Somehow my post this morning didn’t go through. So… Once again. It’s been so hot we haven’t been able to train much. We got out this morning to do the RC challenges. She was a bit slower on the first one, as she had slipped in the tunnel. The ends had been down, I think humidity ☹️ She knocked the bar because of my bad toy toss. Not her fault. The reverse side, I couldn’t figure out why she was choosing the backside, then we realized the middle jump was on the wrong angle. It was then just too hot by then, so I’m just sending it anyway. I think it was still a RC?
I’ll add, she had some off the property training which was good, she is easily excited by people and dogs. At our club run thrus, just a low jump, with lead out, to full size dogwalk, which she took ahead and did a nice 2 on 2 off, stayed for a tossed treat, then to a tunnel. It was a very exciting environment. Then at the puppy class we are making up from before she was hurt. Lots of little pieces, much she already knew, but in a different setting. All good ☺️ Here are this morning’s vids.

    Good morning!
Yes! Cuing the other side! Now, back in the last class we did tunnel threadles and she easily learned, “through!”, for that opposite side. See, too much info for me to remember! Now I need to try that. Which I will before going on to that, bonus” material. It’s brutally hot and humid already today though ☹️ Maybe one quick shot at it. Thanks!

    Good morning,
Yes! This makes total sense. I read this after I had tried the next game yesterday. I am sending that video first. The next three are from today. I think you will see a big difference with less arm/hand motion. A big improvement to me when watching it. Now, I must preface today’s videos with a couple things, yes she was slower at the last one, it got very hot early. Plus, a big plus, we got the lure machine out this morning for a bit of race training which she hasn’t had until today. Way late for our dogs. That’s why she grabbed the inflation and ran off to where she last chased the lure to ☺️ Here are the videos…

Sigh… Well, after walking it without a dog twice and doing it with Biscuit twice, which he was great the second time, but not the first. The first time I realized I totally messed him up. So, on to Kishka. I wasn’t thrilled with the results, maybe you have advice. I need to be more consistent with my verbals, that I know. It was way too hot and humid to do anymore. We were both done!

Yes, sans dog ☺️ Good idea though to try it with Biscuit first. That will be my plan. Though he has few verbals the most part. Probably one of the reasons he often chooses on his own! Better plans for Kishka! With the teeter, at a medium height, in the barn, we tried out our new, “teeter!”, word. That resonated well. Better than bang! She’s solid on the contact, and stays for treat tosses, and needs a clear release before she moves. Hopefully back outside to try the “fluffy” BC.

Thanks! I will try that in the next game, which I’m currently struggling with getting it right in my head. I’ve read the instructions and watched the videos twice. The weather isn’t cooperating, so it will give me a day or two to mentally process it! Handling isn’t my strong suit! I will be doing this next game sans dog a few times!

Great! Yes, I see that, for sure. I tried to think on that with the next two games. With the timing one, no video, Paul was running errands, but we breezed through! She totally remembered yesterday’s training, and adding more verbals, consistently, helped. On to the concept transfers, wraps. I was really pleased with this session! These were just fresh, one side each. She just loves that choo choo choo! We haven’t used it since winter training. It’s the best cue ever! Here are the videos. I opted for food over the inflation or tug, better focus.

Let me know what you think! We were thrilled, but I may be missing something.

Oh, I did work from both sides but pared down the videos because they got too lengthy.

    Greetings.
Dogwalk, contact target training went well! No video though. On to this week’s first game. I’ll add the videos in the progression we went. This was about 20 minute’s worth of training. I tried to keep my arm low and with more face/eye connection. She seemed to get it!

Let me know what we can improve on!

    Good morning,
Yes, verbal for the object. “Wait” is what I use for all bottom contacts. I will start with “teeter” next time we go on.

For the DW, I will start with working that today! It’s currently brutally humid right now, but I can break out the target and clicker and just play with it inside for now. I did watch a video on a similar method as you mention, so it’s quite clear what you mean. And I’m caffeinated enough at this point to understand!

I love that water bottle bit! I can wait to try it when it becomes part of the class. It sounds like it will be the right thing for my excessive hand raising! Thanks.

I have another, maybe odd, question. I have no verbal for the teeter. My others, I say, “easy”, that’s theirs. I tried, “bang!”, with Kishka, and it was a disconnect. Not sure why. Now I say very little, until “wait” at the end. At this point, unless I lure her off with a treat, she just stays there, 2 on 2 off. Same with the AFrame, there I’m using “up”, like the others, and “wait”.

Good info here. Yes, keeping my arm low is always a unconscious issue. I never know I’m doing it until I see videos. I need to work on that! I will set this game up in a day or two with the big tunnel, in the pasture.

Dog walk. Yes, she had jumped off, a couple times while it was low. And turned around on just the plank on the porch. She is target trained, both with a floor one (pot holder), and I have the MM. On all contacts she is pretty solid until a release, sometimes even just staying until I throw a treat. I’m still open to any advice for letting her run ahead and wait. I’ve been trying to stay with her. Things can certainly change in competition! Biscuit used to have a solid AFrame contact 🙄

With the teeter, we have been progressing slowing for many months on this. First with the Cato plank with stand, then to the big teeter ( Max 200) one set up in the barn. Slowly building more height. We don’t have a way to keep the end up, so we will skip this game, as she is progressing well and really running, hitting hard, and solid 2 on 2 off.

Okay, onto the one step connection. I seriously struggled with this. Not the dog, me. I walked it and talked it numerous times. Paul and I read the diagrams, watched videos and… So this was the result once I got Kishka involved. Several short videos. The one thing I had a problem with, hand use. It seemed the opposite from what I should do. I get it, really I do! Help!

    Greetings!
I set this up the right way today, a bit more open. She is definitely better, no surprise, off the left side. I tried to just keep quiet, but moving and trying for her eye/focus, which she did finally connect with.
I’m also going to add her, um sort of advanced plank game, with this explanation. During the winter into early spring we put the dog walk plank on the front porch, so she had lots of experience on just the plank, then raised up on 4” blocks. So… we moved onto the practice dog walk set low. I added a video we took a couple weeks ago.

I will add to this, we have worked on 2 on 2 off on all the contact equipment. Extra low. She’s pretty solid on that. I know running contacts is all the rage, but I need more thinking time, so like 2 on 2 off! I hope I’m not getting too far ahead of your plan!

Doh! Right! How did I mess that up? I watched your video numerous times! Now I know the reason there was a lack of flow, and a, “what happens next?”, on jump two, for both of us. If it ever stops raining, we will go to advanced level today.
