    Progressive grid & set point – 11/18/20
Tried a progressive grid “under the lights” since it was getting dark quickly at 5pm.
Did 4-5-6ft distances with locked 6in bars. He snuck in a stride in the 7ft distance when I was moving, but bounced it pretty easily when I led out to the Pet Tutor.

We also did 3 set-points at 12in since we hadn’t done those in a while.
It is cool to see him watching me lead out and then shift his gaze to the jumps.

Will the pups work more in the mini seminar than they did for a live Zoom session? J

    Hi Tracy,

Will the live seminars be an extended version of the games offered online? Or will they be separate things that aren’t also covered online for the working online spots?

    Backside Proofing – 11/17/20
Makes sense! Point the outside shoulder to the outer wing which moves the shoulder forward, but don’t confuse him with the inside hand coming back like it’s a serp. (Good thing he’s such a good sport) Tried this back on the 10th before the snow and he did better. Let it sit for more latent learning and it’s even better!

In other news, I’m in search of a different verbal cue for my left wrap. While watching some of Min’s US Open videos, I realized that lalala and el-el-el sound kinda similar. Not as bad as gauche-gauche and go-go…but probably too close. I’m trying out wrap-wrap. My right wrap is check-check. Let me know if you have any different sounds that you’d suggest.

    Accordian Grid – 11/16/20
Chalk up another one for latent learning. Didn’t do any grids for a week due to snow. Did this one at 5ft-8ft-11ft and he bounced the 8ft distance. He had to reach and is kicking up over the bar but he did the bounce and I thought #4 looked more comfortable for him than #2.

I’m familiar with Susan’s progressive grid so I’ll work that one in for the future. So Susan often has 5 jumps in her grids necessitating 4 bounces. Are we working with 3 jumps mainly because these are younger dogs or because the 5 is just plain excessive?

    Lateral Leadouts- 11/10/20
This was from the morning before the snow hit. Luckily only a few inches but the darn stuff is still there and I haven’t had time to shovel it. Hoping the warmer temps next week clear it up.
I moved the jumps further apart in the middle -up to about 10ft apart. It’s not shown on here, but he held his sit stay at the beginning while a squirrel ran by along the fence! I did go back to reward it and then threw in some catches on the start line throughout the session.

    Rocking Horse Turn Aways -11/9/20
Snuck in 1 more session this morning before the rain started and the temps started dropping (1-3in of snow forecast for tomorrow and it was 74 on Sunday! Gotta love MN weather variability)
Moved the wings further apart and he started going faster and sending better! I also like how he is accelerating out of the lap and tandem turns.

    Starfish – 11/8/20
2 sessions – First one was early morning on Sunday when it was still in the low 60s. 2nd session over lunch when it was in the low 70s. Impressed that he was happy to work for a tug toy (instead of a ball) for both of them.
In the 2nd session, the double-blind from the top of the starfish to the tunnel just kinda happened and he read it really well. We did the tunnel threadle next time.

    Accordian Grid – 11/8/20
Kaladin give 4 paws up for his new Pet Tutor although he hasn’t quite resigned himself to the fact that standing by it and staring at it doesn’t trigger the treat. I actually think he had better drive to it than food in a dish. Is that because it’s more fun when your treat rolls out at your feet?
Anyway. We did this at 5-8-11ft and a 6ft locked bar. His 5ft bounces still look nice and he compressed back down to them well. (Actually he looked more even in the 5th rep than the first when he was reaching a bit) I got a short 1 stride at 8ft even when I jazzed him up more for the 4th rep. The 11ft 1 stride looked comfortable. I think for the next time I might do 5-7-11 or 4.5-7-11.
The first rep of 5ft bounces he wasn’t powering through as much, but I know he can since he is having to compress back down to control the 5ft bounces when I did the mini sequence. I was wondering if I should do 5.5ft or 6ft in that context since I think we need to work more on extension than collection at this point.

    Backside Proofing – 11/7/20
Did 2 separate sessions with a nice long nap for Kaladin between them. And yes -crazy, but I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt outside today. Supposed to be 73 tomorrow and then rain on Monday and snow on Tuesday, but hopefully not much and not getting really cold again for at least a week.

I was really happy how he did with part 2 since we really haven’t done much with the countermotion lately and it was never one of his stronger skills.

    Lateral Leadouts – 11/7/20
Spoiler alert. We had done some work on these before Max Pup so I increased the lateral distance from 6-9ft in the first session.

Set Point and Ladder Grids – 11/6/20
Only have a few more days left of the lovely weather. Supposed to rain Monday and snow on Tuesday. He is a pretty level- headed guy even when I get him jumping around me before I start.

We definitely like the tunnel after better than a dead toy! Did 12in and a few 14in on the set point. Slowed down the motion on the 14in but he didn’t seen to notice the 2in difference.

    Zig Zag – 10/29/20
Realized I had never posted this one from last week before our “heat wave” this week. Had some issues so we ping ponged back and forth on the number of jumps, but he also had some nice bounces.

Smiley Face Tunnel Threadles – 11/5/20
He did sort this out quickly. Did 2 short sessions yesterday with the tunnel openings arranged to make the threadle one more obvious and using his name instead of tunnel threadle cue. Today’s first session really starting coming together with him accelerating to the tunnel so I put the cue back and started making the tunnel openings more equal. Then I started messing with his mind by leaving balls on the ground instead of carrying them in my hand.

    2nd session
He was getting tired here (it almost got to 70 today but that’s not going to last past Sunday), but did do the tunnel send followed by the threadle. I cracked up watching him give mickey mouse ball a long look on his way to the wing. (this was an improvement from a session yesterday where he started a wrap and then bolted 15ft away to go grab his ball on the ground!)
