ParticipantHi Tracy,
We started the big lead outs, big lines lessons. We had a lot of failure on module 1 – that blind cross. I’m not sure if my set up is just too tight for him or what. I thought my blind was timely.
Then in the afternoon, I went a different route – forced threadle, forced FC, lead out push. That went better conceptually, but he still drops a ton of bars and they are only at 14″.
I worked some set points after that (not on the video). He needs a lot of jump work.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I hope it’s ok that I’m kind of skipping around in the lessons – it’s kind of based on what setup I have out in the yard and how much time I have. We did the Yes Tunnel, No Tunnel, go tunnel baby steps today.
Looks like our long weekend is going to have great weather and I have very few plans, so I hope to catch up a little!
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I tried the lead out exercises again – on the other side. Throwing the toy early on the BC helped a lot!
He still had some problems with the bar on the FC – and it was an actual FC this time.
I also did a couple of pushes and this went ok.In the evening, I did the zig zag grid again. I think I got the toy placement better. He was good on the the first side. The second was a real struggle for him. We had just come outside – he was not tired.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
The goats are a riot.
I’ll return to that grid. I was on both sides – should I be kind of “inside” the jumps on the one side (him on my right) instead of at the end of the grid?
This morning we started the lead out exercises – we did the BC and FC. He consistently had trouble with the last bar – at first I though I was stopped, so I kept moving, but that did not seem to be it. Could have been the expectation of the toy (?)
I did not get to the push yet – we had a lot of reps of this trying to figure out that last bar.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yes, Judge did get to herd and made some nice progress over the 3 days. He worked both sheep and goats at the clinic.
We did a little of the Zig Zag grid this evening. Figured it might help that one side on the serps 🙂
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We were at a 3 day herding clinic, so just getting back to the serps. Started out on the side where we left off and I was focusing on staying in motion. It went well – it took me a few reps to get the jump spacing sorted out for him.
Then we switched sides and he had some trouble finding the jump out of the tunnel, but we worked through it – I slowed myself down to help him, but I tried to keep moving at that slower pace.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We started the serpentine concept transfer yesterday – a reminder with him with one, then two jumps. This morning we added the tunnel and worked one side. I started with e jumps angled and worked them back to flat. We will have to try the other side later. Judge is going to a herding clinic Thursday-Saturday, so not sure how much other stuff I’ll be doing (he’ll probably be fine, I’ll be fried).
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Ha! Yes, I had walked it, but then forgot what I was doing.
Today I walked it more, and took a cheat sheet with me 🙂 I think I did better -except the first rep after I changed sides.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We started the tight blinds to wraps. OMG, half the time I’m using the wrong words, especially when I added the second wing. As we know, I also struggle a lot with the visual when it’s only a wing, so my crosses are all over the place and I had a hard time with the spin on the wing. I did watch the video before I went outside!! Apparently, I need to watch it before every rep… If any of these are actually correct, then I can do better next time. Didn’t bother Judge that his mom was having a moment.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We were gone to a USDAA regional, so just getting back to working and feeling massively behind! It has been quite a while since I have done any threadle wrap work with Judge, so we started with the one wing. The first side (turning to his left) seemed more physically difficult for him than turning to his right. You will see- it’s like he wasn’t turning his ahead at all. He was moving his head better on the right turn.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I started the tunnel to 2 wings with the backsides. I had a couple of mistakes myself – turning the wrong way (I have a hard time visualizing what I’m doing on one wing), but he hung in there with me.
Then we revisited the one wing and I tried to do my crosses earlier.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I redid the tunnel to wing after paying better attention to the directions!! I hope to get to 2 wings later today or tomorrow – feeling a bit behind and I will be at a Regional this weekend.
He did pretty well with this set up.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We started the tunnel to wing – I need to take the map with me because I was turning him the wrong way on a lot of the reps, so this session is a bit more free form than the lesson plan… I knew those first couple felt wrong!
I did a couple of them the way it was supposed to be done. lol.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I will revisit the head turning. One issue is that because I’m out early in the morning, the grass is wet, so I don’t know if that contributes at all.
We added on – more motion and the racetrack each way. I forgot my last verbal, but he turned with my body.
Thanks,
Joan

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Like everywhere, it has been hot, gross and smoky from the Canadian fires, so we have not done as much outside. The weather finally broke and looks good for a while. Here’s the beginning of Winging it – Countermotion – I did some with me stationary and then I started walking.
My wings are 15′ apart to give him a bit more room. I had not had my coffee yet, so a lot of the time I forget to tell him to strike the toy. haha.
Thanks,
Joan
