ParticipantHi.
It’s been cooling off enough, 90 degrees🤪, to go outside after the sun leaves my yard. Wearing these clothes for mosquitoes.
We haven’t worked outside since the weather turned HOT, so these are our first sessions for fall. I was pleasantly surprised at how well she did. Now that we’ve figured out treats, toys, routine, she’s gotten a lot easier to work with, and it’s more fun for both of us. And sometimes I don’t think she’s listening, sassing me and all, but she is with focus and some drive.
I didn’t try holding her with collar or harness as that hasn’t gone well in the past, as you know. Using my hand to get into position and saying Ready seems to work for us. Hope that’s ok. Although we had a few times when she started herself.
Right went better than left. I made the mistake of Assuming since right went well, Left would be just as good. But I think I need to back up a bit with baby steps on the left.
So, she seemed to prefer the wrap over the tunnel…weird girl. But maybe due to recent wrap practice with reward.
Thank you. B

ParticipantOh , yes. She’s a spicy girl…tells me off, yet always wagging her tail 😎
I haven’t weighed her lately. She’s been smaller and lighter at every stage than my older apricot girl whom she’s related to. And that girl, ‘Paris’, is about 12 inches and 9 pounds. So maybe Mochi is around 7-8 pounds.
She’s starting to get more muscle and runs like crazy keeping up with Posh, who’s pretty fast.
So. How often should we be doing this Spot Point? Every other day??
Watching the vid back it seems like she was tired on the last rep. Also I watched all the reps back frame by frame and I can see why you like her second to last, first toy reward, the best. 👍🏻. So much to learn.
Tnk u. B
I’m glad you think her form is looking good. 😎bsshay
ParticipantSo we only got these two sessions in today ( this and the one above ).
Set Point here.
Next week she’ll be 9 months. She’s around 11 inches tall under that hair 😉.
So the jumps are 3 ft apart and the MM/toy is at 9ft, 6Ft beyond 2nd jump.
Yes, that’s a measuring tape…that’s kinda how I roll. 😉
Bars are hooked into the 4 inch jump cup. Should I use pool noodles on the ground instead?First tried the MM and had trouble lining her up very close to the first bar.
I forgot to face forward, went rather sideways. Then I figured out how to get her really close to the first bar, but maybe too close? Watching it back it looked to me that she did better with a few more inches from the first bar.
It seemed like the toy kept her head down better.
I’m trying to look for what you described but I don’t think I’m very good at it.
I Totally forgot to toss a reward back to her. 🤪. Best not to take her successful stay for granted. Oops.
Can’t wait to read your feedback on this one so we can adjust our spacing, technique and mechanics.
Thank you. B 😎
Btw. We’re using ‘Good’ in class here to mean Hold what you’re doing Reward is coming.

ParticipantHi.
We watched the live class recording this morning. Funny, I kept looking to ‘raise my hand’ 🤪 but you answered most of my questions anyway.
I was going to try for a Working Plus live class slot, but couldn’t get on the internet when the registration opened. With what we’re doing now, I can see the benefit of your immediate feedback. Maybe next time.
So we tried Moving target with jump here. This is the only session we did and I thought it went pretty well. Didn’t want to belabor this cuz we were going to try Set Point next.
I think she likes her Hollee Roller. 😎👍🏻
Thanks. B

ParticipantHi.
I missed the entire live class.
Please tell me where to find its recording.
Thanks.

ParticipantGreat.
I forgot to ask you what to do if she breaks and goes for the toy?
In your video, your dog broke and you didn’t let him have the toy, and went back and restarted him. Makes sense. What if they actually get the toy?
Also, I have a commitment tonight and may have to leave the live session early, or miss entirely. Will watch the recording. 👍🏻

ParticipantTracy.
Here we are working through all 3 steps of Baby Moving Target.
I talked to you through the videos so I’ll try not to repeat myself here.
I felt strongly to protect her Stay, We needed to work through these with treats. We have practiced her waiting to get her toy on the ground from a sit or a behavior with varying decrees of success. My instructor here wants them to learn this with the toy on the ground right off the bat. But I find elevating it on something, like you taught us, gives her Real success.
And until these videos, we’d never tried dragging the toy while she holds her stay.
So, With a high value toy, I think she’s just not ready for this Moving Target game.
We hadn’t worked much with a Holee Roller, and if so it was the tiny one.
So I chose the Small since it doesn’t have a lot of value yet, and now that she’s bigger, she can get her mouth on it. 😉Watching this back, I’m talking too much again.
I was Surprised she was so successful!! 😎. They only time she broke her stay is when we muffed my treat delivery to her mouth and it fell on the floor. Oh, and on Video 3, at about 1:49, I could see her back paws twitching in anticipation to Get It! SO cute!
Are we ready to move to the advanced level with a jump bump?
Thank you. B
BTW. I’m getting much better at working WITH her excitement barking😉
Also, I’ve already seen the different ways you have me doing things compared to my local instructor is problematic. But it’s a group class and I don’t to appear to contradict her. So for now, while in class I’ll comply unless it’s a safety issue.

