ParticipantHi Tracy,
It might be my old decrepit laptop, but the Opposite Arm video has stretches of muted sound and then gets out of sync between what you’re saying and what you are demo-ing.

ParticipantMin- Threadle Trends/Bypass – 11/1/21
Did a short session with Min to remind her of our 2 options for handling this situation at the Open. Also confirmed the Bypass. Had to curve the tunnel to get it to fit.
On to week 3….just in time for week 4 to come out!

ParticipantBackside Openings – Min & Kaladin – 10/31/21
Tested Min on sending to the tunnel and then doing the backside with a lala slice and running into a BC. (What exactly is a German turn by the way? Am I doing one without realizing it?)Kaladin rocked the threadle and FFC openings even when I forgot to use my “come” threadle slice cue (duh!). Happy to report he passed the “raised hand cue” test and got to catch the frizzer on the start line twice.

Kaladin – 11/1/21
Tested being able to take the tunnel after the backside and not. Not quite sure why I got the front of jump 2 at 1:20. (I was shifted over a bit laterally so maybe that?)Julie Heller
ParticipantDistance Skills to Jump – Kaladin – 10/30/21
Friend’s kid tested neg for covid so got to play in the larger yard yesterday.
Kaladin thought 2 jumps out of the tunnel was a bit far (and my hitting the jump standard with Nemo didn’t help). However he did great with turning left & right out of the tunnel.Julie Heller
ParticipantKaladin & Min – Layering – 10/30/21
This was from Saturday but the tree shadow is rather Halloween-esque.I went inside the jumps with Min just to make sure it was clear that she should drive to the tunnel, which she did…even though she was more in a food mood than a chase Nemo mood.

ParticipantKaladin – Threadle Trends – 10/30/21
Decided I’m going to go with the offside arm for threadle slice and the 2 hands lower for threadle wrap. Pretty happy with how he did yesterday on the threadles and the bypass. I ran out of time at my friend’s yard to try this with Min with a backside slice/hustle and to test the bypass. I may set up a modified version of it at home later to test the bypass.Julie Heller
ParticipantBackside Openings – Kaladin – 10/29/21
Tried these yesterday with Kaladin and was really impressed with what he remembered from Max Pup in the winter and how quickly he picked up the threadle handling. The 2nd to last rep I realized I was stepping into the #2 jump a bit and that he probably didn’t need it so the last rep I was trying not to step into it and he got it. I think I will switch to the off arm for the threadle slice for him. I cropped it out but I also did some work tossing the ball back to him at the start as he was excited enough to actually break his start when I was getting into position and raising my hand.Decided that I may run Min on this with our familiar backside slice to BC handling just as a warm up for the Open, but not going to do anything with the FFC or threadle handling before the Open.

ParticipantJump – Tunnel Discrimination – Min & Kaladin – 10/28/21
Got Kaladin revved up and barking and did mostly tunnels. Whee! Threw in a jump and then went back to tunnels
Min had trouble getting the jump. Not sure if I angled too much from the last session? She did a bit better when I moved the jump a bit further from the tunnel. And as I watch the video, I am wondering if I should have been rewarding from my hand for the backside slices. She was clearly confused about the slice and then head out to the PT.

2 more from yesterday. You can see the MaxPup foundations with Kaladin as he confidently drives out to the tunnel (apparently when a jump isn’t right by it, he’s pretty happy about them)
Min had questions. I do occasionally layer jumps when sending to a tunnel with her but only in situations where I think there is no question so likely won’t be asking for this at the Open.Kaladin – https://youtu.be/YOYE1IW9G9Q

Gotta love tree trimming going on 2 houses down before 8AM!Kaladin – started angling the jump. The low hanging mulberry bushes from the neighbor’s yard sabotaged one of my throws.
Min likes the PT in closer – she was way more confident here even with the jump closer to the tunnel so we started to angle the jump a bit at the end.

ParticipantThanks! Much clearer.
While we may see the backside/threadle opening at the Open, I typically handle those running into them as a lala (backside slice then BC) anyway. And I often do the double BC for a threadle with Min too.
I will need to think a bit about Kaladin’s threadle handling. While I trained inside side arm as slice and offside as wrap, it’s not very solid at all and I do feel like the inside arm down for a slice is a bit too subtle for him. I also don’t see myself doing an inside arm for the FFC or the leadout threadle handling at all. (I do see myself using that kind of leadout with him though since his stride just seems to keep getting bigger!)Tari was “trained” with the offside arm for threadle slice, but I switched to inside arm/dip in H360 with Min since it was supposed to help you run forward faster (not twisted around). However I don’t really trust it so I’m not running fast through threadles and I can run while twisted around…. Fun stuff!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Made it back from TN last night and sort of managed to focus on work today. Kaladin got to sub in for Min in her international skills class so she could take a break. He rocked all the fancy skills in the course (minus the DW and a-frame), did 2 sets of 12 weave poles, and decided the new Galican saloon-style tire was no big deal.
Questions on the week 2 Backside trends/course openings. So I should use my “come” threadle slice cue when doing the threadle handling for the opening? But the forced FC handling “cue” is just releasing him over the first jump?
I’ve been using the off arm for my threadle wrap and the inside arm for my threadle slice. In this opening sequence threadle handling, it looks like the off arm would have more emphasis and be clearer, but will that be confusing when I don’t normally use the off arm for a threadle slice?

ParticipantThe Biathlon Standard course from Cynosports was a blast. Happy to report we got the weave entry (dog on left down the DW and relying on pointing my feet to the 2nd pole and my weave cue) and we layered the DW for the wall jump to the tunnel. (Easy peasy after 2 of Tracy’s seminars). And then I got a bit mixed up and she ran right across my feet into the tunnel instead of taking the a frame at the end. It was still my favorite course of the event.

So the pants may be a bit loud, but they are fleece-lined and have pockets. (It was 42deg this morning). And they were on clearance at Teddy the Dog.Kaladin was doing well so we added in some jump wraps.
Min had difficulty continuing onto the PT so I moved it a bit closer. She also thought I wanted a backside slice on one of the jumps.

Sadly the plan to do this in a bigger yard ran afoul of my Friend’s 11yr old kid finding out her friend had Covid. So we squashed it into our yard.
Kaladin did great sending out and turning left. Min was convinced she should just run to the PT no matter what I said.Kaladin
