ParticipantHi!
I know I am behind from being on vacation and work craziness, but I am still working through the exercises!
Below is the first session of remote reinforcement.
The next things I have coming up are a private with Becca on May 6 and a seminar on May 8. I may run to Raleigh to do some NFC runs on the 7th, if they are offering NFC for the ISC classes. I have emailed the trial secretary to ask about this. It is hard for me to get to trials because I live at least 2 hours from anywhere and also work full time.
I will definitely try to do some of the exercises with toys and get him more aroused with the treats.
Thinking trough his Kryptonite, he definitely gets amped up by seeing other dogs running, especially fast, loud ones. But he also often starts whining and getting excited as soon as I pull into the trial site, or as soon as my GPS says “you have reached your destination”. I think he learned the word “destination”, lol. At my last trial he was howling and going nuts as soon as I got there and got him out for a walk, before even being near the building.
Me training his sister where he can see is also very hard for him, and would probably be any easy thing to use at home.
Thanks! Andrea

ParticipantA couple more videos. First is from my seminar this weekend. He offered good off leash engagement all weekend for treats in my pocket. I tried reinforcing him more after resetting after a failure, and that seemed to work pretty well. I am seeing some improvement with his arousal in the training building, which is great.
The second is the first session of line up games.

ParticipantThanks! He tends to bark during runs when he gets frustrated with me or a sequence that is hard for him and he doesn’t get as much reinforcement as he thinks he deserves. He will stare at me and bark when I try to reset him.

ParticipantI am on my way back home from vacation and finally able to post some videos from our seminar last Sunday.
I was not able to get Twister to engage with a toy as a reward for games at the training building. He would do games for food, and I was able to get him to tug, so I tried to rev him up more than I usually do with games and tugging. His first time in the ring with this new sequence was pretty good— it is below. I didn’t ask for a lead out, I just wanted to get him working without distractions and barking. He did pretty well, I think, although he did go visit Becca when he noticed her.
There was more barking in this subsequent turns, but I think he did focus a bit better at the start lines.
I have another seminar with him and Becca on April 2.
Warm up

ParticipantHere are some more videos. I am trying to do shorter sessions, I need to set a timer. 🙂
It is interesting that he is more high energy with toys. I feel like if I gave him a choice between food and toys he would take food, but that may not actually be the case.
Short action tricks session with better treats
Action tricks with toy
Pattern game, dropping treats on feet and with 2 toys

ParticipantSounds great, this actually makes a lot of sense when I think about it. I will experiment with jazzing him up before he runs at the seminar. Rebecca Thrift is the instructor— she comes to Wilmington about once a month and is great helping me figure out how to run my crazy boy.
My previous dog would get really distracted by dogs that were jazzed up before they went in the ring, and so keeping her calm and focused was my priority. Need to change strategies! One question I have is how to get him nutty without negativity affecting the other dogs waiting to run.
Here is our next session with me keeping treats in my pocket then feeding from the hand.
And here is our first session of Pattern Game, in 2 parts because we got a delivery in the middle. 😀

ParticipantHere is what we have of action games now. He didn’t like these treats very much, so i will find something else that contrasts against the grass.
I realized that we really only do his “back back back” game for toys, so I got one at the end.

ParticipantI am excited to start working on the games. 🙂
I am going to be on vacation March 21-28 without my dogs (shocking! Big milestone birthday for me), so I may end up a little behind the schedule.
I know I need to train more action games, should I show you what I have and then move on to the other games, or take the time to train them now?
We also have a seminar on Sunday, so hopefully I can get some video of our pre-ring routine. His start lines are usually pretty good in seminars, but he does still get pretty wound up.