ParticipantVerbal wraps here.
We have been working on a wing in my in person class, so I used a wing here. When I watched it back I realized I had it turned around the opposite way 🤪. I’ll fix that.
She has more enthusiasm for this with a toy. Once we had the skill down with the treat, I switched to the toy.
This was the first time we got more distance other than right next to the jump.
And I must admit, I got greedy and went for more distance. It seemed she then needed a bit of help with the left.
Ten years ago I taught a Dig and a Check on my puppy. But I would muff it up and it became just Check for take the jump and come back to me. So I think it’s best for me to use two words which make sense for my brain, Rit,Rit,Rit…and Lef,Lef,Lef.
On the rep where she turned before the jump, my instructor here ( Not Kodie or Amy ), had us teach them to spin ‘Right’ and ‘Left’ right in front of our feet. So she may have thought we were doing that. I know😉, problematic.
I will be using ‘In,In,In’ for not taking the front side of the jump with a 360.
Thank you!
BTW. Still difficult to get the tug from her without trading for a treat. The only benefit is perhaps it saves time?

ParticipantHi Tracy.
Last week Mochi had 2 canine baby teeth removed.
This week I’ve been at the Oregon coast, 65 degrees 😎.
Consequently, we’ve done no training since our last post, and probably won’t be able to do more before our class is over.We never felt completely proficient at the advanced level of some of the Max Pup 1 lessons.
Yet I believe we are beyond repeating it. Do you think we’re ready for Max Pup 2?Also a few questions about Pup2.
It doesn’t cool down in Phoenix until October, nights. So we would still be mostly indoors. I’ve been using the biggest space I have…will that work with rugs? Don’t think I can get a 10 ft tunnel in there.
How hard is it to do the Live classes, tech wise… and do you think it would be too much pressure for us?
I’m having trouble finding the price for each level of MaxPup2?
I think that’s it. 👍🏻. Thank you. B

ParticipantWe worked on this yesterday too.
Again, the day before, I reverted back to old school, indicating she was wrong going for her leash. 😉
So I did what you said for my follow up sessions and it went well.
The first time she went back for her leash (I didn’t say or do anything) and she brought it to me…
Adorable.
So I said ‘thank you’, and instead of tugging just calmly asked her to release it, set it away from her, and let her settle into her sit, led out a bit, then tossed back her favorite tug as reward. And the look on her face was priceless…
“Oh, is that what we’re doing?”
After that she got it.
We had the barrel out in front of us , but just worked on that separately.I put the tug leash away, and work on the Lateral L/O with a reg leash.
Doing them separately worked well.
So two more things. We’re not concerned with speed at this point? And she doesn’t need to be perfectly lined up for these exercises?
If I put my hand down to try to line her up, she keep’s mouthing it like it’s something to play with. I think eventually I’ll need a way to line her up without my hand? You had mentioned before if I lean over her, she moves away…probably thinks I’m going to pick her up. None of my dogs like to be handled, or touched, or fussed with for the line up. And all of that means leaning over them. Hum……..there’s a pattern there.
Thank you again for helping me to be a better handler and doing so with kindness. 😎

ParticipantThank you for all your suggestions.
Yesterday we practiced, no video, incorporating all of them and she did great.
With your comments, I realized I was not giving her the Trade-for-Tug cookie until after she sat. 🤪. I knew something was off but couldn’t see it until you pointed it out. Yay!
Once I did exactly what you said and gave the trade cookie appropriately, she began snapping right into a sit, even without my que. Which I would reward back with catch often.
Your explanation of the dog thinking the behavior is over when they get the cookie is SO clear and makes so much sense.
I still sometimes revert back to old school methods automatically, like riding a bike. But you’re explaining the science behind the behavior really sticks in my brain. 👍🏻
I also tried a ‘mini’ hol-ee roller with a small tug bungee threaded through. It worked well and she loved it. She sometimes hesitates bringing back a plain ball or dumbbell, but for what ever reason with the tug bungee attached she brings it back consistently. Perhaps she knows there’s now something to tug with and that’s what she wants? Just bringing something back to have it thrown again doesn’t satisfy her. But my other dogs love just the fetch parts of the game. Not sure what I’ll use to throw out of a tunnel or at the end of weaves to get that explosive speed with her?? …when the time comes. 😉

