ParticipantRocking Horse Spin & Racetrack – 8/23/20
Mashup of 2 sessions. First one with a fluffy tug that he doesn’t like to give up so we spent lots of time tugging and letting him have it (some cropped out)
Then tried it with Nemo since it was getting warmer and I also wanted a smaller toy to hold.
And yes -that’s the formerly big scary blue barrel! We were having so much fun, we tried the race track too after a short break. I find it hard not to look ahead to the next barrel and I think I must be doing that a bit too soon because that’s when he slips behind me.

ParticipantLeading with Head – 8/22 & 23/20
First video is a mashup of 2 short sessions with the PNU inside
Then the next day we used the Sherpa bag inside (with treats that were too crumbly) and the “big scary” barrel outsideJulie Heller
ParticipantTunnel Threadle with Cue – 8/21 & 22/20
I think YouTube is losing its mind. Video was fine on my phone and uploaded to youtube without stalling out and then clearly got stuck when you hit play.
So I cropped out some of it and added today’s session
Used Here and then decided I wanted repeated cue so repeated it for here-here-here. Was so so about engaging with tug without me hanging on to the other end so switched to Nemo since it was still warm and muggy
2nd session did the double whammy. Clearly need to work on picking him up better when setting up so I stop losing him in to the tunnel.

ParticipantSerp/Threadle with Nemo -8/21/20
Upped the stakes with Nemo. Good reminder about doing more serps than threadles. I did too many back-sides with Min when she was younger and she sometimes defaults to the back without a backside cue. He made some mistakes when he wanted to go straight to Nemo so paused the motion

ParticipantTunnel Threadle with Cue – baby level – 8/21/20
Used “Heeeeerrrre” and then decided a shorter repeated cue would work better so repeated it for here-here-here. He was so so about engaging with tug without me hanging on to the other end so switched to Nemo since it was still warm and muggy

ParticipantTurn and Burn on Wing – 8/21/20
Used food as he offered wing wrapping. Then moved to Nemo with turn and burn. Knocked in to wing once as I was accelerating, but he didn’t the next time we went that direction.-

ParticipantRocking Horse more distance with barrel and stacked tunnel- 8/21/20
Forgot the decel part for rotated sends (duh!) It does make switching the position easier

ParticipantThanks, Tracy!
I think “Here” will be come in and take the less obvious tunnel entry.
Kaladin is shaping up to have a really nice long stride so I won’t have time to say tunnel too and still get out of dodge.Julie

ParticipantTracy,
Question on the tunnel threadle verbal cue. For Min I was using sprinkler followed by “Here – Tunnel”. So the sprinker was the heads up that a turn off the path was coming. The here was actually the “and we’re threadling to the other side of the tunnel”. So for this would I use “Here-Tunnel” or is the tunnel redundant? I don’t think I use “here” for anything else other than a tunnel threadle. “Come” is my jump threadle cue.

ParticipantRocking Horse with Spider Ball -8/19/20
Gave him a few days off the wrapping stuff since I had done multiple shorter sessions last week playing around with rewards and what I was sending him around. So today added more distance between the items. Sending nicely when I step forward. Used spider ball since it was warmer out and he stayed engaged. Tried some rotated sends. He very obligingly sat and watched while I sorted out what I wanted to do next on these since they tend to confuse me when it’s not a jump there (I cropped some of this handler indecision out but he sat the whole time, looking up at me and turning his head as I muttered and moved my arms around.) And apparently my house is trying out for the role of leaning rambler of St Louis Park.

ParticipantSerp & Threadle with Motion – 8/18/20
We did separate sessions with serps and theradles yesterday. This is the first time we did them both in the same session. He’s thinking hard on these. The first threadle session he hesitated on releasing on the come cue so I did one without motion. This time he was more confident about it.I Love how Contraband rolled over when the caption of Team Chill came up.
Eat it means get treat/meal in the dish. It’s been reinforced a lot with his meals.

ParticipantThreadle & Serpentine 8/14/20
2 Separate sessions (I haven’t put the serp & the threadle together in the same session yet) – Threadle with cue and keeping hand back – he’s turning back to the jump nicely when I say ‘eat it’ to send to dish as he is almost to hand
Serpentine – broke sit on first rep and went straight to food dish and then sorted it out.
YouTube didn’t like it when I put the 2 sessions together so here they are separately.

ParticipantGet out with Prop – 8/15&16/20
2 sessions together & cropped out some hunting in the grass for his treat – He really likes sending out so I was doing more with having him stay on the line with me. Should the reward be on his path after the get out or can it be on me if I move out to his path?

ParticipantLap & Tandem Turns – 8/15/20
It is feeling smoother outside where there is more room. Had one session where he tried to go straight to the prop at first so I added some lateral distance the next try and he came to me first. In this session it worked well even closer to the prop (maybe because I started cueing the turn sooner)

ParticipantRocking Horse with Nemo & Rotated Sends with Spider Ball – 8/14&16/20
Thanks for the great feedback! Did some short session last week, mixing it up with tug toys, food and Nemo, rewards close to barrel, and trying hard to remember not to push back on him. Now doing much better with the cones/tunnel combo (although he did offer trying to jump inside the tunnel once…), the barrel & the rotated sends to the laundry basket (even with a car going by!)
