ParticipantTunnel Theadles & Tandems – 1/23/21
So I’m really bummed but the audio got out of sync with the video. I thought it was the Movavi Clips that I use to edit, but then realized it was the original video. So you may want to watch it muted since it’s kinda distracting. And I was so pleased with how I was getting the wrap and here-here threadle cue out before he got to the wing! Well -he always took the correct end of the tunnel so there’s my proof. When I did the blind after the tandem 360 he broke stride and trotted. I’m not sure if I was late and got in his way?

ParticipantShaping Target – 1/21/21
It’s been an unusually mild winter for MN. We got a bunch of snow in October and then it melted and I wad able to train in my yard until mid December. Now it’s a snowy frozen mess and it’s supposed to drop from 30 today to 0 tomorrow morning. This is the highlights from 3 separate sessions. I was experimenting with my setup.
Started out with 1x2ft yoga mat but I think it’s going to move around too much given our hardwood floors.
Then went to 2 yoga mat padded squares with the mat on top. Didn’t move as just the mat but not sure I like that it’s more than 1 piece.
Then dug out my mats from the basement and tried that. They can shift on the floor but the mat seems to stay put better. So in general I like how he is usually thinking about all his feet. The one thing I did get in each session was him stalling out and lying down/sitting focused on me. Seemed to happen when I started adding more distance. Waiting him out took a while (I left the longest one out in the interest of time). Finally I decided to move a bit closer and that seemed to unstick him.
Does the color of the mat matter? Or just a color that can be distinguished from the floor?

ParticipantCrate – Mat Discrimination- 1/21/21
The crate is a stronger cue but he’s got an OK “mat” cue which means any kind of bed or mat (in fact in an earlier session I had to remove the beds to my right as he flipped around to one of those the first time I said mat. I gave him a cookie and then moved the beds.) I did have to put him on the side closest to the mat sometimes whereas he will cross over to the crate.I am working on “platz” for his new cato board so plan to do mat vs platz soon.

I keep feeling like I’m closer to the jumps than I look when I watch the video, especially when he’s entering the serp from a tunnel.Julie Heller
ParticipantLeadouts – 1/16/21
Did these at 8in since he seemed to have an easy time of it at 6in the last time.Julie Heller

Great suggestion on using the Pet Tutor for the tunnel – Now he’s more balanced about picking the wrong obstacle!
And yes – I did do some Susan Garrett Crate Games when he was younger. Plus he regularly gets sent to his crate for meals so lots of value for the crate.

ParticipantWinging It – Turnaways – 1/16/21
I felt like it was easier to get him to threadle in to me on these. I think I should probably be closer to the wing on the lap turns (esp to the right). I added a flip (left)/turn (right) turning cue. I haven’t done anything with a threadle/flip back on your path cue. It will probably be In-In-In. (I picked that for Min and then realized it rhymed with her name which I tend to use on these for her anyway)Julie Heller
ParticipantTeeter – Mountain Climber – 1/15/21
Posting again since this one went missing from last night.
Got him sending ahead of me! In true Kaladin fashion, it’s a deliberate trot and not a run but I think he is looking a lot more confident heading up there on his own. And we did his very first tiny drop which I don’t thing he noticed so mission accomplished.
Do I stick with the tiny drop for a few more sessions before trying either a slightly bigger drop or removing the towel from the chair? (Not both at once)I’m also working on advancing the bang game and focusing on his head position (esp before the release) and varying my position and movement

ParticipantTeeter Bang It – 1/13/21
Teeter is now about 5in off the ground. Except for issues getting on from my left side (the more cramped side), he is pretty good about holding his position as I keep moving or when a ball is on the ground. However he is looking at the ball and not down at the target once he has gotten himself in to 2o2o. Move the distraction further out? How important is it for him to focus down at the target? Can he flick his eyes up to the ball if he then looks back at the target?
This was 2 sessions and a bit longer because I left in the bit when he was being really creative in working out what to do. I probably should have rewarded the bit where he did get a 1o2o position with the outside hind hanging in space.Julie Heller
ParticipantAngled Teeter Entries – 1/10-11/21
2 sessions since I had to flip the teeter around to get the other direction. That clattering sound in the first session was the other long jump board falling over.

ParticipantTeeter – Bang It – 1/11/21
Teeter is a bit further off the ground. It’s hard for me to get more arousal when the space is cramped. I did flip the teeter around to do the other direction of the angled entry right before this. He’s been a bit sticky about releasing on a verbal cue when on my left, esp if I am slightly behind the end of the board.Julie Heller
ParticipantMat To & Thru – 1/10/21
We did one sessio during the week on the driveway using the 2 slightly raised mats next to each other like this.
Should I be rewarding if 1 hind foot misses or hits the edge of the mat?Julie Heller
ParticipantSerpentines – 1/10/21
Jumps at 6in. Next time I’ll try to actually be closer to the jumps. The pressure may start popping him back out to the backsides if I’m not ahead of him.
The one rep where he ran by has a really late arm back cue but some of the ones where he did serp weren’t much better. I also don’t think I’ve got my upper body rotated in much but he was still getting the serpsIn other news, his neck did need adjusting last Wednesday. When he turned his head to the right, the left side was stuck and didn’t make a corresponding move out so it was harder for him to tutn turn right.

Apparently the crate has more value when the handler is stationary. I think he was also a bit tired. This was the last game we played today.Julie Heller
ParticipantLeadouts – 1/9/21
I really like the BC leadout at 1min. I think I timed this one better than the earlier one to the left. On this one I can see him taking the inside corner of the 2nd jump. -
