    Wind in Hair – 9/29/20
Thanks for the clarification. For a while my brain was stuck on staying close to the jump and wondering whether I should be sending to the barrel from so far away! Stayed closer to my fox barrel and he sent ahead nicely to a tossed toy and a recently dead toy. “Jump” came out of my mouth the first time before I switched back to Go & Get it. Either way he seems happy to blow past me on a line.

    Tunnel Exit Turns – 9/27/20
1rst session – Discovered it’s easy to run by the tunnel on the inside when you lose connection and forget to say tunnel! And when wrapping to the outside around the wing and forgetting about the magnetic fingers/collar connection.

2nd session – No issues getting the tunnel on a wrap to the outside when I maintain connection and actually cue the tunnel. Had a really wide left turn even though I was saying left before he was in the tunnel. Next one had a tighter turn and I’m not really sure why.

    Tracy-
To clarify, next step is to stay close to the barrel so he drives ahead to the jump? You said wing which made me think of the jump at first

    Set Point – Oxer – 9/24/20 & single with motion – 9/28/20
    Oxer (4&6in, 5ft spacing)
2 reps with the double and then finished with a single. Watching live I thought he was kicking up his back end too much but on video it doesn’t look so bad. He’s still rounded and looks organized when taking off. Then he’s powering over the jump with a bit more oomph than he really needs at the low height.

    Single jump – 6in locked bar, 5ft spacing –
He seems to be handling my bit of motion pretty well. Still looks organized at the set point. Might be taking off a bit further from the jump due to not striding in as deep? I realized that I released him right as he was starting to lean forward on the sit on the last one so did a release to a catch to finish.

More distance. Also used a tug toy instead of the ball and since it was still rather warm stacked the odds more in my favor by letting him watch me toss the toy so it was only recently dead. Also wrapped him the other way so he could have swung wide around the jump but he locked on to it with no issues.

Went deeper to the tunnel so I could show the decel. Also tried a left and right out of the tunnel which he did (yay) then I started wondering if I should use left and right like that if it’s supposed to be a take the obstacle and turn cue. Or maybe I should have just said it sooner as he was going in to the tunnel?

    Wing Wrap Proofing – 9/24/20
He did better doing the wrap first even with it about 3ft away. He also tried to skip the wing and go straight to the tunnel one time.

And the last video of this was the last session of the day but he had a couple of hours off between it and the one before it.

Tried 5ft and 5.5ft distances. Bar locked at 6in. And yes, he will be 1 year on Oct 15.
I am currently feeling the pressure of getting some more jump grids in before I lose too much daylight or lose my grass to snow. I don’t have easy access to an indoor space over the winter outside of a structured class. So if you feel we can move him along a bit faster in the jump grids now knowing it will slow way down later and until spring, that would be great.

Strike Pose -Countermotion Serp – 9/22/20

We did some sessions inside with a barrel in jump bump, but this was his first one with the serp. It was a bit warm over lunch but I wanted more room for this one. Used Nemo instead of food as it would have taken him forever to find dropped treats in the grass.

I’m sure this will make an appearance in part 2 so I’ll keep re visiting it and try to build up to more countermotion

Issue with big standards…poor throwing skills are exacerbated.
Was hard for him to leave the ball on the ground but he did it. Then he was fine witj wrapping away from the toy but we ran in to the “dead toys aren’t as interesting” issue. Probably didn’t help that it got hot here again and was 80 after some lovely 60deg weather.
We revisited sending ahead to nearly dead toys at the end.

    Wing Wrap Proofing – 9/21/20
OK – maybe moved the standard too close (3-4ft) at first as he started taking the tunnel on the wrap cue. Whoops!
Cropped out some of the tugging between reps

And I’m front-loading my training this week since I’ve got stuff the next 3 evenings and am at a USDAA trial on Sat/Sun.

Really pleased with how he handled this one the first time. Visualizing the hand pointing to the collar helped a lot

Did the first two at a 4ft distance and the last one at 4.5ft. Bar locked at 6in because our grass is really tall and hiding 4in bars. I like how he is organizing himself between the jumps and focused forward. Of course he has done these a few times in the past few months.
So hard to leave the Nemo ball behind and go line up.

    Wing Wrap Proofing – 9/20/20
2 sessions mashed in to 1 video. Ditched “gauche-gauche” and did some barrel wrapping with “El-el-el” for wrap left. (and if that turns out to be too much like something else, the next candidate is port-port-port (but even though I coxed crew in College for a season, I am likely to forget the association of port and left!)

I think I’m leaning over too much (isn’t video wonderful for pointing this out?)
I love how creative he got when I didn’t support the tunnel with a bit of movement, but he sorted it out, got his Nemo ball and nailed the tunnel the next time.

Once more with feeling! Did a session with me moving more. This is the one after that with more motion and distance and me mostly remembering all the verbals.

Oh Fudge – you’re right on the gauche and Go….Might be back to El-el-el which at least has a different vowel than lalala. This session was done before I read your reply.
