ParticipantHi.
Here is Mochi barking. I’ve got my hand in the toy box where the dog balls are. 😉
She sometimes does this during games like ‘It’s your Choice’ or if I don’t give her the tug soon enough.
Thank you for helping me figure this out.

ParticipantHi.
Mochi has started to bark at me for not starting the game fast enough? Not giving/getting out the toy fast enough? Not giving her the treat when she thinks she should have it?So far I turn my back on her or turn my head away from her until she stops.
Could you please give some suggestions to stop this behavior?
Thank you

ParticipantHi.
Sorry this went so long. My timer failed me, but I could feel the last rep was over.
We’ve been working on toy to treats separately and this is the first time we tried to use it in a session. Before I videoed this, the toy won out over kibble so changed to meatballs and was pleasantly surprised.
Watching this back, my mechanics felt awkward even though I practiced with out her. And I can see myself a few things to improve upon: Make the transitions quicker, make sure the meatballs are thawed out so she eats them faster ( duh ), get treats out of plastic bag so no noise, perhaps try to release as I present toy instead of waiting.
Gosh, the older I get, the harder the mechanics become 🤪.
I’d been taught previously to start a session with play, shape, end the session with play. But I can see a real benefit to switching back and forth, keeps her engaged, energy high, fun break between cookies…all the benefits you mentioned.
Oh. And she did Not puke! 😎
Thank you. Barbi

ParticipantHi.
Thought I’d share some of my struggles here. Maybe I’m not the only one struggling with these things. Tracy and I have already talked some of these issues. The plus side of my struggles is it forces me to have short training sessions, have a plan, reward efficiently, try to be really observant, improvise.
My girl seems to get full, lose interest, want to move onto something else, has trouble switching from toy to treats and back.
I’ve observed:
When she’s hungry she’ll exchange toy for tiny kibble up to a certain point. If I start with higher value treats, cheese or meatball, or switch to these, she doesn’t want to go back on the toy. At some point, she seems to have had enough of the food.
It takes her a long time to chew, even with tiny kibble. When I need to throw a treat, she can see cheese or meatball best, it needs to be big enough for her to see it. But then may be too big for her to chew quickly and fill her up.
Trying to balance times of day, quantity of treats, kind of treats, meals, quantity of sessions, etc.
Tracy, your ‘Puppy Shaping: Some Things to Remember’ is especially helpful.
Thank you.

ParticipantThank you again for taking the time to give such constructive feedback.
I’ll check with the vet on vomiting.
Here’s what I’ve observed.
She doesn’t puke after a meal or drinking unless she’s hot and drinks too much at once.
She seems to vomit when she’s not in control of her movement: riding in the car, riding in her Airline bag over my shoulder while I’m walking, circle work on the flat (I get dizzy myself if the circle is too tight 😉).
I noticed tonight she’s lost some front teeth, so maybe that’s part of what’s going on.She’s warming up to string cheese and likes meatballs.
Will do on the game. It’s exciting when you see their lightbulb come on!

ParticipantThank you for such great feedback. What an eye you have. I knew something was wrong at times but couldn’t pinpoint it. Will work on all.

ParticipantWill do. Thank you for the extra video. Very helpful.
It’s funny, when I first brought her home, 2lbs and Tiny mouth, I had to use a Cat foam ball and tether for her toys. Crazy!
It makes me giggle that she tries so hard to bring the toys back 👍🏻

ParticipantWe tried bowls with tiny kibble and was going well, then after several treats she vomited them all up. 🤢🤮
So I switched to toys. I’ve played the 2 toy game with her, but never shaped her/waited for her to choose the other ‘dead’ toy. I’ve always made one dead while making the other live. So this was new for both of us.
Compared to my other pups, I haven’t considered Mochi very operant. She gets full quickly, picky on treats, and sometimes vomits them up.
But as I watch this video, I can see her thinking and figuring it out. So maybe I haven’t figured out what SHE needs yet to be successful at shaping.

ParticipantBack again.
You said to use something totally non-agility related. So I’m using a silicone oven mitt.
She’s been very good at the prop game in the pregames.
Not sure what’s going on here. Not hungry? Gotta pee?
See above post for Drive Ahead. : )

ParticipantHey there. Here’s Mochi attempting Drive ahead FF.
She didn’t mind me holding her collar at all. 😊. I was only loosely holding on to it and she couldn’t wait to go get her tug.
She wouldn’t take food in exchange for the tug. I don’t think she was much into food this afternoon. I’ve been working on the word ‘Free’ to have her let it go and hold it still.
Towards the end my watch thought I fell 🤪, so I had to reset it before the paramedics came.

ParticipantThank you.
I do most things on my iPad. It currently runs iPadOS 15.4.1
Also have an old MacBook Air that’s a possible player.Your detailed descriptions gave me a great visual, and watching those teams will solidify that.
Will the Forum still be there after today? Can I go back and view their videos and print my feedback, later?
Thx. B
