Set Point at 12in & Bounce Grid with Tunnel – 11/28/20
I set his 6in grid at a 6ft distance since he’s got the tunnel or the barrel on either side. I was so excited at his tandem turn around the barrel!
Then I went back to the 12in set point to make sure he still looked balanced over that after the excitement of the tunnel.

You recommended doing the progressive grid with different intervals. First 9 and 12 ft. Would that be a 5ft-9ft-12ft spacing? I think he’s going to short stride the 9ft one. Then how does the 15ft come in? (assuming that should be an extended stride) – 5ft-9ft-15ft? (hope it’s not 5-12-15 or I’m going to start running out of yard)

    Zig Zag – 11/23/20
Worked on this a bit in the last month but mostly I just gave it a rest. He is single striding nicely at the 4in height. Had to sort things out when I tried 6in but the 2nd rep at 6 looked pretty good.

Led out to the Pet Tutor and triggered it sooner for the first 4 reps and then added some movement on his last rep and he didn’t seem affected by it. He’s launching up more to clear the last jump in the 8ft bounce but he is confidently going for the bounce

    Backside Proofing- 11/19/20
This was from Thursday. I Started tossing the toy sooner for the backside serps and then he decided the tug toy landing on the ground wasn’t too exciting and stopped to stare at it

Then I took a break to play with Min and ended up mixing the serp proofing and the wrap proofing in to a new game. So had to try that with Kaladin too. I like how the tunnel adds to his speed going up the line to the backside.

For a left wrap cue: check-check is my wrap right. Min sort of has a diga-diga for a 180 turn but I don’t use it much and am not sure I want to bother training it for Kaladin. I can’t remember being in a situation when I needed it to distinguish between 180 and a softer left or right. If I don’t need a diga I could make dig dig the left wrap. Or I might go with Kiri-kiri (left in Malay. Zuo in Mandarin is a 3rd tone which is drawn out and it would bother me that I am getting the tone wrong when saying it quickly. I haven’t retained much Mandarin since we left Singapore when I was 8 but I can still hear the tones and it bothers me if those are qrong). I’m off to go video to make sure check check, kiri kiri and circle circle are different enough

    Lateral Leadouts – 11/20/20
2 sessions separated by my lunch.
Had 2 failures at first. Not sure I needed the directional cue and maybe it confused him? Maybe my arm was too far up in the air? (Not really sure why it was floating around up there) So I went to the landing side of the jump which was clearer for him and then he remembered this one and started doing some lovely serps.

2nd session I decided to test him and include the tunnel and he was brilliant.

    Starfish – 11/18/20
The tandem turns are feeling better. I even tried some lap turns yesterday, but don’t have that video edited. I tried running him by a tunnel opening with him on the outside and he aced that. When I went from wing to wing with him between me and the tunnel he surprised me by flicking away and in to the tunnel. I had started to look forward but I thought if anything he’d duck behind me the other way because of that. Guess the tunnel has lots of value!

And I decided wrap-wrap (for a left wrap) is too close to right-right so I’m in search of another word or sound to use. Considering back-back.

    Progressive grid & set point – 11/18/20
Tried a progressive grid “under the lights” since it was getting dark quickly at 5pm.
Did 4-5-6ft distances with locked 6in bars. He snuck in a stride in the 7ft distance when I was moving, but bounced it pretty easily when I led out to the Pet Tutor.

We also did 3 set-points at 12in since we hadn’t done those in a while.
It is cool to see him watching me lead out and then shift his gaze to the jumps.

Will the pups work more in the mini seminar than they did for a live Zoom session? J

    Hi Tracy,

Will the live seminars be an extended version of the games offered online? Or will they be separate things that aren’t also covered online for the working online spots?

    Backside Proofing – 11/17/20
Makes sense! Point the outside shoulder to the outer wing which moves the shoulder forward, but don’t confuse him with the inside hand coming back like it’s a serp. (Good thing he’s such a good sport) Tried this back on the 10th before the snow and he did better. Let it sit for more latent learning and it’s even better!

In other news, I’m in search of a different verbal cue for my left wrap. While watching some of Min’s US Open videos, I realized that lalala and el-el-el sound kinda similar. Not as bad as gauche-gauche and go-go…but probably too close. I’m trying out wrap-wrap. My right wrap is check-check. Let me know if you have any different sounds that you’d suggest.

    Accordian Grid – 11/16/20
Chalk up another one for latent learning. Didn’t do any grids for a week due to snow. Did this one at 5ft-8ft-11ft and he bounced the 8ft distance. He had to reach and is kicking up over the bar but he did the bounce and I thought #4 looked more comfortable for him than #2.

I’m familiar with Susan’s progressive grid so I’ll work that one in for the future. So Susan often has 5 jumps in her grids necessitating 4 bounces. Are we working with 3 jumps mainly because these are younger dogs or because the 5 is just plain excessive?

    Lateral Leadouts- 11/10/20
This was from the morning before the snow hit. Luckily only a few inches but the darn stuff is still there and I haven’t had time to shovel it. Hoping the warmer temps next week clear it up.
I moved the jumps further apart in the middle -up to about 10ft apart. It’s not shown on here, but he held his sit stay at the beginning while a squirrel ran by along the fence! I did go back to reward it and then threw in some catches on the start line throughout the session.

    Rocking Horse Turn Aways -11/9/20
Snuck in 1 more session this morning before the rain started and the temps started dropping (1-3in of snow forecast for tomorrow and it was 74 on Sunday! Gotta love MN weather variability)
Moved the wings further apart and he started going faster and sending better! I also like how he is accelerating out of the lap and tandem turns.

    Starfish – 11/8/20
2 sessions – First one was early morning on Sunday when it was still in the low 60s. 2nd session over lunch when it was in the low 70s. Impressed that he was happy to work for a tug toy (instead of a ball) for both of them.
In the 2nd session, the double-blind from the top of the starfish to the tunnel just kinda happened and he read it really well. We did the tunnel threadle next time.

    Accordian Grid – 11/8/20
Kaladin give 4 paws up for his new Pet Tutor although he hasn’t quite resigned himself to the fact that standing by it and staring at it doesn’t trigger the treat. I actually think he had better drive to it than food in a dish. Is that because it’s more fun when your treat rolls out at your feet?
Anyway. We did this at 5-8-11ft and a 6ft locked bar. His 5ft bounces still look nice and he compressed back down to them well. (Actually he looked more even in the 5th rep than the first when he was reaching a bit) I got a short 1 stride at 8ft even when I jazzed him up more for the 4th rep. The 11ft 1 stride looked comfortable. I think for the next time I might do 5-7-11 or 4.5-7-11.
The first rep of 5ft bounces he wasn’t powering through as much, but I know he can since he is having to compress back down to control the 5ft bounces when I did the mini sequence. I was wondering if I should do 5.5ft or 6ft in that context since I think we need to work more on extension than collection at this point.
