Week 3 Beginner Retrieve Games (Baby Level)

Our tug and retrieve should be much better than it is. I would really like to have this in my toolkit, especially since FEO runs allow toys now (at least if they are on our person). So any thoughts are welcome !

    Ok, thanks for that!
We rented some ring time, hoping to knock off some of these exercises, but it was harder than I thought it would be. While we had the ring to ourselves, it was a new place for him and it’s a boarding facility, so there were a lot barking dogs. All good stuff! But there was definitely an impact on his focus. I do try to apply thr MYOB stuff…

Anyway, here is a crack at the week 3 collection sandwich bit!

Markers— yes , thanks for the reminder about the cookie party! I will try to be more careful about words I use and when. 🙂

    On go backing up !
We have played with this before and we still have a challenge going straight back. Adding the board as a target sort of helps?!

    Hind end awareness.

Ha! It’s nice to know I have admirable knees! 🤣
Thanks, yes I can see I should handled variables a bit differently. I’ll take care on that!

I used to be resistant to multiple markers, but I found myself adding them anyway!
As I’m looking at this video, I see they aren’t terribly CLEAN, though. I’ll need to work on that. 🙂 And I have more markers than I thought I had.

Ok, thanks! Yeah, I know there’s “no pressure” but somehow it builds in my mind like that! 🙂

Ok, here is the game pkg 2 wing wrap foundations. This might have gone on a little too long. I wait for him to sort some things out, though.

So, dear Aix needed sutures on his carpal pad. We did that, and while his leg was wrapped he was still offloading a bit, so I didn’t progress on the games. Incision seems to be healed now, so we’re getting back to it!

We’re gonna play catch-up as fast as we can now! Usually when we get behind in online classes it seems discouraging to try to keep up and then we drop off. I’m trying not to let that happen this time….

Ok, this guy somehow sliced his carpal pad (between outside and breakfast!) and I’ve no idea how he did it. He’s not lame so much as convinced I’m sawing off his leg with the vet wrap… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, took a break for a couple days to give him a chance to get accustomed to it.

But here are Goat Games 2 and Plank stuff. He’s had some exposure to smaller wobble boards but first time seeing this one. I feel he needs a wee bit more confidence before moving on.

Oof! Haven’t been able to catch any of your runs at UKI but it isn’t for lack of try! Courses look fun but tuuuuffff….

Ok, we’ve tried the focus forward stealth thingy a few times and I don’t want to over-think it. Just before these games were posted I was working on his “stand stay” using a dish.
He’s got a really strong eye contact thing going with me, from crate game releases, etc. so the focus forward is important and a wee bit challenging. Not sure if I’m progressing correctly (too fast or too slow or ?) and also don’t want to overthink.
So thought I’d just put this here and see what you think . 🙂

Cool! I’ll work on those “upgrades”!
Thanks for fitting these feedbacks in—you must be at UKI? Which I am watching…dreaming…

Here’s the last couple of games from the first set!

Ah, good suggestion with the food toy. I have some.
Thanks for reminding me this isn’t a loop! Will remember that.
Ah! Yes! Save my GO for when it’s gonna matter. Ok!

    Next couple of games.
Can I just say how much I appreciate the field guides?
    They help lots!
Even if I take a “list of things to do” I sometimes forget the details and these guides really do help.

Anyway, Beginning wing wrap and shaping game in arousal.

He’s done this back-and-forth game before. And clearly has a direction preference.

Game: he’s 10 months old, so we’ve shaped a few things by now! I tried to find something he hasn’t been asked to do: get on the bed-side box, which was used by my old dog, and I wouldn’t mind if this guy learned how to use it, too!
    So, we tried!

    Focus forward:
He thought it was dumb with the toy. Food was way more fun. Forgot to look at him sometimes!
Decel—mechanics not as smooth as I would like!
Prop game. Had to think of something that looks lots different from tracking articles, which can be fabric, leather, plastic or metal. Your wine box suggestion led me to a shoe box with a couple of weights inside.

So….I’ve played some more with the pre-games. AND I also track with this puppy. He’s got GREAT article indications for tracking; I’m very happy with them. (lie down, nose on article.) But yesterday I took him tracking, and with several fabric articles, he went up to them, put a foot on and LOOKED AT ME! I was perplexed–he hasn’t been doing that. Then I remembered this foot target game……even though I don’t use this pleather-like bag as a tracking article, he must be confusing the two concepts. The context should be very different (hint: when wearing a harness and line, you’re tracking!), but apparently they seem close enough for him. I’ll have to keep working to show him the difference. Any ideas along these lines would be helpful !

Ah, thank you! I will be more still.

We’ve worked on a hand target but he’s a total goober and he thinks I’m asking him to LICK my hand! I tried to split out just the nose touch, but when shaping for duration (I love hand touch as a tool and precursor to other things) but I got the LICK and it made me laugh so much! 🤣 But I think asking for target on the note pad lessened the lick, so that’s good to know!
