ParticipantMelissa,
We’re in a suburb west of Minneapolis. My maternal grandparents lived in Falls Church, VA. I bet Ft Collins is quite a change from Arlington.

ParticipantHi Melissa,
That’s my husband, Dean. He’s been teaching his private students via Zoom since covid hit. He mainly teaches privately but usually he has some gigs too when we aren’t in a pandemic.
He wanted me to tell you that was our other dog who can sound just like a trumpet.Julie

Participant2 Lap Turns with Prop & Tandem Turns 8/8/20
It was the Colonel Bogey march after the Offenbach (Dean’s got an outdoor quintet concert next week). This was at an outdoor trial site which has great opportunities for working at a distance from distractions. I did 2 lap turns first as previous session was filled with distractions by dogs walking by our tent (he held his sit and got lots of treats). Then did the tandems with the 360 spins first – still feels kind of awkward but I think I was better at not stepping in to him on the turn back-

ParticipantTurn & Burn around Chute – 8/2&3/20
Looks like I forgot to post this mash-up earlier. Turned back once when I started moving too soon.Julie Heller
ParticipantStrike pose threadle on jump bump -8/9/20
Really hot and muggy even later in the day so I rewarded most of his even halfway decent line ups. He came through standards once on position 3 so I shifted him back to 2.5 the next time

ParticipantStrike pose serp with jump bump and dish -8/7/20
Earlier in the week we did 2 sessions with the dish on the ground and no bump. One was in the front yard of the massage therapist while Min & Tari were being massaged. Then this was the 2nd session with the jump bump and the dish.

ParticipantI got hooked on verbals when I did Handling 360 with Min. I like the ones I picked for her so think I will keep them for Kaladin.
Go – go on on a straight line taking stuff in your path
Jump – take jump in extension and continue on path
Hup- jump in collection and turn (eg: Hup right)
Left/Right – turns up to 90deg-ish
Check-check-check – take jump and wrap towards me
Swing- take jump and wrap away from me
Lala – take backside on slice and extend after jump
Nana – take backside and keep wrapping as I run past you
Diga-diga – 180 turn (has been helpful with Min when another jump is at a softer angle so left/right could be confusing)
Tst-tst (sprinkler) turn off path (usually followed by a turning cue)
Come – threadle when continuing in extension
Here – tunnel – threadle to opposite end of tunnel
Get out – lead change and get further out than what their line was
Flip – sharp turn left
Turn – sharp turn right
In-In-In – Flip/Turn – threadle and wrap back left/rightI haven’t done much with tandem or lap turns with Min so am debating whether that will use flip/turn (left and right sharper turns) or something else. I hope flip/turn will work (swing is used with the dog going in the same direction as me and flipping away/back so I don’t think it makes sense when dog is coming in and then turning back)
I also taught Min Li-li-li and R-R-R for sharp turn left/right to tunnel/contact from the other or out of tunnel, but they aren’t as strong and I am wondering if Flip/Turn would be better here for Kaladin. (I think I will experiment with Min turning our of tunnels using flip/turn and see what she thinks)
I guess flip/turn could also work in place of check-check/swing so that the dog has an absolute direction instead of in relation to me, but I’m pretty used to the latter and in my mind (not sure if the dog always agrees but usually I think Min does), check-check and swing are take the jump and then wrap while flip and turn are more instantaneous and used on the flat.
I also did a bit of teaching Min Zaza for a blind cross but I don’t use it consistently and I don’t think she needs it when I am not late and stay connected

ParticipantTurn away Tandem Turn- 8/7/20
2 sessions mashed together (and summer concert in the park trumpet music for your listening pleasure)
2 Mechanica felt pretty awkward especially in first session. Not always turning as tight when on my left leftJulie Heller
ParticipantStrike Pose Serpentine with Jump Bump – 8/1/20
So other than 2 failures where he wove around the standard to get to my hand, he transferred to the jump bump with no issues. (no idea why he thought that was what I wanted!) And he definitely can work longer with food since he’s not expending so much effort tugging. I should have broken this session up as he had a few instances of not lining up and sitting promptly.Julie Heller
ParticipantStrike Pose Serpentine with food dish – 8/2/20
Food dish is really high value! No issues in first session when it was empty. Took a short break and then did 2nd session with treat in dish. Watching this I think I should have removed the treat for his 2nd try instead of just changing my relative position and his angle. He thought long and hard and then decided to nose touch so I treated there and in the dish

ParticipantTurn Away – lap turn – 8/1 and 8/3/20
2 sessions mashed together. (Had issues uploading to YouTube so hopefully this works)Baby level went well. Broke sit trying to go to high value prop before we started, but MCH prevails when We actually got going.
Question on the tandem turn. In the video with Contraband, it doesn’t look like he gets a treat for coming in. Is that because he’s more in to food or are the lap turn mechanics where you did treat for coming in different?

ParticipantTunnel threadles & sends -8/1/20
Posting this one because I’m trying to figure out why he’s deciding to hang out inside the tunnel with his toy. He’s done it a few times before and usually when it was warmer. It was cooler for this session and I was doing more catch and playing between reps and also keeping the angles a bit easier. Unless it;s just that he likes to try to shred fluffy toys (although in 1 session a few days ago I had to fish Nemo out of the tunnel)

ParticipantProp Countermotion – 7/31/20
Added a bit more distance inside. How long should my arm be back and supporting the prop as I’m moving away? Sometimes I feel like I’m dropping it too soon when I start moving.Julie Heller
ParticipantJump Bump Parallel Path with Nemo – 7/30/20
Pretty happy with how he kept his noodles in the bowl with Nemo in play. Thx for reminding me about being ahead- he was successful when I made sure the line to me was through the jump but cut inside when it wasn’t.
In regards to him lying down when tugging in our tunnel session, it’s not teething. He’s had all his adult teeth for a while. I think part of it is him pulling back and just ending up in a down but I will try letting go sooner to see if he stops. It wasn’t hot then but sometimes he does seem to lie down more in the heat.

ParticipantTunnel Threadles – 7/29/20
So I was prepared to treat him for sticking with me and not taking extra tunnels and he didn’t even try.
There are mulberries in the back part of our yard (thanks to the neighbor’s poor planting decision) and he was dropping the toy to look for them in a few cases so I ended heading in the other direction to take the berries out of play. -
