Just putting a disclaimer here what happens in the group stays in the group. The judge was super nice and let me run FEO so please don’t share the videos outside of class. I will email you course maps for standard and T2B (I did try to almost follow the numbers).

Fast forgot food going up to the line it was a hairy because the 12” in front of me was Mia..: I was thrilled with his engagement. I think I popped the 11th pole ish but yay for effort…
    Loved this run 🙂

    T2B FEO
Well that was a crazy start be more defined and intentional??? but I was generally pleased with all the rest.

    Standard
Yay we qualified any suggestions for the visiting? Is this lower arm position better for him since I can’t throw my arm wildly right now should I try to keep my arm more “sedate” When I can move again?

JWW we would have probably qualified but oh 💩 too many treats at the vet on Wednesday caused diarrhea left this in for anyone having a bad day. Merlin seems unphased so fingers crossed he understands he was still great..,

Environmental observations engagement while just walking at the trial site is super hard for him to offer unless I prompt??

Get it game is causing more ground sniffing do I need to balance something or?

Do you let your gang sniff on cue grass sniffing has suddenly become his zen space where nothing phases sometimes…

Next trial is tomorrow not expecting much the environment is challenging for me on my best day because the floor is less squishy but my medical team said I could go so why not it was too late to pull. Hoping to run feo if the judge will allow.

I want to review the volume dial with Merlin because I do feel like once he’s gone sniffing or whatever especially off leash getting him back feels like a challenge that I don’t want to have.

He’s definitely the super sleuth for oh her pockets are empty.

Really trying hard not to verbal vomit I think I may put duct tape over my mouth. Thanks for pointing out he’s always right and I’m always wrong keep it up seriously! If I use the reset cookie with that be returning or just a game of volume dial? Just trying to make sure my mechanics are in sync.

Side note my teacher still believes in using those markers even though I’ve tried to use them less any good articles I could sneak to her to bring her more into your realm. She’s a very accommodating human and positive dog trainer but sometimes knowledge could stale. Science has told us a lot especially recently about plus R training. By the way if you want to geek out Linda P case has a new book out that is a fun and interesting read especially about what science tells us for what treats dogs prefer.

He did relax on the bed it was work a little because I was away from the bed but I pay really well like a handful of kibble to hang out. Haven’t tried engaged chill out yet because I still need a cookie to get him to come to me first. I wanted to play some more at home before I accidentally made it work.

Re-using the leash at the line with no food like it a trial he’s all business and has no interest so I’m not sure I’ll get that in ring benefit…

    thanks!!!

Thanks that helps! I know one of the weeks I may not get to upload any video so just consider my overage here that week. I combined a couple of training sessions into one string I hope my Mac went crazy as I was editing. The first session is at my parents and he definitely is not a fan of his toys in new or different environments. I’m thinking that if he can’t interact with the toy it may not be worth it to keep pushing using food seems like less fighting or? I thought maybe I would ask the question and if he says no just use food on those days or places?
The agility yard practice was interesting obviously toys have some value because he will play fetch with his ball. Random clip of bed and treats if they weren’t on that was behind as a rest stop. What I didn’t know until later was that a dog in heat or just out of had been in the yard prior so extra credit for any focus since I came to play engagement games and was slightly befuddled as to why it seemed much harder than it should be. I was thrilled with the weaves so I left that tiny clip for your joy. Line up mechanics still struggling once he’s in position he’s like a lazy horse at the start gate and wants to angle each additional setup seems to devalue because the cookies are slower to come especially at trial etc… note the grass was wet so that added complexity here. A frame contact any suggestions to define stick it I have a feeling my target is too far out? The teeter and dw contact are doing much better.

Could catch be a get it replacement or alternative? That appears to be his favorite foodie and sometimes toy behavior.
Waiting on video to upload will be in next post. Ignore anything that bores you.

Working to build engagement for get it especially when the environment is distracting. So when you enter a trial and do this mechanically are the treats more at your feet and you have the treats in your hand or in your pocket?

