    Hi Kerrie,
I was wondering where you were 🙂 Good to have you back!
I love the work with the reinforcement station. One thing I would do is when you reward her, I would place the food on top of the container rather than reward her from your hand. This builds reinforcement for the station itself.
Drills look wonderful!!! Your handling is great and she is fast and happy!!! I do want you to run over to the reward station with her at the end of your run. Nice job!!!
Yes, the next lesson will discuss handling more aggressively 🙂
Your startlines were perfect. One of the things I am SO happy about with you two is how much fun you both seem to be having. Your “play” is very exciting! GREAT WORK!!!

    Hi Annelise,
Some VERY nice stuff here. The LBG was good, I just want you to reward sooner. As soon as you see her look towards the jump, you want to toss the cookie. We are rewarding commitment to the jumps.
WOW WOW WOW!!! I would use your frisbee WAAAAAY more. There were so many great things about that!!! Especially the SPEED! She was way more enthusiastic and willing to go out and take obstacles independently. If you can change to a soft frisbee and like you said one toy is fine. Will she switch back and forth between food and toys with the frisbee, or is the value of the frisbee too high? Super nice stuff here.
Last video, you were way more excited and animated and I could see that carry down to here. Some nice things here. I think you can use a toy for the shadow handling too and just roll the frisbee when you mark and reward.
Some really nice stuff here. I would like to see the frisbee used more with WiFi. Nice work!

    Hi Stacy,
SO glad that things went so well!!! Sounds like you are right on track! Yes, we will talk about an end routine in Lesson 5. I think what you are doing is good, there might be a couple extra ideas involved. Nice job!!!

So sorry for the delay, we were traveling yesterday. You can just send the actual runs unless there is something in the practice session you want to see. For you two, I would like to see the handling portion.

    Hi Louise,
Sorry for the delay, we were traveling yesterday! Looks good! The handling and your effort to get her started and playing were good. You can use different rewards. Another thing you might try is to run one speed circle with the bars at her normal height and the rest at 8″.
I like to use jealousy games! If they work, use them! We will be talking about them in week 5. Is this all the work she got, or just what you videoed?

Wow! That was great! Super speed!!! Play like that it totally fine, just try to have a plan for every 3-4 obstacles so that you can time your crosses right. There were a couple times you goofed with your timing and your disappointment was pretty clear in your posture. Make sure you keep it light and fun. When you mess up and mistime a cross, reward Zoe. Make sense?

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the video and thank you for the feedback on the course! We will certainly try to offer it again in the spring!
So on your videos, I am seeing a few things right off the bat. He has nice obstacle commitment (YAY), but it seems you do a lot of rear crosses? He does question where he is going to go next and when a dog does that a lot, they get very uncertain and start to question every obstacle (or in the bigger picture the dog’s line on the course).
Viedo: At 0:10 seconds, I think you could’ve done a blind cross and not put so much pressure on his line (the most difficult thing about executing a rear cross). I believe that is what pushed him off of #4. Then he stresses. Then you start with him on your right and rear cross the tunnel (nice line), but you were careful to let him drive to the tunnel without putting pressure on that line. Are the weaves not an obstacle he loves? How did you teach them? Then you did a blind after the weaves. This was nice, but it was a bit late. When I execute a front or a blind, I want to try to have the dog on the new arm once they have committed to the obstacle. This gives them turning information and tells them where they are going next. Do you see at 0:48 where he almost took the off course obstacle? By continuing to have him on you left hand you are actually cueing extension and that off course jump. If you initiate the arm change earlier, that rotates your upper body which gives the dog MORE information that they are turning. Does that make sense? Same thing at the last cross. He takes the jump at 0:52 but your new hand does not come up until 0:54. So he actually has 0:02 seconds to question what obstacle you want him to take. He almost looks like he’s limping a little coming around that corner at 0:53 on his right front?
Standard was better and he seems to really like STD, but again lots of hesitation from Cody on the rear crosses. How did you teach rear crosses? I have some great exercises (some without equipment) I can share with you. It looks like that is your default cross? That is TOTALLY fine, I would just like to share some exercises with you so that we can make them better. Let me know and we will go from there. Also, let me know if you have any questions.

