Hi! Marvel is only 7 pounds so I totally get it. I use the kibble in a lot of Marvel’s training when teaching new skills at home. I save the high-value food items for when we’re out in the world. So I end up using Marvel’s dinner for much of his daily training.

In addition, I have found that freeze dried treats work well. They are low-calorie, can often be broken into tiny pieces, and have just one ingredient—whatever the protein is. I like Fig & Tyler (https://www.figandtyler.com/), Stella & Chewys (https://www.stellaandchewys.com/freeze-dried-raw-for-dogs/), and Open Farm (https://openfarmpet.com/collections/freeze-dried-dog-food). Plus, Stella & Chewys and Open Farm are both freeze-dried raw so I use them as part of Marvel’s meal as well.

Hi Julie. I don’t know how to help you. 🙁 Is there someone you can ask? It should be able to just download onto your desktop.

It depends from dog to dog, context to context. I’ll give you a personal example. Topper practices the Relaxation exercises ringside now. It took a while to be able to get him to relax by the ring.

She looks so relaxed! I love it!!

You can post daily or you can post every few days, in terms of the Relaxation Protocol.

No need for a video for the sniff walk. But yes, I do want to see a video of the Snuffle Mat.

Are you practicing the Relaxation Protocol in different rooms of your house?

Yes! Reward multiple times. Make sure to move somewhat slowly so that you do not excite her. 🙂

If she gets up when you move, and you have to return to ask her to lay down again, don’t reward that down. Otherwise you are rewarding both getting up and laying down. I am okay with you asking for her to lay down if she gets up–I want her to offer it in the beginning on her own.

If she gets up twice when you move, then perhaps break down your action in smaller pieces. For example, when you tried to walk around Lit’l Bit, she got up. Instead, walk a quarter way around the table, then return to reward. Repeat this step a few time before walking half way around and then returning. Make sense?

I’d like you to just do 1-2 runs per day. In addition, about 15 minutes before each run, do the Snuffle Mat exercise.

Remind me as we get closer to the trial date. I want to make a whole plan for you for the trial weekend.

    Any seminars coming up? Class?

Low table is a great idea! Also, I don’t want you to ask for a down. Just give her the opportunity to choose to lay down. This is one of the ways she will start to relax. By placing the treat on the mat, it will encourage her to lay down. 🙂

Great! Starting next week, I would like you to do this in class. Any trials coming up?

    Relaxation Protocol video
Can you play the audio file on a laptop or computer so that you can video record on your phone at the same time?

Also, if it’s easier for you, you can place the mat on the couch and have Lit’l Bit lay there. I would like to see her in a down position. This will happen if you are placing the treats on the mat.

    Snuffle Mat video
I love it! This is what I want to see! She is focused and interested in the Snuffle Mat, but not frenzied when rooting around for treats. What treats did you use?

Next- I would like you to move the Snuffle Mat a few feet closer to the action. Are dogs set up in crates? What does the rest of the space look like? Once she works through the Snuffle Mat 4-5 times, put it away and bring her back to where she usually spends time. Does she seem more relaxed? Also, where does she stay when it’s not her turn?

You should be able to use any computer, laptop, or smart device. It’s a link to the audio files. Do you have a laptop or desktop computer?

That’s awesome!! Love that she is settling into the behavior and loving it! That’s the whole point! 🙂

The regular mat is for laying down and settling (like when you might lay on a yoga mat), whereas the Snuffle Mat is for sniffing and rooting around for treats. Make sense?
