    Lap & Tandem Turns – 8/15/20
It is feeling smoother outside where there is more room. Had one session where he tried to go straight to the prop at first so I added some lateral distance the next try and he came to me first. In this session it worked well even closer to the prop (maybe because I started cueing the turn sooner)

Rocking Horse with Nemo & Rotated Sends with Spider Ball – 8/14&16/20
Thanks for the great feedback! Did some short session last week, mixing it up with tug toys, food and Nemo, rewards close to barrel, and trying hard to remember not to push back on him. Now doing much better with the cones/tunnel combo (although he did offer trying to jump inside the tunnel once…), the barrel & the rotated sends to the laundry basket (even with a car going by!)

    Turn & Burn/Rocking Horse – 8/9-11/20
So our lovely turn & burn seems to have gone haywire. We did another short session late last week and it was similar to the earlier video. On Sunday, I wanted to try 2 turn & burns but it was hot so he didnt’ want to send around the barrel and lay down. Did some sit/stay catch work for 2 reps and took a break. This is a combo of 5 sessions from Sunday evening when it was cooler through tonight. He’s been luke warm on sending to barrel even at close distances and when cooler outside. I’ve been experimenting with different toys and foods. Best performance with Nemo but that’s a hard toy to use for Rocking Horse game.
Throughout this, he’s been doing great with the other exercises and also doing the sit/stay-catch/get-it stuff with various toys

Tandem Turn with Prop – 8/11/20
Feeling a bit smoother but I feel like I do tend to stop moving forward as I’m turning him. Added bonus of doing 1 rep with the distraction of Min getting in the way

    Tracy,

Question on your comment for the get out. You said:
Remember to start him behind you (stay or cookie toss) so you can move up the line and give the cookie while he is still behind you.

Give cookie while he is behind me? I thought he goes ahead and out to the prop?

And when do I name this one?

And yes – it’s a brass quintet arrangement of Penny Lane and he’s playing the first trumpet part.

Strike pose threadle with cue – 8/10/20
I added the “Come” cue since he seems to be getting this. Should I say “come” and then put down my hand for the target? I think I kind of mashed them together.
It took me a few reps, but I did remember later to stop indicting the turn back with hand and he seems to be doing the turn back pretty well.
And Yes some of the earlier serpentine reps had food in dish already. I was mixing it up.

    Prop – Get Out – 8/10/20
I realized that the video chopped off my upper body but I am using outside hand and he seems to be getting it – Plus you get the Beatles this time.

    Melissa,
We’re in a suburb west of Minneapolis. My maternal grandparents lived in Falls Church, VA. I bet Ft Collins is quite a change from Arlington.

    Hi Melissa,

That’s my husband, Dean. He’s been teaching his private students via Zoom since covid hit. He mainly teaches privately but usually he has some gigs too when we aren’t in a pandemic.
He wanted me to tell you that was our other dog who can sound just like a trumpet.

2 Lap Turns with Prop & Tandem Turns 8/8/20
It was the Colonel Bogey march after the Offenbach (Dean’s got an outdoor quintet concert next week). This was at an outdoor trial site which has great opportunities for working at a distance from distractions. I did 2 lap turns first as previous session was filled with distractions by dogs walking by our tent (he held his sit and got lots of treats). Then did the tandems with the 360 spins first – still feels kind of awkward but I think I was better at not stepping in to him on the turn back

    Turn & Burn around Chute – 8/2&3/20
Looks like I forgot to post this mash-up earlier. Turned back once when I started moving too soon.

Strike pose threadle on jump bump -8/9/20

Really hot and muggy even later in the day so I rewarded most of his even halfway decent line ups. He came through standards once on position 3 so I shifted him back to 2.5 the next time

Strike pose serp with jump bump and dish -8/7/20

Earlier in the week we did 2 sessions with the dish on the ground and no bump. One was in the front yard of the massage therapist while Min & Tari were being massaged. Then this was the 2nd session with the jump bump and the dish.

I got hooked on verbals when I did Handling 360 with Min. I like the ones I picked for her so think I will keep them for Kaladin.

Go – go on on a straight line taking stuff in your path
Jump – take jump in extension and continue on path
Hup- jump in collection and turn (eg: Hup right)
    Left/Right – turns up to 90deg-ish
Check-check-check – take jump and wrap towards me
Swing- take jump and wrap away from me
Lala – take backside on slice and extend after jump
Nana – take backside and keep wrapping as I run past you
Diga-diga – 180 turn (has been helpful with Min when another jump is at a softer angle so left/right could be confusing)
Tst-tst (sprinkler) turn off path (usually followed by a turning cue)
Come – threadle when continuing in extension
Here – tunnel – threadle to opposite end of tunnel
Get out – lead change and get further out than what their line was
    Flip – sharp turn left
    Turn – sharp turn right
    In-In-In – Flip/Turn – threadle and wrap back left/right

I haven’t done much with tandem or lap turns with Min so am debating whether that will use flip/turn (left and right sharper turns) or something else. I hope flip/turn will work (swing is used with the dog going in the same direction as me and flipping away/back so I don’t think it makes sense when dog is coming in and then turning back)

I also taught Min Li-li-li and R-R-R for sharp turn left/right to tunnel/contact from the other or out of tunnel, but they aren’t as strong and I am wondering if Flip/Turn would be better here for Kaladin. (I think I will experiment with Min turning our of tunnels using flip/turn and see what she thinks)

I guess flip/turn could also work in place of check-check/swing so that the dog has an absolute direction instead of in relation to me, but I’m pretty used to the latter and in my mind (not sure if the dog always agrees but usually I think Min does), check-check and swing are take the jump and then wrap while flip and turn are more instantaneous and used on the flat.

I also did a bit of teaching Min Zaza for a blind cross but I don’t use it consistently and I don’t think she needs it when I am not late and stay connected

    Turn away Tandem Turn- 8/7/20
2 sessions mashed together (and summer concert in the park trumpet music for your listening pleasure)
2 Mechanica felt pretty awkward especially in first session. Not always turning as tight when on my left left