Okay, great! Will she work for a soft frisbee? That might be easier to manage than a hard one?

    Hi Stacy!
Drill #1&2 was AWESOME!!! I love it! Love your pre run stuff, this is fantastic! You’re right, your handling is more aggressive and you are doing a great job addressing the take off points at the jumps! SUPER NICE!
Drill #3 again was great! On thing I would have done for sure was to reward the stay by throwing a hidden toy back to her in place and then running over and tugging with her. She did a very nice job with that and I would have rewarded that right away rather than run the course.
In the last part of your video, she is having so much fun! Don’t worry if she is not barking, just worry about excitement and engagement. I think the sit, down and back is just a defaut cue (we all have them, Pepper’s is sit pretty and spin). She is fine, I actually didn’t see much change in her excitement. Also, are you throwing in a few reps at her normal height? Maybe even the last game you played with a jump or two at her regular height.
Very nice work! Let me know how tomorrow goes!

Hello! So I was watching your league videos and they look nice, nice speed and he is moving nicely. However, I really think you can get in there and handle more aggressively. Looking at the second video, you do a rear cross into the blue tunnel and then a rear cross into the weaves. Both of those places, you could’ve gone in there for blind crosses. Any time you push yourself for blinds, you put more energy into the run and your dog will generally give you more speed. This is fun for the dog! If you find yourself standing or needing to be super patient on a course for a rear, then you probably should have gone in there for a blind and MAYBE a front to put you ahead and the dog into more chase mode.
Drills: I really like the start on the first drill in the video. Nice job with play and excitement. Diamond missed the first jump out of the tunnel simply because of the disconnect. You did a much better job the second time, but it caused a late blind. What are your focal points on obstacles? How do you look for commitment in your dog? Give me a general idea and we can go from there. You also decelerated before the tunnel.
The second go was much better! Everything looked really good, just again, a little late on that first bind cross. Once you let me know what your focal/commitment points are, we can go from there.
The third drill was great! I think Diamond was having a TON of fun!!! When is your next trial?

Yay for the frisbee. This is actually great news. I want you to do any course (it can be 0ne we have done or one that is already set at your training facility). I would like to see you play frisbee with her without any agility, then I would like to see you play with her with agility equipment. I would like to see the LBG with the reinforcement being the frisbee (obstacle then throw the frisbee) and so on. I think this will help get some focus off you and looking away (hopefully towards equipment). I would like to also see the FF game played with the frisbee. Have you tried other treats? Chicken or cheese? Is she not very food motivated? I am totally fine with toys, I just what to know what tools are in the toolbox.

    Hi Tajana!
Some good stuff here!!! I like his enthusiasm! Do you feel like he is giving you more speed? I like how he is really moving and you both are having FUN!!!
Forward Focus: It looks like you are leaning over him? I would like for you to work the FF with you standing upright. Make sure you are looking forward and look for him to look forward while you are looking ahead. Does that make sense. As soon as he looks forward, you will throw the ball.
Drill 1. Really good and FAST! This was great!
Drill 2. Here I would break it down a bit and do running rewards after a couple obstacles. There are a few times that he is moving fast and then you add handling and then he gets very thoughtful and waits for the reward. I would break it down and reward more often to keep the speed up. Does that make sense?

This is good! Did it get better with each rep? You can continue to drop cookie in the bowl for the jp rewards. If you get a mediocre run, not many cookies. If you get speed, loads of jp cookies. Make sense? Also as she gets better, start moving the crate further away. If you get good speed 2-3 obstacles, mark “yes” (or whatever you use) and run to the crate and reward. Make sense?
