    Hello!

Here is new barrel work and increased impulse control. This was after the people drove up outside.

This time I used bigger pieces of cheese, didn’t touch her, like before, and a little higher value toy that she can get her mouth on.

I’m not sure we’re ready to try transfer of Rotated Sends. I think we may need more of the work separately with our prop and barrel work. ??

BTW. We saw the Vet yesterday. Mochi’s still puking but not near as often. Vet thinks she’s fine and will grow out of it. Or perhaps if I stop driving like Mario Andretti in my van 🤪

Also. I don’t have an agility ladder. Should I put something together that works like. Ladder for her?

Then the collar thing. We do our collar protocol nearly every day and it seems a to be going well. But at some point, unfortunately not on camera, I forgot and grabbed her collar and she didn’t like it one bit. Yet in this vid, I can see about 35 sec she actually turns herself into my leg which to me is progress.

I’ve been thinking about my other dogs on the start line, none of them, not even my superstar, want me touching them, moving them around, placing them on the start line. They all like a swing start the best and are more motivated and run faster when we use it.

    Thank you. B

    Trying to catch up 👍🏻.

Here we have first attempts at baby running contacts. I know she shouldn’t be looking up at me. I think my timing is off?

    Thank you.

    Hi.

Here we have first attempt at Rocking horse.

At 1:44 I lost her for a moment. There are French doors there. I don’t think I’d ever had the blinds open and she saw someone drive up.

Also, she’d never seen the second barrel before. The original one is the end of a Pack and Go chute that I cut the chute of of.

    Thank you.

    Hi there.

Great class last night. I learn so much from watching everyone. And they make it look so easy.

Being out of town, we haven’t trained in a Week😳. She did really well on the trip and was really in her element at the trial. Our only challenging moments, just 2, were when we unknowingly got too close ( a few feet or more ) to a car or crate with dogs in them. They barked at her, we got distance and she was fine. 😎

So we have some parallel path and Serp transfer here.

Perhaps we can get outside and get more space, although the distractions will increase.

On the Strike a pose, I was pleasantly surprised at how it went. It was a week’s latent learning for both of us. I think my mechanics improved, larger easier to see treats, tossing better, looking at the target. Perhaps I can sit now or get even higher?

    Thank you.

    Hi.

Thank you. I do have some questions on the pattern games.

    The basic game goes well.

When we get into a new environment, no people or dogs, she wants to explore and check everything out before she engages with me for the game. Comes and goes for the game. Then eventually settles in to the rhythm of the game. I only stand there and let her go as far as the leash will take her. I don’t ask for any behavior, just say Get It for the treat. That’s ok?

Sometimes if she notices something unusual she’ll just stand or sit in front of me, or front side, and watch/observe. And just stay there. Is that ok? Should I try to get her to re-engage?

Thank you for your suggestions for class. When we first got there tonight she was SO excited/over stimulated she didn’t want to take treats or play with a toy. People, other dogs, big dog barking at us through fence from next door, airplanes over head, other dogs barking in distance. As class started and we settled in she was able to engage for the pattern game. So we did that A LOT during the whole class, when waiting our turn for something or sitting and listening etc. For individual work I took her FAR away just like you said. She still noticed others but was able to engage with me. We kept things short and had play breaks. When waiting our turn for a recall, some shade draping on the fence blew hard in the wind. She turned and stood and watched it. When she was satisfied she re-engaged for our pattern game.

Treats were the winner over any toy.

Overall I think she had a good time. Your advice was Spot On!

    Thank you. B

    Resilience training here?

I took Mochi with me on a couple shopping trips. Home Depot and a different local mall. This mall is indoor, fully air conditioned and they let us bring our dogs. Lots of people, strollers, wheelchair, bags, kids. And a Glass Elevator. She walked at the crowded mall and did fantastic with everything going on. Only thing she didn’t like was a steep stretch of many stairs so I carry her for that. But seemed to Enjoy the Glass Elevator. And loves riding in the cart.

This weekend I’m doing a 4 day trial in CA. It will be her first road trip and hotel. She’s not very quiet in her crate sometimes so we’ll see how this goes.

Also it’s a two ring trial and I’m running my 3 other dogs at 2 different jump heights. Not sure how much training I’ll get in with Mochi. Maybe just being at a trial experience.

So, I’ll be starting to get her out with a baby class. She’s so social I’m a bit concerned about getting her to work with me. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Barrel Re-new.

