ParticipantSet Point – Oxer – 9/24/20 & single with motion – 9/28/20
Oxer (4&6in, 5ft spacing)
2 reps with the double and then finished with a single. Watching live I thought he was kicking up his back end too much but on video it doesn’t look so bad. He’s still rounded and looks organized when taking off. Then he’s powering over the jump with a bit more oomph than he really needs at the low height.
Single jump – 6in locked bar, 5ft spacing –
He seems to be handling my bit of motion pretty well. Still looks organized at the set point. Might be taking off a bit further from the jump due to not striding in as deep? I realized that I released him right as he was starting to lean forward on the sit on the last one so did a release to a catch to finish.

More distance. Also used a tug toy instead of the ball and since it was still rather warm stacked the odds more in my favor by letting him watch me toss the toy so it was only recently dead. Also wrapped him the other way so he could have swung wide around the jump but he locked on to it with no issues.Julie Heller
ParticipantSmiley Face – 9/25/20
Went deeper to the tunnel so I could show the decel. Also tried a left and right out of the tunnel which he did (yay) then I started wondering if I should use left and right like that if it’s supposed to be a take the obstacle and turn cue. Or maybe I should have just said it sooner as he was going in to the tunnel?Julie Heller
ParticipantWing Wrap Proofing – 9/24/20
He did better doing the wrap first even with it about 3ft away. He also tried to skip the wing and go straight to the tunnel one time. And the last video of this was the last session of the day but he had a couple of hours off between it and the one before it.

ParticipantSet point – 9/23/20
Tried 5ft and 5.5ft distances. Bar locked at 6in. And yes, he will be 1 year on Oct 15.
I am currently feeling the pressure of getting some more jump grids in before I lose too much daylight or lose my grass to snow. I don’t have easy access to an indoor space over the winter outside of a structured class. So if you feel we can move him along a bit faster in the jump grids now knowing it will slow way down later and until spring, that would be great.Julie Heller
ParticipantStrike Pose -Countermotion Serp – 9/22/20
We did some sessions inside with a barrel in jump bump, but this was his first one with the serp. It was a bit warm over lunch but I wanted more room for this one. Used Nemo instead of food as it would have taken him forever to find dropped treats in the grass.
I’m sure this will make an appearance in part 2 so I’ll keep re visiting it and try to build up to more countermotion

Issue with big standards…poor throwing skills are exacerbated.
Was hard for him to leave the ball on the ground but he did it. Then he was fine witj wrapping away from the toy but we ran in to the “dead toys aren’t as interesting” issue. Probably didn’t help that it got hot here again and was 80 after some lovely 60deg weather.
We revisited sending ahead to nearly dead toys at the end.Julie Heller
ParticipantWing Wrap Proofing – 9/21/20
OK – maybe moved the standard too close (3-4ft) at first as he started taking the tunnel on the wrap cue. Whoops!
Cropped out some of the tugging between repsAnd I’m front-loading my training this week since I’ve got stuff the next 3 evenings and am at a USDAA trial on Sat/Sun.

Really pleased with how he handled this one the first time. Visualizing the hand pointing to the collar helped a lot

ParticipantSet point – 9/21/20
Did the first two at a 4ft distance and the last one at 4.5ft. Bar locked at 6in because our grass is really tall and hiding 4in bars. I like how he is organizing himself between the jumps and focused forward. Of course he has done these a few times in the past few months.
So hard to leave the Nemo ball behind and go line up.

ParticipantWing Wrap Proofing – 9/20/20
2 sessions mashed in to 1 video. Ditched “gauche-gauche” and did some barrel wrapping with “El-el-el” for wrap left. (and if that turns out to be too much like something else, the next candidate is port-port-port (but even though I coxed crew in College for a season, I am likely to forget the association of port and left!)I think I’m leaning over too much (isn’t video wonderful for pointing this out?)
I love how creative he got when I didn’t support the tunnel with a bit of movement, but he sorted it out, got his Nemo ball and nailed the tunnel the next time.Julie Heller
Participant9/20/20
Once more with feeling! Did a session with me moving more. This is the one after that with more motion and distance and me mostly remembering all the verbals.Oh Fudge – you’re right on the gauche and Go….Might be back to El-el-el which at least has a different vowel than lalala. This session was done before I read your reply.

I’ve got a UKI At Home Snooker course in my backyard so we moved to the front with the huge wing that doesn’t fit as well in a course in the back. I figured he might as well see a variety of standards including home made ones from shower curtains! Sometimes he was turning his head a bit to look at me but he was committing to the jump nicely as he came out of the wrap. I watched the full video after I did this session. I think I was supposed to add faster movement before adding distance, so I’ll go back to a slightly shorter distance and start moving myself more. And I decided check-check will be wrap right and gauche-gauche will be wrap left. I am going to transition Min to these. She prefers to turn right and I am used to saying check check so I;m repurposing that one. Gauche-gauche is new for her but she’s catching on quickly. Swing was my flip away on a tight wrap and Kaladin actually does that on the flat so I’ll keep that just incase it comes in handy for something.

ParticipantRocking Horse Tunnel – 9/16/20
2 sessions today.
Not quite sure what I am doing to get him to duck back in the tunnel exit on the threadle. I called him to get a turn to me just to break it up and then he started threading again.
Around 2:30 I think I have proof that my connection and shoulder is way more important than the tunnel cue since the cue was really late and he still locked on to the tunnel.
That’s the first time he came in so hard that his teeth made contact with my leg instead of the toy. Clearly he was frustrated and over aroused. The squeal on my part was involuntary but he did give me a bit of a shocked look and was more careful the next time.
In the video did you really do a FC after the wing wrap but send to a toy next to the tunnel? I did it as a post turn here as it felt like a FC sending to the toy was muddying the waters too much for my puppy that missed the tunnel when I Iost connection earlier.
And thanks so much for the plan on how to address his right side flinching. I has to laugh at your comment on the pinball game being more fun as I’ve always gotten bored pretty quickly with circle work.
Julie Heller
ParticipantI’m seeing that he is starting to look for toy across the bar more when he goes to the left than the right, but will do a few more sessions dropping it soon and then see if I can start delaying the drop because he is looking to come in over the bar. I should also add that I am using 4.5ft bars instead of 5ft bars as I’d like him to understand coming in over shorter ones since you do run in to those. Let me know if I should be using 5ft bars instead to make it easier at this stage.
I’ve done various sessions of Derrett style circle work/SG Reinforcement zone since he was younger. I haven’t done as much lately during MaxPup camp, but when I’ve gone back to it I’ve noticed that he doesn’t stay as close when on my right side and sometimes even flinches away. This is more common the faster I go or the more I pick up my feet while moving. I think this originated months ago when he wrapped the leash around Dean in a walk and Dean whipped his leg up and over to untangle himself before I could more carefully extricate the 2 of them. After that I worked a lot with food and toys to desensitize him to slight leg movements near him and then more movements. It went well and he seemed to be over it, but now it’s back, and mainly when he’s on my right. I don’t see it if he is busy tugging next to me or aroused by something (during meal preparation I can practically do the can-can near him and he’s glued to my side), but I am seeing it if I jog/run with him on my right and sometimes (although not in the video) with him recalling to my right if I am moving. (he’ll come in and at the last minute veer off a bit to put distance between us) I don’t see it on tight circles when I am not moving much at all. He has an extreme example on the inside circle towards the end of the video where he actually shies away. Do I just keep working at this off and on with him below threshold and build up my speed again? Or should I be doing something else? Or will this be something that I can work on in the context of the next session’s games?
