ParticipantTracy,
Working on lap turn to prop here. Tried to actually show them to her before I tossed them. I thought it went a little better. For some reason it’s easier to toss when I’m standing up.
She seems happy here.
Thank you.

ParticipantTracy,
Strike a pose 2 here.
I moved my dining room furniture to give us more room. No dinner parties planned😉.
You’re so right about the treats. We can’t get into a rhythm cuz she can’t find the treats. It’s such a struggle to make the treats small enough for her to eat them quickly and not get full, and yet big enough for her to see. Plus they get stuck to my hands.
Eventually there are so many on the floor that she missed, she gets rewarded more for cleaning up all the treats than she does for playing the game.
But we do manage to get some of the game played.
Thank you.

ParticipantWe’re back! First try at Barrel with Send.
Our weather suddenly turned like it’s August instead of May. So I’m trying to do more inside.
We got pretty proficient at the barrel with food. This is the first time I added a toy to the picture.
I decided to use a Very low value toy in hopes to make her successful. I’d never sent her to a toy after the barrel, just delivered a treat from my hand.
I was pleasantly surprised with this session. She was hungry and I believe the food outweighed the toy.
Unfortunately I can see I raised the toy up and made her feet come off the ground. So I need something longer or on a line.
Not sure how high a value toy to go to with this to start.
BTW. No puking ! 😎
Thank you.

ParticipantHi.
Here’s our first attempt at strike a pose.
I think perhaps I threw to treat instead of delivering from my hand. Does it matter?
Thank you.

ParticipantHi Tracy.
Here are our first attempt at lap and tandem turns.
I had practiced mechanics before hand and still stumbled a bit. I think I was trying to be precise with getting her 2 inches from me, but ended up less than smooth. And when you’re doing a dance move you want to be smooth. 😉
Thank you.

ParticipantTracy.
Thank you for the awesome feedback.
I’m glad I posted our struggling session instead of the lovely one. 😉

ParticipantTracy,
We just had a lovely session on this. I was so excited to show you.
But, camera placement didn’t seem to show enough so we tried this. And I decided to show you the meltdown instead of the good one.
We had a tough time here. She seems frustrated, and I can see why. Then she barks at me for the First time in a training session??
Also her head got higher and higher and she kept jumping up more.
Oh, and she puked after a few reps on the other side.
She didn’t eat much breakfast, was hungry and we did these two sessions after the one session of back up. Cheese on top of meatballs. Yum?!
Thank you. Barbi

ParticipantTracy.
Crooked backing up here. Should I care? Trying to line her up better. Also her head lifting to look at me?
Should I reward if she doesn’t touch the mat?
She’s trying with enthusiasm. 😎
Thank you. Barbi

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I can see and understand what you’re saying about all of these things.
When I first brought her home, I decided that the ‘yip’ was better for her than the clicker. And the first thing we worked on was eye contact, lots of eye contact. So I wonder if that’s part of why she looks up at me when I ‘yip’?
Today we worked on Prop Work, Balance Bone, and Wobble Disc.
Since she’s now liking string cheese, I tried it for the Prop game, and voila…she perked up, was more excited, and went faster. I gave her tug breaks and that helped too.
For the bone, she was more than happy to get on, balance, offered a turn around right and left, hoping off to get back on, with tug breaks. Having fun.
The wobble disc still has flat towels underneath it. She’s excited to get on, happy to stay, turn around, hopp on and off with tug breaks.
Tugging her into the room has really helped my mechanics.😉So, she’s also happy to tug on the wobble disc. You mentioned her correct position tugging on it. Can you please describe her correct position or how do I get her into that position?
Also, yesterday she did Not want me to take her collar, say to start the barrel game like some people did in live class. At one point she threw herself on her back when I took her collar. Ish!
But a little later she tolerated it for the toy race game. Weird.
Thank you for all your help.

ParticipantHey there. One final vid for the day.
We struggled quite a bit with this, this morning.
So tonight, after a dip in the pool, and switching things up a bit I believe we had some latent learning😉.
The two leaves mark our visual lines.
She preferred treats over toy for this, and some excitement from me. I think she likes chasing me around.
And I’m try to deliver the treats as low as possible to keep her from jumping up.
Did I tell you yet that I hate Quail???
Thank you.

ParticipantHi.
Just a bit of a rear here. I need to get her to go out in front of me and stop looking at me.
I was keeping treats in my hands, and delivering from my hands to combat the bird poop. If I threw it on the ground she’d then go looking for bird poop.
Did I mention I hate Quail? 🤪

ParticipantWell, you got me again🤪. I really had to think hard about my movement, which hand, arm, turn. I definitely have a better side…left to right.
On my not-so-good side I’d forget to switch the toy. I know she shouldn’t be jumping up for the turn, will have to work on that.
When I had my had my hand down for the turn, it was without a treat.
I can see I sometimes still whip the toy up too high.
We got up early this morning. And after this we struggled with unexpected birds and competing bird poop, even with tugging. Ugh, I hate Quail.
Thank you.

ParticipantTracy,
Trying to incorporate your suggestions for backing up. I’m starting to see how my ‘yip’ causes her to look up at me.
Thank you.

ParticipantHi again.
Baby retrieving here. She seems so happy. I normally start with lower value toys and work up to higher.
Thank you.

ParticipantAfter longing to follow the adult dogs into my pool, I gave Mochi her first orientation to where the steps are, a few days ago. Normally I go in with them first time, but the water’s still too cold for me🤪
WOW, great minds…I thought of getting her wet too. ‘Posh’ loves the pool SO much she gets to jump in for a reward, and to cool off, for training.
Mochi would only need to get on the first step 😉 to cool off, and she’s been playing on it on her own.
I can try getting up earlier and see how it goes. I tired this time of day cuz I had early adult dog class and an event last night.
Yes. I think she’s a lefty which is why I did the barrel game on her left. Will try her right. 👍🏻
Thank you. B
