Yes, as usual you are SO right. šŸ˜‰

I’ve been using the Same hand signal to train Mochi going around my back (like Carol and Sequel) and to sit between my legs, as I use for lining her up at my side to sit or a running start. So, no wonder she’s confused as for what I’m asking for.

And she’s sure telling me about it. 🤪

I’ve gotten much better at working with her barking. Instead of getting upset, I just try to figure out what’s causing it and fix it. You taught me that, thank you!

So is it better then when proofing All verbals to use the harness/tab and let them hear the word a few times before releasing?

Also, I googled Repair of a MM and found a piece of kibble lodged in the motor. Whew, saved myself $150.

Now that it’s working again, should I go back to what she knows or now try using her toy on the ground? The MM keeps her very thoughtful and the toy escalates her drive.

We’d love to have you come out here and give a Seminar. Could you possibly do that sometime?

    Thank you. B

We tried Sends and SERPs. We had a tough time cuz my MM failed. We tried to fake the beep and deliver into the MM cup, but that wasn’t work well either. It wasn’t what she was used to and wasn’t enough with the environmental distractions. And she wanted a toy.
So we tried to do it with her HR.

I didn’t set it on the ground cuz I didn’t want her to self reward if not right. So I threw it instead.

And you know, she perked right up and we were Both happier with the toy.

We had to refresh the Strike a Pose first. We had not done it in awhile and first time outside.

Then I had to tilt the jump just a bit so she could see the face more.

It wasn’t perfect but I think we made progress.

    Thank you!! BšŸ˜Ž

    Hi.

Rt Lft proof Mini Pini here.

We’re now taking all games possible outside. It’s harder. And I feel we’re off today. Also therefore a Big dog that barks at my neighbors and she will just Stop and listen and face the sound. But I get her back with play. And then we start.

We had to refresh this exercise. Then the turning away in 3 positions with No motion to help her ā€˜proved’ šŸ˜‰ difficult for us. But we got better.

We’ve been working on her going around me like Carol and Sequel, so she’s trying that herself a bit. But it’s not good enough yet to use it in an exercise.

I think some of the trouble we were having with her barking at me, was she wanted the toy. I had to but it out of sight, with the extender it’s hard to crumble up in my hand.

    Thank you. B

    Great!

So far, in heat, she’s been very sweet, cuddly, and willing to work/playšŸ‘šŸ».

Thank you for freeing us before from working on me touching her while training, lining up etc. Her harness with the short cut off leash is working very well for us.

She lines up well on each side of me, and the lining up between my legs is going really nicely. She’s now tolerating me over the top of her, holding her sit, while I walk away and then throw her a Catch.

She can jump in my arms while I’m seated in a chair now, although it’s quite a Jump for her. Once she gets better and stronger at it we’ll try a more standing posture.

The cot with a licky mat sounds like a good option. She eats her meals on one and we use one in local class. I remember we used to send them to their crates in between sessions, using Crate Games.

When I was videoing last, and working on setting up with camera angle etc, I saw Mochi at the top of my full height dog walk 😬 ( the down ramp is off and sitting on the ground ). Another time she was headed up the teeter. Now, I’ve blocked off both with BIG chairs, but in her new found boldness, she’s figured out how to go around those chairs. Yikes. But, I didn’t panic and just calmly coaxed her down the right way.

So a cot would be great if I can get her to stay on it. She really celebrates running around and jumping in the pool. I’ve started to take her to the pool as a reward when we’re done with a session, or in between sessions. The pool will eventually get too cold, though.

Even though we’re practicing, I don’t have any more videos to post.

I’m so glad you told me Mochi doesn’t need to be Perfect at any of this. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜Ž

Looking forward to class on Wednesday, I’ll be able to make this one. šŸ‘šŸ»

    Hi there.

Thank you for all your great input! We’ve been making some progress, I think.šŸ˜‰

We were at the Vet this week and she weighed all of 6.9 pounds. Woohoo!
Then yesterday I noticed she’s in full Heat, her first cycle. Is there anything we should do differently training-wise with her being in heat?

