ParticipantOk, I *think* I did what you suggested!!
We’ve worked on these a few minutes each day, for the last couple of days.
This is the best we’ve got at this point.
Didn’t have one of those pop-up hampers, so I just added to the height of the hydrant.Clearly this is the beginning stage, and there’s lots to build on from here, and we should keep practicing. But I’m never quite sure when to move on to the next game…still on Week One!!

ParticipantYay! I played with throwing food past the “thing” and upping the energy all around. And I did get some sends that I like much butter. THANKS! That worked great. Little clip of that in video.
Ok, the beginning wing wrap stuff. We have played at this before, but it’s been a while. And I noticed when I changed MY position, she had questions. So I need to play with that a bit more, too, and get to standing up.
So here’s some sample bits of all that.
Ann MacKay
ParticipantYES! Thank you for the reminder to lower my hand. I’m gonna want her to wrap with her head down…..not heel with her head up….there’s a difference! Thanks!
Ok, I’ve spent a couple of days on the next game, and I’m not totally thrilled with this send game…yet. I played with cookies, thought I’d try with a toy. I did start each session by rewarding first ON the thing, then starting to move away. I’m not very far away here, and she’s cracking me up a bit, not focusing on the thing…! But here it is, before I get too STUCK on something.

ParticipantThanks again for the toy feedback! We just got our new, longer toys from the Clean Run sale, so I can add those in to, and not put as much pressure on. AND let her win a bit, too!
Here is a little bit of the next game: Drive to Handler. I’m doing the best I can to maximize the “arena” and I even went to the diagonal and put up a barrier to stop the rolling treats…
I wanted to take it outside, but first day of single digit temps AND huge wind….
So we don’t get much speed or anything but I’m just checking in to see if we’re on the right path…Ann MacKay
ParticipantYes, same toy!
My toy play sucks. That’s the truth of it. So all feedback on my mechanics are welcome!!!
I’ll add a light line to the toy, and try to not to put on so much pressure.Short clip of toy play around a rep.
Ann MacKay
ParticipantArgh! Yes, I should have rewarded at The Thing. I know that, and you said it in the lecture! Ok. I went back and did that game again today. 🙂 No video, though.
Here is first Focus forward game. First with a toy (not so much interest?!) and then with a cookie. It’s a larger piece of cheese that’s not easy to see in video, but she can see it just fine. I cut out the “play tuggy with toy” but it was there before & between reps.

ParticipantHi Barb,
I’m sorry, I’m still confused.
The video I showed is not the first step?Ann
Ann MacKay
ParticipantI’ve read all the materials thoroughly, and I’m still having some questions.
First, the “clock” has me a bit confused. The poles move counter clockwise at this point, but we don’t. So I get confused as to how handler & dog start at 6, then 7, 8, etc.
I totally understand the reason for the line of reinforcement, and for moving everything to find different entries and learning the weaves. But I’m struggling with the description the clock. I’m hoping that the videos will help me understand this.
And for the record keeping…could you show us an example of one? Are we to record the all attempts? Or the percentage successful/not?Anyway, here is our first attempt.
Ann MacKay
ParticipantLet you know what I think? 🙂 I think you are absolutely right!
Ha! Ok, it never really useless to teach something new. Every time I find myself feeling that way, I laugh, and then I teach her how to close a door or put “a thing in a thing” more useless skills (kinda like me knowing lyrics to all the songs ever…what good is that?!?!)
Anyway….having a marker that says “right..let’s go get the goods” is a good idea, no matter where we may or may not use it. So we will !Speaking of ring transition and what-not….I worked an agility trial a few weeks ago, and was a bit dismayed by the number of Masters dogs that loped through the first 2/3 of the course, then barreled through the end. Course design might have something to do with it–so many courses have a last, fast line out. But it seems like there might be more to it. That’s where the reward is? Dogs learn to count? Something? Seems like a good thing to try to avoid in training. I imagine you have a plan for that. 🙂
Anyway, we worked some of the sequences in Package 1. I have the first attempts, some in the middle, and some at the end. When I switched to weaves, I set them in a channel, so she could build her weave muscles back up.
Ann MacKay
ParticipantOk! Out we go with the target! 🙂
Ring Transition
Ok, I did read this and watched video a couple of times.
Full confession, and perhaps TMI.
I thought I’d skip it because “this dog is never going into a ring”
She loves the training but truly hates the show environment. I don’t know what I did to inspire those feelings, but there it is. The tight quarters, cavernous buildings with close barking dogs–it troubles her.
We never stopped training at home and she has some mad skills because we both love training. I miss trials, though. I miss the environment. I miss the people.
So why work on “transition to ring” if she’s never going there?
OK, BUT
If I want to understand the skills, I need to work on it, too.
Who knows? Maybe someday again I’ll have a dog that likes the show environment.
So here’s our first attempt. 🙂Ann MacKay
ParticipantSequences for Package 3 done!
Its harder than I thought to disconnect–!! There’s parts where I could and didn’t.
There’s a slip and crash. The grass might be a little wet there and maybe I contributed somehow? She’s fine and not sore.
This was filmed yesterday morning but I didn’t have enough internet to post to class.

ParticipantSkills Pack 3
I’m playing catchup in class, but having ‘conversations’ with my internet provider.
I know you can relate!Ann MacKay
ParticipantOk, we worked on this during the week. First with a wing only, then bar on the ground and then low bar. Not entirely happy with it, but it is starting to take shape. Thought I’d post here so I don’t stall out. I’ll keep working on this but I want to move on in CAMP!
Ann MacKay
ParticipantOk, thanks!
Threadles always intimidate me. Every time I get to a part in a course involving threadles, I stall out. (Verbals class, tunnel class, etc) Maybe NOW is the time to address that. 🙂

ParticipantOk, had a go at the Pack 2 Sequences. Our forced blinds are not so good and I sort of made a mess of the first sequence. But it is all here, warts and all.
I thought about running the lines, and thought about it while walking, but didn’t always do it. hmm -
