ParticipantWe attempted the RX out of the tunnel but it was a bit of a hot mess. The first session got cut off on video but it went the same. Help lol.
Then I set up the diamond with less space like you suggested. Not sure why she missed the last wing when on my right.
But again, really happy with how she did at the park! There were people, dogs and strollers going by a path about 15 feet behind the camera and she stayed very focused!

ParticipantPhew! I’m coming off a multi-day migraine, so just getting back to training today.
We did a rental at a facility she has only been to once before a few months ago. She was initially very confused why no one else was there and seemed a bit sad at first lol. Then she settled in and did some nice training.
This was our first attempt at the diamond. I think I need to keep my arm more back toward her. I tell myself to do that before I start and I think I’m doing it but the video says otherwise lol.

ParticipantOkay, I think I need some help clearing up the wrap verbals. I very well could have misunderstood, so please correct me! When she learned the wing wraps in MaxPup 1, I was using “zip zip” and “choo choo” and that was for a wrap like the puppy does in Send & Serp where they aren’t crossing back over the line they were on when they started the wrap. That’s what I use with Lazlo too. For me, the wrap verbal means a tighter turn, and just how tight depends on where I’m at and my physical cues. A softer turn (using right or left) would be more like a 90 degree turn-ish type turn. So for Send & Serp, it makes sense to me to use my wrap verbals, because I’ve been using them for those kinds of wraps since MaxPup 1.
Also, confession time… I haven’t started our “right” and “left” verbals. Don’t hate me! I have some kind of mental block toward verbal cues. I’ve been able to rely a lot on physical cues, but I know Vesper is going to be fast. Likely faster than Lazlo. So I suppose I should get going on that.
This weather is really not cooperating with my training plans, and a very delayed freezer repair person caused me to miss my ring rental for today, argh. So basement training it is.
We did the baby level of the ladder grid. I zoomed out as much as possible to get the side view for her striding, but the Ready Treat machine is cut off.
Then we did Send & Serp again, since we had some bobbles with that in class. I really tried to keep my arm parallel to the jump bar, not perpendicular. And I maxed out the distance between the wing and jump. At some point, I will try this again in class, and angle the jump if she’s having a hard time staying on her line after the wrap, like you suggested.
Snow on the forecast, so I’ll work on the serp/tunnel discrimination in the basement tomorrow. I may try the rear cross exercise too, but may not have enough space. We’ll see.
Vesper says it was so good to meet you and thank you for the pets 🙂

ParticipantIt was fun to see you at the Invitational yesterday! So sorry about CB ðŸ˜
I may bring Vesper in during a course walk through Sunday or Monday.
Here is Send and Serp from class. We had a little trouble, but what you can’t see is 2 people walking around setting bars, and she stated very focused! When there’s more space, she seems to have a harder time staying on the line and not cutting in.
Then we did a little Find the Jump…I need to throw sooner argh! And then one small Smiley Face.
Alisa Healy
ParticipantOk we did Send and Serp again and I got video this time!
Alisa Healy
ParticipantPouring rain all day, so once again stuck in the basement.
We tried zig Zag with 4 wings.
We also did more send and serp, and I swear I filmed it but it’s nowhere to be found. She did well, but I wish I had video so I could see my arm position. We will try again.
Alisa Healy
ParticipantOur snow melted, yay! But it was really wet out and I had a migraine so we didn’t make it to the park. We tried zig Zag at 3 foot spacing.
Alisa Healy
ParticipantWe had snow today so not able to set up at the park. We worked on zig zag in the basement. Our first session’s video got cut off by an incoming phone call argh, so we tried again this evening. Just a couple reps with a toy.
Alisa Healy
ParticipantAt class today we tried Send and Serp. I’ll need to try this on the other side, and we can play with adding more distance outside. But she definitely understood the concept.
And then a little bit of a modified Find the Jump. We couldn’t move jumps around because there is a set course, so it’s a one-eyed smiley face lol. I’ll have to try this one again outside, but she did well.

ParticipantFinally got around to wing wrap vs tunnel. At first I totally forgot I wasn’t supposed to use physical cues. Then I remembered and tried to rein it in, but on video I can see I was still helping her a bit haha!
Tomorrow she will be in the clear for more activity following her injury so we will play outside with more space.

ParticipantVesper got a limp after running around in a field, so I’ve been having her rest. She’s totally back to normal now but I’ve been conservative. We tried the shadow handling game today. It’s hard to see, but toward the back side of the tunnel, she was almost cutting to the inside of the tunnel to my other side, but then would go back to the correct side. The blind crosses actually felt easier. She never tried to jump up, but my tunnel is small, so not the most space to follow me.
Later today we tried set point with moving target. She was perfect! But again, I don’t have much space. I included a cute clip of her with her toy lol.

ParticipantWe will try it again with empty hands!
She had her agility class at the Farm today, so no other training. I still need to get to the wing wrap vs tunnel discrimination, but that’s easy to do at home.

ParticipantTried Smiley Face again with connection in mind. Watching the video, I still think I could have given MORE connection but it was an improvement from our first try. I could definitely feel a difference and didn’t feel so frantic to outrun her. I need to remember to hold my arm back toward her more as opposed to having it stretched in front of me.
Then we did 3 reps of Wind in Your Hair. First rep, I stayed kinda even with her. 2nd rep I tried to get ahead. Last rep I let her drive ahead.
This was a new location for her, it’s a forest preserve so lots of wildlife smells and she did so well! We did back and forth with cheese both turns and she was ready to work right away.
Alisa Healy
ParticipantYes, I was definitely feeling urgency to get ahead of her. We will try again with connection as the focus!
I couldn’t get outside today, but we worked on your suggestions for Wind in Your Hair indoors the space is small, but I did my best to get ahead and then let her drive ahead. I can try this again outside.

ParticipantWe will get back to Wind in Your Hair, but I wanted to try Smiley Face. We’ve done this once in her class at the Farm. It was very windy today but it died down a bit so I scuttled over to the baseball field and thankfully my wings stayed mostly up.
This was super fun and holy moly was I winded hahahaha! She’s got speed already.
Super proud of how focused she was here. There were kids and another dog outside the baseball field. It’s (mostly) fenced but she could have run to the perimeter to see them but she didn’t even think about it.
And she did a great job eating chicken and tugging. I didn’t include it but at the end I chucked her tug and she retrieved it!
