I’m going to print this and put it in my agility bag. This is exactly what I needed to help me plan. I understand what you’re saying.
I really like the option about running with exposed toy in FEO till she’s solid and then hiding it till she’s solid. I’ll make it more training like initially and help her be right.

Thank you for this well timed class. I only wish it could continue when I can start trialing again šŸ™‚
Merry Christmas Tracy and thanks for all the great training advice again in 2021.

What’s next on AU? I feel like an AU junky, can’t wait for my next fix, LOL!!!

UKI trials are slim around here. I thought a new nearby facility would be a good option, but unfortunately the footing is iffy.
So can you help me with an AKC plan?
When I can do FEO with a toy. Should I release from the contact to the toy or stay closer to her and have a long toy with me and toss her end to her with a “catch”? Both?
The runs that I can’t do FEO, I can still “train”. I have no problems leaving early for good behavior if I’m making it clear to her that’s what’s happening. Could I use some remote reinforcement? SHe gets her AF and we leave to her cheese? Or when I’m comfortable that her leash is a reward I could release and run to the leash?
I also want a plan for if she doesn’t stop. I’m feeling pretty good about her contacts right now and I have a seminar coming up. Even though it’s home, she still gets rev’d up for them. So I can practice what I need to do. I think part of my stress is not knowing exactly what I should do if she comes off. I’ve been putting her back on but it seemed to just make her higher. As you can tell, she justs wants to run. I have SO much confidence in the JWW ring, I need that in STD too.

I pre-placed her lotus ball on the window sill before I brought her in so her first attempt she did not know it was there. She did know I put it out for the 2nd AF.

We played a hodge podge of games today. She has done the majority of these at some point though I’ve never proofed the weaves with that fav toy hanging down and it made her even faster and more focused to get to the end.
When you were doing your leash work, are you telling him to go to his leash at the end of his run or do you just run over with them, put it on and then ask for tug?
I had taught Ti the “leash” cue so that at the end of his run it gave him something more to focus on. If I said leash he would start looking around for it.

I want to keep working the leash and will start doing that in class. I need to do more trial like things in class. This course has really shown me that.
What else do you think I should focus on?
I’m not entered in any trials until February and can do some FEO runs at that trial.

Things are getting back to normal and while I haven’t had a chance to read week 4 yet this is what my contact proofing normally is. I’d say she is in trial mode. Turn your volume down😜
Next time I’ll do some remote rewards.

in reply to: Christine and Aussie Josie #29150

Here’s a short clip of her contact behavior with catch. Do I keep working the catch on her stay to reinforce to her that she can move?

I haven’t looked at any week 4 material yet but I feel like the main behaviors I should keep working on are the catch and turn back for her start line stay and for the contacts it would be catch and the remote reinforcement.

I played some more with the remote stuff and food goes well, the toy not so much and then doesn’t she bring it back right to my hands like I’ve been working on.
But the 2nd time she left it and didn’t go for it until I told her to. The next part though is – I do want a certain behavior at the toy. Is it unrealistic for her to sit? and I give her whatever reward it is? I’m going to have to work up to that. What about if I put the reward up on a window sill? She’d be less likely to grab it up there.
I’ve struggled with what to say for the remote reward. I love “let’s go”, but I use it ALL the time in everyday life. I used “boogie” tonight. Not sure I like it, but the hardest part shouldn’t be picking a word – LOL!!

By 50% on the contacts I mean she stays in position when I say “catch” vs coming off for the treat. It’s rare I can get her off 2o2o at this point.
And yes I understand (now) that she should be able to come off with “catch”, but she won’t.

I use “back” a lot for obedience and just conditioning stuff but not “turn”.

in reply to: Christine and Aussie Josie #29053

We’ve been spending more time on the catch. She still gets it every time in a sit, but about 50% on a contact. She’ll stand on her head to catch the treat and maintain criteria.

The placed reward on the wing was awesome. She had to think it through but finally got it. I can see how the self control piece. Will really help her as well.

I pretty much say ā€œget itā€ for everythingšŸ™„ I’m trying not to. I decided when I’m placing a reward behind her to say ā€œturn backā€ or maybe just turn. She was quickly getting it from a sit but if I get closer to the jump like I did today. She ignored it and went forward.

    Her list of distractions:
Pretty much anything that moves or makes noisešŸ˜‚
She goes nuts when someone uses verbals that she knows
I feel like I could list all her likes as well since they are also distractions.

