ParticipantI can definitely show you the step by step process. That being said, I want to make it as easy as possible for Zoe. She’s an older dog overcoming her fears regarding the teeter. I like what I saw with the Pin Drop Game. Are you okay with continuing with this game to build understanding and value for the end behavior?
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantEnd behavior training looks great! Nice job rewarding him to encourage the weight shift!
Is it possible to move your board around the practice in different locations inside and outside of your home?
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantNice enthusiasm on your part! I recommend rolling the towels up more or placing more under the ends of the board so the tip is minimal. To truly address the dog’s discomfort and worry, you have to make each step super small. Sparky still hesitated to get on the board, then eventually did because of the food. That doesn’t mean he is okay with the tip—it just means he wants the food that badly. Also, sometimes dogs will do things for us even when they are really uncomfortable. Let’s make it even easier for Sparky. 🙂

ParticipantThat helpful! We will still do some of our training on a hard surface in the future so that we can help Sparky get comfortable with the noise the teeter makes by moving.

ParticipantBrilliant! She looks comfortable even with the banging on the hardwood! 🙂

ParticipantHi Fei!
Are you asking for a step by step video to teach target training? Just want to clarify.
These videos show a really good start! Zoé will learn to hold position at the end of the board the more you reward her there. Keep practicing! 🙂
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantYou’re so very welcome!

ParticipantSo in the first two videos, I didn’t seen anything that tells me he is concerned about the environment. He is coming off the hoops in the second video only because you are turning before he is committed.
Third video- I don’t think he needs to go out to go to the bathroom, necessarily. It might be a learned behavior to avoid being in the building. Does he do this anywhere else? Such as a trial? Or a seminar?
Since Tanner is happy on his boards, I would like for you to play with these in the club, for now. Also, take the boards out into the world and play on them in different environments: parks, peoples’ homes, other training clubs, etc. And for now, do not put Tanner over the whole teeter. Play the games from the beginning and I will tweak each game for you, depending on what I see. 🙂

ParticipantHi Sue! Please post anything we do in this course in your original thread. It helps to keep things organized for me. 🙂
Yay! I’m glad you guys had fun! That’s the point! It looks like you’re playing on a rug. Try it hardwood or tile flooring. You can decrease the tip if you think she might worry about the pitch of the tip as well as the noise by rolling up a towel and placing it underneath.

ParticipantGood job helping him out when he got scared. I think you are fine training on the Wobble Board. If you want to borrow the mini-teeter, feel free. Don’t start training on a low teeter just yet. We have other games for that! 🙂
You can also put a rolled up towel under the Wobble Board to minimize the tip. Over time, you can unroll it bit by bit, until Sparky is more comfortable. 🙂

ParticipantHi Fei!
Definitely don’t raise the fulcrum just yet. At 12 seconds, as Zoe starts to go past the middle of the min-teeter, it moves, which causes her to jump off the board. The current fulcrum is perfect. And I’m glad you are doing it on the rug!
Keep practicing this game. And toss the toy off the board more often.

ParticipantYes, the video of his behavior in class will be helpful to view.
Any thoughts on what makes him act “at little weird at times” in the club? What does that behavior look like?
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantWelcome! I would love to be able to help you as a working student. Is that possible for you at this time? That way I can watch videos and give you feedback.
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantLucky you! Yes, there are mini-teeters you can make that are much shorter. You will see a video of my dog on a mini-teeter in Assignment #2.
Bobbie Bhambree
ParticipantNo worries! Is Tanner a bit nervous in different environments? Such as at the training club in general? Is he more comfortable in bigger spaces than smaller spaces? How is he with unfamiliar people and dogs?