My treat frisbees without treats are really mind blowing for him and extra hard for out. What are the soft rubber (foldable) frisbees I’ve seen you with?

    Thanks

He did stay with me with no leash and or come back. I practiced this way because I always go to the line leash on and then remove for my peace of mind regarding other dogs and gates etc… he did offer his touch each time…

So I don’t think at least for now tugging the leash inside the ring probably wouldn’t be a problem but how do you get it back when they accidentally have it? I know he’ll give it back for food but I’m looking for alternatives… A lot of position choice today I don’t really care but I’m trying not to give the Q for sit or down if he’s going to choose the position at the start line it’s a work in progress. Is it okay to shift him over he has his crazy habit of lining up at an angle. Super proud on the one rep he was able to forget what was outside the window enough to focus.

I normally shove the harness and leash in a pocket but my food and ball were in the way today. Going to have to work on throwing the leash back because that’s definitely a distraction for him. Thanks COVID LOL

Curious for the take a breath why watch the nose versus watching the rib cage expanding contract or feeling?

My yards about to turn to soup in the rain so I want to play the focus leash off leash on game again but it probably won’t be until next week. I thought I would leave this here for suggestions for next week.

So some of this ended up being way more difficult than I anticipated for two reasons in my house is the only place in my house is the only place he goes nuts for his leash. The other is I wasn’t anticipating a deer that was taunting across the street he did focus so yay for that. At the end of my outside session you’ll see him get kinda weird and then go up on his legs another dog was coming so he did focus just enough to go back inside. We been working really hard other dogs equals you gotta come back so it wasn’t exactly your lesson but it was still okay for me.
One question I did have for the pattern if you toss the cookie and say get it they eat the cookie on the ground but then something in the environment is distracting or needs assessing so they look away instead of back at you I’m assuming you just wait that out?
I also planning to take higher value food outside to play again sorry I had measured out his favorite kibble so I use that because believe it or not he needs to lose a couple pounds. When I’ll play again I’ll make sure to incorporate for the extra calories ha ha.

Do you have a favorite source for the calming breathing protocol for sporting dogs or just dogs? I’d like to refresh myself. thanks

Okay will try both ways. I actually don’t mind bending over and hopefully my neck will be better soon so looking up won’t be a problem. Gave some thought to what he likes at home mostly he’s sleeping in his own bed, he likes scratches or we play with food or his hollee ball but the toy play doesn’t always extend to other environments especially when the ball doesn’t fly and he can’t chase it.

I’ll go for the hand touch to line up. For the paws up he does love it because it usually means cookie… he doesn’t like to stay with his feet up so we compromised with the bend… suggestions.

One of these days I’ll remember how to set up the camera, sorry. I obviously have more work to do with the start line he broke in class this week but it was wet and rainy. Hopefully my classmate has the film still checking. Anyway I was trying no cookies for start line position I can’t step over him probably not enough balance and he gets really angry if you touch his hair with your foot. Also trying to get him to push his tug ball back at me so it’s not as hard for me but still engaging for him. Any suggestions on the engaged chill? Thanks

So that would be the get it cookie toss and snacks but on leash mixed in with a loose leash walking, right?
PS did you get my email for the working spot?

So not that I didn’t already know this. But it probably matters more now that my arm is “broken” I gave Merlin’s leash to my friend to walk in the door the nose work class so that I could handle my other dog in my bag of stuff. It was like looking in the mirror Merlin was like me free to bounce to the end of the lead SI NG and play bow to all of the dogs in class and forget anything he knew about loose lead walking. Once we swapped back and I have the lead I started walking with food in my hand and paying for a loose leash. Any suggestions for improvement here he does like walking loosely and getting a cookie. But I realize this is probably one of our biggest struggles outside of the ring is walking in the door to the trial I realize that’s like 50 feet further than you’re probably looking at here but I do have that stumbling block the whole time Mr. social is hanging around close to other dogs for sporty things.