She’s easily excitable, BUT I’ve also found when we’re working and we’re engaged with each other, she’s a solid worker and very little distracts her. The second we’re done though if I disengage even the slightest bit that’s when she’ll bugger off.
    She’s a good teacher😊

Ahhh – thank you:) Yes that makes perfect sense. I was focusing more on the release which both cues give her but not the where does she go/do with that release.

in reply to: Christine and Aussie Josie #28565

What is the difference between releasing with catch on the AF vs my release cue?
Bummed I’ll miss the next call. I’m picking up my new van then😁

in reply to: Christine and Aussie Josie #28503

She was putting a lot of thought into the remote game. Should she stay with it, come with me, wait while I go back to it. I think she tried every option😊
I often throw back a treat on her start line with a get it command. I am changing that to catch. But she’s used to that being her release. She thought for sure I was trying to trick her on the AF. Yes I’ve been doing a lot of proofing so I did use my release cue in that moment when I realized she thought I was tricking her by throwing the toy.

I’m trying to go in order and get caught up this week šŸ™‚
I’m going to get some video of a lot of this too.

I can tell you I’m stuck with bring it back only because she will bring it (toy or lotus ball) back but throw it at my feet. She wants a cookie for bringing it back OR she wants me to pick it up and throw it for her again. It’s a piece we have struggled with and it’s making the dumbbell retrieve a bit tricky as well, LOL!!
    Any suggestions?

I need to go back and read what you just wrote many more times. My head started to explode but you’ve given me some great feedback to think about.

I wrote this and then went and played. I left it all in there and some of it had me snorting when I watched it back. So maybe we have a bit more work to do than I thought, HOWEVER I had forgotten about this one particular toy. The one she wouldn’t bring back – the one she would not leave dead, LOL!!! I do leave her udder out and about and she leaves it alone but she plays with that all the time. This was special.

Also, her weave success rate trialing is near perfect since the beginning of the summer. It was an easy example to use and the few times she’s missed, they were scenarios that we brought home and worked on. If she were missing them even once/weekend that would be too much for me and I’d agree to not let it go.

I can get her to trial mode by leaving Reba and Ti loose while I’m training. They run behind the gates and bark like mad, she gets higher than a kite.
If I’m in a class/seminar setting then tugging brings her arousal up much more than if I was using food and a lotus ball. When I’ve done FEO with a toy, it’s hard to get her back working and off me if I’ve stopped and played. She wants to just keep barking at me. Some of that is the time limit too. I can get her back working and focused if we have the time.
Whenever we have to repeat something, I really get barking at me. I can’t even walk forward without stepping on her cuz she’s right in my face telling me I messed and I’m the reason we are going back.
I tend to not repeat things in trials, even the weaves. I just feel at this point if she skips a pole going back is only going to mess up the rest of her run. She knows her poles and unless something becomes a trial behavior I let it go.
At home when I need to repeat, I toss cookies on the floor as we walk back to where were starting. That has made the biggest difference in training. By the time we get back she is calmer and ready to listen again.
She loves doing tricks. Some of them will help keep her calm like chin rest, paws up, head down.
Others like back, get her all excited. Heck I can get her all wound up just by calling out her agility verbals, LOL!!!

Sorry this ended up being jarbled but it does give a good picture of what brings her up and what can bring her down.

Ranking her rewards was a bit difficult, she’s an easy date.

    Food:
    PB
    cheese
    meat
    soft treats like Zukes
    Kibble

    Toys:
anything Reba or Ti has in their mouths
    soft frisbee
    udder
    ball on rope
anything Reba or Ti has in their mouths

    Favorite activities:
Chase something like a toy or Ti
    visiting her human friends
    playing with dog friends
    swimming

    My wish list:

Transition contract criteria to the show ring.

Be able to enter the show ring on 4 feet instead of 2. At home we have a consistent routine of go through the gate (any opening) and she faces me and sits. I’m able to keep her on me with food before we go in the ring at a trial. It’s when the food goes away that we struggle. She loses her marbles watching the dog before us run so we stay back until it’s time to enter the ring.

I think her 2nd time in the ring she learned, leave the ring, food jackpot and now she is one of those dogs that would love nothing more than to plow through anything and everything to get to the “cheese”!!! She is not trying to leave the ring on her own and is staying very engaged with me until I open the gate and we leave. If there are friends outside the ring, she is more than happy joining them for attention and then moving to the jackpot.

My biggest takeaway from this game is her willingness to come back to my hand time and time again and yes she did get multiple cookies just for that. I feel like I’m constantly trying to walk that fine line of waiting till she can think vs waiting and just pissing her off even more. What I did notice was the few times I waited her out until she stopped barking AT me, she focused forward and was able to do it.
I really want to get through all the steps in this class even though I’ll run out of time for feedback. This is the stuff that’s going to make or break us when I try and do those hard ASCA elite gambles on top of just getting her more independent and off me so she doesn’t get frustrated with my turtle pace running around the course, LOL!!