With your encouragement I tried to put a new spin on the barrel.

No touching, no collar, no holding. Using a lower value toy and not yet letting her see me toss it.

I figure since we don’t have a stay, and I can’t hold her, it’s very hard to expect her not to run after a tossed toy when we play fetch for fun and don’t want to ruin my retrieve.

I’m guessing I need to work up to her seeing me toss the toy once she understands we go around the barrel first?

Anyway. On the whole I thought she was much happier with these new mechanics and is liking the game again.

    Thank you.

Strike a pose with a toy here.

This is a tufffy for us. I have so much trouble getting her to see, find, eat, the treat and come back it gets discouraging for both of us.

One treat, show her the treat, let her see it as I throw, that’s our best shot.

In order to be successful, I needed a lower value toy and had to put some peanut butter on the target to build up its value.

In between these vids we had discouraging session, she couldn’t find the tossed treats and just couldn’t get her in the rhythm of the game. So I regrouped, applied more peanut butter and tried again with a lot more energy, and tried to be very distinct with the treat I was tossing. She seemed to respond well.

    Trying rear cross here.

We’ve been struggling with her Not turning the right direction. Then I read and watched some of Carol’s thread on a Triangle front send followed by a rear.

So I tried a few triangles and then got this.

    It seemed to help

    Thank you.

    Tandem with prop here.

I could tell I needed to get my hands lower to keep her from jumping up. But I don’t think I got there until vid 2.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Gosh. I never thought I’d have so much trouble with a sit. She came to me with a default sit. I thought I’d Captured it. Then she spent 2plus weeks with my pet sitter and came back with out it 🤪. But thought I’d retrained it. Obviously not.

Perhaps she thought we were playing our ‘bits of reach for/touch/collar’ game. But even when I asked for a sit…. Geez.

We got the idea a bit better in the second vid.

We’ve worked a little on a sit and wait. But totally different way. If we can get this I know our stays will be better.

    Thank you.

    Hi Tracy.

Thank you for your patience and taking the time to help me with this.

I have been treating her when I put her collar on/off, but not doing the ‘collar grab’ and line up with it. It’s definitely a valuable life and agility tool and a hole in my training.

Your plan of breaking it down into tiny pieces is really good. I’ll try to follow it exactly and not skip steps.

This is all part of the start line process, and I need her to be happy and not stressed.

We worked on this today and made some progress. For cheese, 😉 she will line up next to/touching my leg and let my other hand reach over and around her while I give more treats. By tonight she was looking forward to the new game.

Working on the manners minder too. She ate lunch and dinner from it.

We feel behind, but we’ll work on as much as we can, at her pace. She’s such a terrific little dog, I want to do it right. And hopefully we’ll be the best team we can possibly be.

On a personal note, I’m 66 now, and get weary. I’ve only been doing this for 15 plus years, and even though I know more now, it all seems harder. I’m just not as physically capable of precisely carrying out the mechanics anymore. ‘Crate games’ 15yrs ago was a breeze, now much harder on my body. I don’t mean to be whiny or complain, it’s just the way it is.

You are a fabulous instructor and extremely knowledgeable about dog training, their behavior, and more. I feel so lucky to have a working spot. 😎

    Hi.

    Initial tunnel shaping.

She’s never seen a manners minder so we worked with that by itself. She’s cautious with it, sound and noise but will still take the food.

After a dip in the pool, she had some fun.

    Thank you.

    Hey.

We’re really struggling with the holding the collar part of the barrel game.

We tried a higher value toy and she wasn’t too hungry.

We taped each try separately. The only thing you’re missing is me starting or stopping the camera.

I’m showing you different things that happened. And different things I tried. In the first video she even tried to bite me😔. I tried a harness with the same result.

It seemed to me the higher value the toy the worse she was when I put a finger in her collar. I did move her collar, just held on while she thrashed. If I showed her the toy before I threw it, she was worse than if she didn’t see me toss it behind me.

She seemed to respond better if I tugged, then held her body while I took the tug, and let her eat a treat as I then moved my hand up to put a finger in her collar.

It makes no sent me. I’ve never grabbed her collar and moved her around. I don’t grab it at all.

I switched to a lesser toy that has more value than the one from yesterday. It seemed to go better.

This struggle with the collar has made the start of this game arduous and not fun for either of us. 😔

    Thank you.