Mochi is definitely growing into her Spiciness. She sometimes jumps up to try and get her toy, before we start a rep etc. I’ve got it in my hand for ease of delivery, HR or favorite tug. If it’s in my pocket I can’t get it out in time to reward. The only thing I know to do is give her a treat for Not taking it.
I don’t want her to keep jumping up to take her toy. Do you have any suggestions?

For the Wind game, I used the HR and gave her kibble to leave it, just like you said. And outside of one blip, she got the idea and was able to leave it and work the game. Yay!

So, I’ve noticed it’s when she’s SUPER high, super stimulated, super aroused, that’s when she grabs for the toy and sometimes gets my hand. After a series of games, reps we just played fetch with her orange dumbbell. Then I asked for a simple behavior like right and she WENT for the toy, getting my hand. She’s so high she’s just grabbing at anything? Dogs don’t really get defiant do they?

Should I end our sessions by bringing her down with a Licky Mat? I’ve always used a fun game of fetch, just plain to give them some Non-thinking fun.

    Thank you. B

    Hey.

Trying to work out the ā€˜bugs’ in the Pill Bug game.

When I first brought her home as a young pup, we did a lot of circle work with this toy.
I remember she needed it to be in my outside hand to be successful.
But I see in the videos you open your shoulder to your dog and have the toy, deliver it from your off hand. So we were trying to work through how to get that.

Sending her around a wing works better for us than throwing a treat at this point in our training. Hope that’s ok.

    Thank you. BšŸ˜Ž

    Hi again.

Working on Turns out of tunnels.

Gosh, it’s hard for me….different from what I’m used to.
There’s no time for me to say Tunnel more than once and get out the directional, just not what I normally do. But if I can support her and maintain connection it works for her.
I just have to learn how and with more difficult patterns.

I didn’t realize until your last critiques how much she looks to me for eye contact and direction. Since I’m prone to running into wings etc 🤪 I’ll need to figure out the connection and path at the same time. One of my instructors taught me how to spot points to know where to go and when to turn, but now those spot points may be behind me.

Trying to look at her nose, such a cute nosešŸ˜‰, keep my arms/hands low and shoulder open to her.

A definite learning curve for me.

Trying not to say Ready nor switch hands with the toy.

    Thank you. šŸ‘šŸ». B

    Hi.
Set Point with Moving Target here.
Jumps still 3ft apart. She’s about 3 inches from first jump, last one may have been a bit more.
    Thank you! BšŸ˜Ž

    Hi.

We tried Wind again, with a MM and placed toy.

I forgot to bring out drinking water, hence the interest in the pool.

The MM wasn’t working properly. I’d press it when she saw the line but it wouldn’t beep or give a treat. Maybe we were out of range for it.

So I tried to a place toy. Sorry for the long video, it became an experiment in which toy and where to place it.

You were right, she was happy to leave it for cheese, I didn’t need her harness to make sure she left they toy šŸ˜‰

But I think the cheese in my hands could be the reason she didn’t complete her turn around the wing.

But weirdly I had to Tell her to Get It and encourage her to take it, except for the Holle Roller. Perhaps cuz that’s what we’d been using for Moving Target?
Since Posh has been coaching her, I expected Mochi to run and steal the toys.
Was pleasantly surprised she’d leave them, and didn’t expect her to need permission to take them. Weird, but in a good way.

I can see I didn’t always make her connection coming around the wing. And the only time she Didn’t look back at me after the jump was for the Holle Roller.

Please tell me what you think and how to progress.

I think we should take a break tomorrow or at least have a light day of training. Or do something super fun with movement where she doesn’t have to think too hard.

I’m try to fit her games in when I can as my fall adult dog classes are starting up. But don’t want to overload her or me. šŸ˜Ž

    Thank you so much, again!

    Hello

We tried some Smiley Face. 🤪

This was her first long curved tunnel. We practiced just this tunnel before we videoed.
I can see we need to practice it some more. I can also see I don’t have my arm, shoulder back towards her ā€˜collar’ like you said to do sometimes.
I think my timing is way off not sure if she’s going to make it through the whole tunnel and not turn around and come out her entrance.
So I’m guessing I need to go back to the shorter tunnel and not bend it so much?

