backsides – Min & Kaladin – 11/3/21
Did the 2 wings in position 1 and varied my walking/running line.

Discovered that while I may start moving to the exit wing as Min is traveling to the back of the entry wing, I must not be very far across the bar approaching the jump as she kept trying to come into the front and then popped back out to the back. Either that are she is confused about the wing since I didnt’ teach her backsides on a wing.
    Min –

Kaladin did really well turning to the left and then struggled some going to the right. I don’t think I was moving differently and previously I had thought he was more of a righty so not sure what was going on there. And Nemo was considered dead and boring if I dropped him on the landing side so I started throwing him down the line a bit more. However he was pretty jazzed about wrapping the wings so that was cool. (the cooler weather and the squirrel he chased out of the yard before we started may have contributed)

    Backwards Start – Min & Kaladin – 11/2/21
We’re going to pass on the backwards send for now with Min since we haven’t done that before on backwards starts. I haven’t marked the wrap before but it’s similar to what I would normally do and she picked it up well. I think I even got a bit more counter motion with it than I normally do. In the middle, she swung her butt out and then confused my right arm marking the wing with my body cue to say her prayers. LOL. We’re using cheese for her reward since it was after her walk but before breakfast and she was just dying!

Kaladin-Tried both methods with him. Not sure we have a favorite. I think he accelerated to the jump a bit faster when I was facing the jump but may have wrapped and accelerated out of the turn a bit faster on the throwback. I might use the mark method if it’s a wider turn and the backwards send/throwback if I need him to wrap close and drive out at more of an angle

Looking at the rest of the games, I think I will do a bit of the independent backsides and the threadle success with Min before the open. I did some of the obstructed path work in the summer camp. The switch aways look a bit more involved and she has an OK switch away from Gamblers practice already.

    Hi Tracy,

It might be my old decrepit laptop, but the Opposite Arm video has stretches of muted sound and then gets out of sync between what you’re saying and what you are demo-ing.

    Min- Threadle Trends/Bypass – 11/1/21
Did a short session with Min to remind her of our 2 options for handling this situation at the Open. Also confirmed the Bypass. Had to curve the tunnel to get it to fit.

On to week 3….just in time for week 4 to come out!

    Backside Openings – Min & Kaladin – 10/31/21
Tested Min on sending to the tunnel and then doing the backside with a lala slice and running into a BC. (What exactly is a German turn by the way? Am I doing one without realizing it?)

Kaladin rocked the threadle and FFC openings even when I forgot to use my “come” threadle slice cue (duh!). Happy to report he passed the “raised hand cue” test and got to catch the frizzer on the start line twice.

    Kaladin – 11/1/21
Tested being able to take the tunnel after the backside and not. Not quite sure why I got the front of jump 2 at 1:20. (I was shifted over a bit laterally so maybe that?)

Distance Skills to Jump – Kaladin – 10/30/21
Friend’s kid tested neg for covid so got to play in the larger yard yesterday.
Kaladin thought 2 jumps out of the tunnel was a bit far (and my hitting the jump standard with Nemo didn’t help). However he did great with turning left & right out of the tunnel.

    Kaladin & Min – Layering – 10/30/21
This was from Saturday but the tree shadow is rather Halloween-esque.

I went inside the jumps with Min just to make sure it was clear that she should drive to the tunnel, which she did…even though she was more in a food mood than a chase Nemo mood.

    Kaladin – Threadle Trends – 10/30/21
Decided I’m going to go with the offside arm for threadle slice and the 2 hands lower for threadle wrap. Pretty happy with how he did yesterday on the threadles and the bypass. I ran out of time at my friend’s yard to try this with Min with a backside slice/hustle and to test the bypass. I may set up a modified version of it at home later to test the bypass.

    Backside Openings – Kaladin – 10/29/21
Tried these yesterday with Kaladin and was really impressed with what he remembered from Max Pup in the winter and how quickly he picked up the threadle handling. The 2nd to last rep I realized I was stepping into the #2 jump a bit and that he probably didn’t need it so the last rep I was trying not to step into it and he got it. I think I will switch to the off arm for the threadle slice for him. I cropped it out but I also did some work tossing the ball back to him at the start as he was excited enough to actually break his start when I was getting into position and raising my hand.

Decided that I may run Min on this with our familiar backside slice to BC handling just as a warm up for the Open, but not going to do anything with the FFC or threadle handling before the Open.

    Jump – Tunnel Discrimination – Min & Kaladin – 10/28/21
Got Kaladin revved up and barking and did mostly tunnels. Whee! Threw in a jump and then went back to tunnels

Min had trouble getting the jump. Not sure if I angled too much from the last session? She did a bit better when I moved the jump a bit further from the tunnel. And as I watch the video, I am wondering if I should have been rewarding from my hand for the backside slices. She was clearly confused about the slice and then head out to the PT.

    Kaladin & Min – Layering – 10/27/21
2 more from yesterday. You can see the MaxPup foundations with Kaladin as he confidently drives out to the tunnel (apparently when a jump isn’t right by it, he’s pretty happy about them)
Min had questions. I do occasionally layer jumps when sending to a tunnel with her but only in situations where I think there is no question so likely won’t be asking for this at the Open.
