ParticipantShe likes work more than toys and treats? That explains a lot. I’m sorry, BCs are so weird. Cute, but weird. LOL.
This is really insightful, I’ll have try to wrap my head around this, and I laughed when you mentioned we have to make her understand when we don’t want the work, I’ve been wondering about that, when I train something I typically can’t get her to stop offering behaviors and I wasn’t sure what to do about that. THE BIG MAD made me laugh. We really don’t want that!
Ok on to pattern games! Thanks so much. And I’ll watch for today’s game. I’d better get busy on this.
Thanks!

ParticipantI did figure out I could do the Shaping in Arousal Goat Tricks in the house as I had skipped over that. Not as interesting as a tunnel, of course.
Things are drying off, so I’ll try your suggestion about how to handle the tunnel and move on to volume dial game! Thanks!

ParticipantHow did you know I was freaking out? LOL. I mean, I know BCs do stuff like this, but she’s only 6 months old. Eeck!
I think most/all of this was lining up. I’m including everything from Friday, I know it’s more than 2 minutes, but it was having a hard time editing, giving you enough before and after, so here’s an index, I totally am not wanting you to look at the whole thing. If this doesn’t work, let me know.
I’m anxious to work on arousal management! I want to start now! But raining through Tuesday, so it will have to wait.
30 seconds – nips tunnel
2:14 – bites tunnel entrance
2:20 – tries to nip me – there are a few other tries there as well.I totally get her frustration, by the way, I was annoying, and she actually does better when I’m moving with her.
Thanks for your help and reality check.

ParticipantOn to tunnels. The first session with the treat and train I didn’t video, and it went smoothly. Yesterday I took out the tunnel, and forgot to use the treat and train, so I was just sending her through, and I filmed.
Big mistake was no collar. I don’t keep a collar on her because when playing with my terv, there’s lots of neck action. I should have put one on her for this exercise, I spent time trying to line her up, and she was frustrated. There was biting of the tunnel, nipping at me, and lots of barking. I was umm, surprised. That is not all in the video. FYI, she’s my first border collie.
This morning, took out the treat and train again, and things went better. I did, however, have trouble keeping her OFF the treat and train.
I didn’t have a short tunnel and I’ll need to up my game on the tunnel bags.
So I thought I’d show you this mixed bag of tunnel work. Mistakes were made.
Thanks.

ParticipantThanks! I figured I needed to change what I was doing on the rear cross, we’ll work this stuff again, it’s fun. Appreciate the feedback!

ParticipantHere’s some prop work, straight lines and rear crosses…..kinda. I started going back and forth on the straight lines, seemed easier. The rear crosses were kind of a mess. Maybe I wasn’t allowing enough space….couldn’t quite get it.

ParticipantJust a quick follow-up to the hind end awareness, I tried not to move, and tried a fit bone and wobble board.

ParticipantHind End Awareness
Georgie didn’t know where her rear feet resided. She found them while we were playing on the pods at the park. I don’t have video because I was too busy spotting here, but started the hind end awareness compilation video with a couple of photos. She was very proud that she learned to navigate the pods and didn’t want to stop.
Not shown in the video was the beginning of her backup behavior, throwing the food between my feet. We worked on that, then I started pushing into her a bit to get her to backup.
I’m glad she has found her rear feet! That should come in handy.

ParticipantI’d like to bubble wrap her now, she’s freaking me out. I’m going to have to remove the patio chairs, she just climbed up the chairs, I assume on to the table and ended up on top of the covered fire pit. I scooped her off of that before she could even think about jumping off. This can happen in the time it takes for me to go to the kitchen and back.

ParticipantThanks! I wondered if there might be a change in adolescence, in which I shouldn’t take anything for granted. I’ve been surprised at how she bounces back from her little crashes and unfortunate events. Outside the scope of this course, I have to keep her from climbing onto the patio table, she has nabbed all sorts of things including my iPhone, twice.
Yeah, she really got me, that toy actually is a lot longer than it looks, I just need to not bunch it up. In the meantime, I need to wear gloves. I was also a little surprised she didn’t like that first toy, she’s getting picky! She loves food, so I also wondered if that was what she was after…..but I’m glad I gave her favorite toy a try.
I pulled out two fit bones last night, and the nubs on those didn’t bother her at all, they’re smaller, so she was all over that. She was oddly suspicious of stepping on the disc, I have no idea why, it was nubby side down. But it was losing air, so maybe if I put more air in it, it won’t be so smushy. Or maybe she’ll get used to smushy.
Thanks, again, your feedback is always very helpful.

ParticipantSo I didn’t really ease into the wobble board, because Georgie climbs on all sorts of stuff, some that moves, some that crashes, some that falls, and then she bounces right back. On Sunday she climbed the patio chairs and stood on the table. Very goat like. And as I expected, she was fine with wobble board movement.
I suppose I should go back to food to get a little more control on that board, but she was having a good time, so something for the next session?

ParticipantOh my gosh, that never occurred to me. I probably started the pods with my last dog when she was older, with tougher little feet. And yes, she really is a little smartie pants.
I’ll try the disk and pods, thanks!

Maybe I should probably get the disk out instead. She’s too big to put both paws on one, but maybe too small to get them on two. But I’ll keep working it.

ParticipantFun! I’ll get out a cone, and work on this tomorrow! Thanks.