ParticipantHey.
So attempting Lateral LO here.
This is Mochi’s new trial leash. So I thought we’d try it. She wants to tug on it which think can be good but then how to sort out the mechanics of her tugging with leash, remove over her head, sit stay other tug in pocket, make that work…you’re right, I need several hands.
Plus, then she needs to leave the leash tug alone and transfer to the toy I’ve got.
Lot’s going on here. Need to practice all that to make it smooth. And this is the First time she’s worn this leash or we’ve used it. I accidentally but the handle over her head instead of the collar in the second video. 🤪My other dogs don’t use this kind of leash.
Can I make things any more complicated?
Anyway once I figured out some better mechanics, it went smoother.
At this point she is SO excited to go a round that barrel or wing etc, I have to reward her stay More than releasing her for the exercise. But I don’t mind, she needs to be happy. And I need a reliable stay in the long run. 👍🏻
She seemed to do best if I tugged her in with the leash having the tug in my pocket then went from there. Do you have a better way to do this?
I think she’s getting the idea of the lateral send. 😎.
Thank you! B

ParticipantHello again.
A couple weeks ago ants let themselves in the front door and helped themselves to treat residue, remnants all over the floor in this room. After dealing with that I’ve been hesitant to put more rugs down.
But here we are. I cleaned the floor again, unrolled the rug, and drug a rug in from another room. Seems to be working, although I don’t know about throwing treats on the rugs.
So here we are trying the decel exercise. For whatever reason it was Really Hard for her to hold a sit stay today. So I had to work on that before we could do the exercise. Once we could do that, it seemed like the exercise went well.
She was pretty excited to work today. 😀
I had to try several things and discovered…
Sometimes it seems like no matter how long I make the tug, she wants the part next to my hand.
Sometimes the higher value the toy the harder it is for her to stay. And if I’m accidentally waving it, it’s even harder.
She prefers an interactive toy, rather than just retrieving something like my orange dumbbell. Lucky me 👍🏻. Although hard to throw a tug very far.
The time she was biting at my hands was with the orange dumbbell.
In front of equipment, she now knows we’re going to do something with it, and she’s excited to try…Catch 22…We want her to be excited but needs to wait.
I’m so lucky she can switch between food and toy, and prefers an interactive toy!I have turf instead if grass, saves tons of water😎. But it gets Very hot. So in order to get more room for this she’d need to be wet and after is off of it. We both can only stand about 5 minutes out there with this heat….unless we’re swimming 😎. Although the water is warmer than bath water.
Since I can’t get far away with her stay yet, and she seems to be getting the idea of the going straight vs the decel in this room, ok to stay inside for now?
Thank you!

ParticipantHello.
This morning we tried SAP with countermotion just being stationary and not moving at all. So not thinking I did it right I re watched your video and read my notes from class. And tonight we tried again.
We had some difficulty with stuff 🤪. So I’m posting some troubles we had.
As earlier it’s sometimes hard to get the toy from her. It’s her FAVORITE tug and I only have one. I can see that as we got into the rhythm of the game she releases it better, especially when I started asking for a sit.
So all sessions up until this, even serps and threadles, have been tossing a treat. We’ve practiced our stays as a stand alone game, but never in conjunction with an exercise. So this was our first, video 2.
In between video one and two, I practiced a sit/stay, facing her instead of at my side and with this tug, two new things, so we practiced those 2 things first. Then tried a session with a stay, video 2
Then switched sides to her weaker turn and did another session, video 3. She seemed to have the rhythm of the game by then and Tug-sit-treat-wait went pretty well. Although I still need to reward her Stay often so far. But I don’t mind, she likes it.
And she went from arousal with fav tug to sit to wait to go. 👍🏻
So I found I had to keep my eyes on her landing spot/commitment to the barrel longer on her weaker turn side/left. Does that mean I need to go away slower or just keep my eyes and arm supporting her commitment longer as I go away?
Thank you so much. B

ParticipantHi. Rt and Lft with noodles here.
Pool noodles are at a premium here this time of year. I finally found a color that would work outside a den in…watermelon. 😉
She is nearly 7 months, 5.25 pounds and just over 10 inches at the withers.
The spacing seems good her and she’s not jumping too high.
Couldn’t find your example of doing FC so put one in where I thought you described.
Her training seems to be getting easier.
Thank you. B
