About the lead outs
good suggestion will do

I think the first sequence reps were the last two here was trying hard to get something done beteen rain forgot my printouts but desided didnt matter too much as aim was to try and keep moving.

went to agility paddock in a hurry as had a client ring and was running late left phone at home. She did alot of good work- mistakes but felt we were more in sink. She loved the spread out equipment. So video fault …. Some truth in that as feel more pressure when filming esp when dong for class (but helps make more trial like).

Do wear shoes with cletts but so wet this year and clay soils when you sink you tend to get stuck. Dogs (and younger people) seem to stay on surface more.. Longish grass makes worse – I am also abit sensitive after do my ankle…. This year had a years rainfall in three months over summer (thus floods) and hasnt stopped since ever time starts to dry ouyt it rains again..

1 question I do alot of sending, layering and leaving in the ring because she is fast and this is also natural for her – I wonder if this makes it harder for her to read when I want her to stay closer or turn with me (especially when I am late or unclear )

Yes she is fast that is half the problem- when we connect it is beautiful but this is rare currentlly

Lead out – yes and no. I did have a lead out but when I lead out even a couple of feet I was losing her as soon as I released her – going into the other ring ( big issue) or going to check things out- dogs playing, toys or food left on ground… so started not leading out so she stayed watching me- am starting to get her focused on me at the start and adding in fractions of sec before I release her. Home where no distractions lead out good.

Trained at robyns so less room also no stimulating tug before started. Boy I look like a hobo but it was so cold and miserable..
Did exercise 2 first- video I was confused as to where it went- pulled her to the inside of jump and then nothing lined up. Second time forgot to turn video on after rewalked it and we did it correctly. We seemed to find this easier than first sequence.
Then went back to first sequence- still issues but when turned her the other way things were easier. Okay I still forget to move (i need someboidy to yell keep moving) .. and ground very slippery. Will do again on wider spaces hopefully thursday but 90 min round trip to where can do this.

Thank you this was helpful. sorry did on phone. Was meant to say I got her stirred up with a toy before did the course and probably would have got tighter less management if I hadnt.

I am putting up this video from saturday of one of our runs in ring so you can see how I am struggling and how I keep losing her as I am struggling to think and move fast enougn- my fault not her. and then I struggle to get reconnected
Ground was very wet and I was struggling to move- she didnt care. also because of her speed and bred she sees obstacles that it never occurs to me until too late
First mistake was she went round tunnel to another tunnel- I was actually pleased as the off course jump was on her line (not inshot) and she came off it – just didnt quite make the tunnel. Second big disconnect was when I tried to get a wrap back to tunnel and she went past and in the other end (and then I couldnt collect her up and so got round and round). really pleased with her layering around the back and send out to the out of shot tunnel and then turn back on the right line. Last error was small in that the wrap on the second to last jump she circled the jump but I was happy with that.

will try and get some trainng in again later in the week.

I agree with all the above it is why we are hear. If i had stirred her up we would have got more. She was reeatded on all the runs.

In the ring i usually run more but we are getting lots of going wide.

I know what was happening at 4 on was not good but not sure what i should have done. I tend to lose connection when she is away in front of her going fast. If ste does turn she would miss 5 and possibly six. There is a very fine line between her being super responsive and me losing her because of lacknof clear communication.

Sorry i feel as if i have got myself stuck in my head and at speed i end up in fefault which dont work.

Limited time around rain- in gumboots because wet.

Here is first sequence from skills plus added one jump. I got her super excited first go got typical behaviour seen in ring- wide, backsides, and then when a mistake is made the doing multiple objects before stopping. I ended up running less and over handling to get her to understand- not ideal. Her rere command is not the strongest but reasonable on a smaller course with fewer obstacles. I find if I call early it confuses her and so end up calling too late and she doesnt collect (collection is poor even when I am perfect, non existent when I am not)

For the tunnels, it could be a number of things:
– maybe she doesn’t want to break visual connection with you?
– maybe the handling is not quite clear enough?
– maybe she is going so fast that she can’t quite coordinate herself getting into the tunnel?
– maybe all of the above, or none of the above?

My view is that main issue is number three (going too fast) then closely followed by two I think by the time my command reaches her brain she doesnt have time to process it as she will also take another tunnel further away (but it does surprise me that it happens on a straight line where most things she takes what is in front of her, I only have one tunnel at home so maybe also she gets confused when more than one) I think first one less important as I think she gets focused on herself and the obstacles and forgets about me… will find video

Am looking forward to working on our connection and handling so we get the sort of runs she is capable of in the ring situation.

