ParticipantI started this with a tug. She lost her mind and focus. Back to treats. I can’t quite “turn and burn” in the space I have. So a turn, sans burn 😉 We we’re pretty rough. There were a few good elements here and there. Tomorrow I will try again with a tug. It was a more, “low level” one I used, but with no exercise today, her tiny brain overloaded 🙄

ParticipantHere is our backing video. I had worked a bit to a plank, then the tippy board. She’s always been comfortable on the tippy board as they had it in the puppy yard quite often.

ParticipantOnto hind end awareness. We struggled in the early stages of this, as standing as you directed, as she’s been taught to go around, then through my legs when I stand that way. Confusion abounded. I changed not only tactics a bit, but location in the kitchen. So she was standing on the tile, with a small area rug behind her. She just naturally backed up! I praised and treated. It took only a few minutes and she understood. I was thrilled! Shaping at its finest. That was earlier this morning. I added the Klimb mat and had Paul video this afternoon. Even with a momentary bit of sniffing ( I put the toys in a new box, a brief distraction), she came back and offered up a couple more. This was very exciting for me. I will put this away for a couple days for it to ruminate ☺️

ParticipantWe will work more on the blind cross this week. I will approach it from totally a flyball recall with a twist, with no other elements, like videos. For now I’m letting it rest☺️
Onward. She was on various objects comfortably, at different angles, no issues there. They used to blast over the wobble board all the time, like it was nothing, fit paws equipment too.
She had been on the small plank I have numerous times, so Paul brought up a plank from the dog walk and put in on the porch, raised up just a bit. She was actually more into doing it than the treats. My clicking and treating was late most of the time anyway 🙄 Good thing my dogs are trainable.

ParticipantGood morning.
Outside, new exciting tug, all just too much for her tiny brain. She is easily aroused. No, she likes being held and is cool with doing flyball recalls, why I thought this would work. I’m just not fast enough, plus Paul’s timing was off on the release *and* he was trying to video. Lots of misfires. Anyway, inside, with only two treats, no tug, we were quite smooth, and she more focused. They were on a variety of surfaces as little pups, including the round tippy board, a plank, etc. I will get the Klimb out today and do that, cookies *in hand*.

ParticipantWe will continue to work out blind cross. Paul also wants to try this with Chitlin, with a low jump.

ParticipantToday we attempted the blind cross outside again. She was a bit cranked up about this tug. Paul holding didn’t work great, plus he couldn’t video.
Here is our “goat trick”. She took to this pretty quickly, but she(and the other pups) had cardboard box training at about 5/6 weeks. So she had early training. But I picked something she never saw.
Cheers!

ParticipantWith this I decided, in the way I had done with the other dogs, to, now that she gets the concept, not to reward when she went behind. She clearly understood what I wanted.
Back to the two tug thing. Nope, a bit of success but when she wants one tug, she wants it. Not excited talking, shaking etc changed it. Two inflations a bit better, but ultimately food works at this point. On to the next games.

ParticipantSo…outside, with the little ball, no go. No real exercise yesterday meant total yeehaw, running a million MPH. No focus, just running. Been there, for 10 generations worth 🙄 Back inside we regrouped. Better. *I* finally got it, with much coaching.
I thought this looked better today. I will send the two bowl with an upright in another post.

ParticipantYes, we had a nice, quiet night with the pack. A big day.
“away”! Yes! That’s it! I just read this to Paul too. Then he demonstrated it perfectly on both sides. That one word hit my brain. Not turn left or right, away. 👍👍 it’s cold, but sunny, so hopefully it will warm enough later to train and video. I’m excited to try. Plus I want to move the the next games. Thanks!

ParticipantOkay, the blind cross. I guess I left out that if I went outside for this, that was an important missing factor. That’s why it would be hard with a small treat. So, I will try both with a tiny toy first. I think that will work. Paul holding would work too because he can yell, “You are turning the wrong way!” 🤣🤣 So on tomorrow’s agenda.
Today we went to a CWA meet not far from here, for visiting and puppy socializing. She even got a tiny chase on the lure. Lots visiting, some tugging, some treating. So a mainly work free day. I’d forgotten I do have another longish, fluffy tug in the Expedition, so that’s also on the agenda. I want to get these going well before the next game. Have fun watching the NOTRA meet. That’s even more fun as a spectator.

ParticipantThe two toy swap. I watched the video and I clearly need two more similar tugs. Why I opted for two inflations. Two new tugs would change the whole picture. More tugs! Yay! Clean Run, here we come. In the meantime I will try with the inflations again(I have one with a length of fleece) with more jazzing up. Also, per the video, we have the same Jotl ☺️ Thanks for the feedback! If you don’t respond until Monday, no problem! It will be two long days there in FL! I will understand!

ParticipantHave fun! I do miss racing, as it’s been a part of our lives since the late 70s. Live changes, now an agility focus ☺️ Kishka is actually going to a local CWA meet today for a bit of socializing and (hopefully) a bit of focus training. Anyway…
Tomorrow we will work on getting the bowl game standing. We both watched the blind cross video and I struggled (no puppy involved yet) with it. Paul got it, and was able to tell me where I was wrong. I often get the wrong hand, or turn the wrong way. Now, since my space inside is limited, but a small treat will take time to find, might a tiny toy work? Since she has a good ball to tug, and it’s mainly me getting the footwork down. Though something like a Charlee bear would be okay, as it’s easy to find in grass.

ParticipantShe is doing pretty well with this. Making a few right choices. In the end there was even a bit of distance between me and the pole. She made some good choices before making the wrong one, so I just brushed it off and ended it. The agility equipment is in the barn, so also has some intriguing smells. Plus, maybe some tasting. Send to target was very nice this morning. Only a couple reps and done.
bitterblue1954
ParticipantShe is pretty intense about this, but I don’t think there is a connection being made. Food seems to work better in some things.