Also, if I plan our pattern, I can remember my new Rye and Lev. But when I start ad-libbing, I’m not getting the right word out for the wraps…at least once I told her the wrong way but she went the right way. Although I may have to go back to a one word wrap, I’ll keep trying.

Started out with her Hollee roller tug, but switched to dumbbell. It’s easier for me and she likes it.

    Thank you. B

    Hello.

Last night before we wrote we tried some with the chair which led to my questions.

So I’d like to show you todays work.

I’m only posting chair on left. On right we were working through mechanics and we had some behavior on the left you should see.

Chair on Lev…she seems much more sensitive to have me touch her on her right side. We were both frustrated and I decided to stop trying to get her Lined Up and and accept her facing somewhat forward with just holding the leash. It seemed more important for us Not to be frustrated than to have her exactly where I thought she should be. I think you have mentioned that before too. šŸ˜‰

Once we did that it seems to go well.

I do think sitting on the chair has helped us/me isolate my non-movement. Although I can see moving my head to look at the path I want also gives her a clue, smart girl.
Kodie and Amy tell me my dogs follow my Visor/Hat Bill or eyes drawing their path.

So then we tried standing on both sides and that seemed to go well, trying to Not move.

I ended up cutting off an old leash short to attach to her harness. It seems best for me to just take that leash and not touch her at all. She doesn’t seem to mind that leash dragging along.

I’ll continue to work touching her, her harness while bending over her separately.
Also teach lining up between my legs. So far, standing for that works better than sitting in the chair🤪.

So I’m guessing our next step with this is to take it back outside with a real tunnel?

    Thank you very much!! B

    Hi again.

Please also see replies under Set Point and Proofing Wraps.

For Wind, I understand what you’re saying about getting the toy out faster. That it needs to be flying out in front of her so she doesn’t check back in with me.
It seems like she doesn’t look at the jump right when she comes around the wing and then when I’m sure she does the motion of taking my arm back to Pitch the toy makes me late.
Should I throw when she’s heading for the line? Find a way to quick throw? Maybe I’m just not that talented šŸ˜‰

Once we advance to the MM, I should beep when she looks at the jump, or on that line? Or just say Go…. And the beep timing is immaterial?
If we advance to the toy, just say GO……? Or do I need to add a Get It to give her permission to Get It?

    Thank you. B

    Ok.
I think I’ve worked something out with a harness and a partial/short leash that I can hold while standing up.
Even though we’ve worked a lot on it, bending over to hold her collar or harness with my hand sets her off, especially when a toy is involved and we’re doing an exercise.

We also tried the chair. Lining her up between my feet didn’t work very well, but I could line her up beside me. Her toy and treats are closer to her in the chair and she WANTS them. I can reward from the chair? If I want her to come out of the Tunnel and take the Wing do I get up and move the chair out of her way so she can see the wing? Or I don’t do the combination reps while in the chair?

I’ve always been a run with and motion handler. Sometimes I don’t even know I’m doing it. It would be nice to have things on verbals alone.

    Thank you. B

    Hi there.

Not sure you saw this reply abovešŸ˜‰

How often should we be doing this Set Point exercise ? Couple times/week?

    Thank you.

    Hi.

I gave her a big break and let her get in the pool while I was setting up for this. Actually she wondered why we weren’t playing frisbee in the pool, our primary summer activity.

We’ve been using the orange dumbbell when I have to throw something a distance. I’ve got an identical one in my pocket, but she’ll normally bring back the original fairly quickly. She’s also learned how to tug on one end while I hold the other and has stopped grabbing my hand instead of the toy. šŸ‘šŸ»

I can see once I started more motion I forgot to say GO. I forget she’s not one of my adult dogs and she’s new to the game. Oops.

Her glance to the jump happens Very fast. But I try to run a bit sideways like you do in the video, maintaining connection with her face.

I’m usually the one who throws the toy into the wing or crashes into the wing myself, so only once out of several reps , I’m giving myself an A+ for that. šŸ˜‰

Also, thank you for making these games more fun for both of us. She really enjoys Moving and gets bored with repetitive behavior.

I’m a bit leery about setting a toy out there for this exercise. I know she can do it with a MM, but I’m not sure she can leave a toy for that distance. What do you think?

    Thank you! B