Tunnels
Think it is me being slow or a fraction off linr and her brain processing. She runs past entrance and goes in the other end. Sometimes on course can be every tunnel even if straight line jump jump tunnel but worse if tunnel is curved. Sometimes goes completely around tunnel. Seems her preference is to come out of tunnel toeards me. Other courses no issue. Dorsnt happen when exit from tunnel.is towards me. She doesnt come off her line towards me and take wrong end. So staying out and or moving out to do tunnel. Can also find a further away tunnel instrad of one in front of her

Link up i meant as we start to add more than one or two obstacles. When i put the bowls out i could get him to go to the bowls when 1 or 2 jumps basically straight but when i get more jumps he lost interest in bowls he just wanted a toy.

Haha arms are an issue i was trained to use big arms still common here and it is a default behaviour i work hard on… tracy tells me off frequently

is this better. If so will put some legs on it and secure the yoga mat.
Once he is waiting on it near jumps tunnels. I assume then we get him to go over and then get him to wait again. I will put yoga mat on so cant slip if hits it fast but not sure when he would.

I did a session with veloz at homewood. I am struggling to get him to use bowls when we link more together. Once he starts doing more the value of food drops away and a toy works better. Although he does like the snuffle mat at the end of a session to chill down. This was quite a long session as you can see we did alot of jumps. He was having fun and not boiling over. He was sitting well at the end I did try getting him to go to bowl but got resistence. I was also not getting a wait or sit at start but that was probably too much when there was alot of other stuff going on.

this week and a bit last week things are starting to get sort of normal. Veloz seems to be bouncing back after been quite touchy for the last month. Maybe our lack of progress is partly affected by events bad timing.

Tried platform near jump but was too close moved it back still sruggle. did a snuffle mat session in middle this did settle him abit. Left in struggles

here is find my face on a long line- very similar. to short lead. I think it might be time to try this closer to equipment as he seems to e getting it and not shutting down

This video is something I have been working hard on. He has always been super sensitive to undoing clip on lead. moved to a martingale and he is settling and waiting. Video not so much for you but me to remind me things are happening even if slowly.

I aslo did a session with jumps. it had a tunnel in it- he still struggles with tunnel jump combination. However, it also had 4 pole weaves (it was set up for my class). To my surprise he worked the weaves and even when made mistakes he didnt loss it. only a few minutes but liked that he didnt loss it when he was unsure. Used bowls around the weave Video didnt work.

?? he doesnt have a head halter on for find my face = I rarely if ever use one on him these days. He is on lead because with a disconnect his habit has been to leave= should have had him on a long line and probably now days needed less.

in the ring not shadow handling as such as no food in rings. I did alot outside the ring. I was just wanting an interaction listening to me asking for sits in ring situation and no eye spins. He was relaxed although alert.

I did have his snuffle mat just outside camera and we did a session at the end. I wasnt organised to have bowls in car.

will managed to do some work yesterday between rain and classes although cold and extremely windy- I think summer missed us this year.

I was pleased – as havent done any jumping for ages due to weather. I didnt really have a plan as it was abit spontaneous and I should have moved more. I do think carrying a toy improved things although I was also using food rewards. But much more settled (relatively) at the starts. (bad trainer I didnt have bowls or platform with me). I did a snuffle mat season at the end with toy retrieve and tug sessions through out.

Food scatter if he is high he is not interested although once he has started to settle he goes back to check it out. I have been using the snuffle mat at the end of a session.

I was away at a show this weekend – I think we all feel a little better for having been away. It was nice spending ages in shower and getting all my washing done with no guilt and quality internet. My two competing dogs worked well and veloz was relaxed and settled.
here is a little of veloz work in ring- he is on his toes and very alert but settled. I did alot of snuffle, bowl and shadow handling as well as lead on and off around the edges of the rings as well.

I assume you are talking about game with toy and mat so hyped up calm repeat game. He loves this game. but havent played it as much lately. will put it on list this week.

am hoping to get some jump work this week although currently raining again. will try to get more movement in tunnel work- i think it is because so busy thinking about him I forget about what i am doing…

the next video is platform work before your above comments but think it was a better session- maybe the platform was slightly more level- dont need to watch.
I think one of issues platform is my lawn is sloped so not a flat surface and harder to get onto. He has no issues inside. I dont have a larger platform or a raised bed that is stable enougn that he will get onto ( one previous instructor we did a lot on a raised bed and actively avoids it even in house)

next video also before comments so not importnat to watch. but it was a better tunnel exercise. Seems to be better when I have a toy which I find a little strange as the toy increases arousal but suppose balanced by also higher value. He was hyped inthis session but working hard to hold together. will try to move more next time

Thanks for that.

I find it hard to work out how to push myself out of the comfort zone but not do the same for him. He is quite inconsistent at the moment – better than being consistently over. I do find it interesting he settled with the toy even though toys send high higher but that also have higher value. He is not really good on food scatter.
