Little behind on editing. Here is rear cross on the flat. Usually I struggle with these exercises but i think you explained it in a way it finally made sense to me! (Well I guess we’ll see LOL)

Here are two session of handling combos. We did the first session at one of the local training areas yesterday and tried it on a cone for the first time. Second session was at home today and a lot harder this time so we really didn’t do much for combos lol. More just trying to wrap and not get the toy. I rewarded the reps she didn’t just go to the toy a lot but cut that out for time. I also did add in verbals during this session.

Here are serps and threadle foundations. She didn’t quite understand the concept but picked it up as we went on.

Here are Startlines. We have worked on these. Her cue for a startline is “On your mark” and release word is “break.” I am trying to add some reward marker words and this is my first time ever using the word “chase” LOL. It’s also our first time throwing the reward backwards so not sure if I did that sequence of everything quite right.

    >Have you decided what you want your wrap verbals to be? You can start adding them!

Great I’ll start adding them. “Check” is wrap to the right and “Dig” is wrap to the left.

    >Have you started thinking about what you want your threadle verbal to be? I highly recommend that it is the same as the tunnel threadle you use with your other dogs

I actually do not have a tunnel threadle with my other dogs. Emmie was my first dog with a lot of verbals but I didn’t want to go all out because of that. I am going to add some more for Lu because I think I’ll need them and I’m much better as at using them now as well. I think I’ll be using “through” for a tunnel threadle. I also do want to add additional reward markers for her because I think they will be useful. But since I don’t have them, I also don’t want to overdo it too much for myself. I’ll add them to the Verbals post for this week.

    >Looking at this video, I think we can smooth out your mechanics to make it clearer for her, which will get more prop focus as well. I was not really sure what you wanted in the beginning (sends? parallel path? LOL!) and neither was she πŸ™‚

Hahaha neither was I. I was going to try rear crosses and then decided to change it which is all the indecision at the beginning.

    >And you have total permission to worry less about the preciseness of the foot hit πŸ™‚ We are shaping her to leave you to go do a β€˜thing’, so you can accept and reward approximations of the thing πŸ™‚

Again this is going to be much more helpful for me for these prop exercises knowing this now. I will try these again with the suggestions.

    >so it is perfectly fine to reward the less-than-perfect touches and the ones where she is clearly committing to the prop but the stride takes her over it.

Ok that’s very helpful for these exercises.

Here’s our second attempt at the turn and burn. I moved it outdoors, added a bar on the ground (kinda hard to see) and added some more running out of the turns.

Here’s our second attempt at countermotion. I left this video longer because I decided to skip even attempting rear crosses after starting this session. I thought the parallel path went ok but there was no way she would send to the prop far enough ahead for me to do a rear cross since she doesn’t have very high value for the prop. I will admit this session got me a little frustrated. I moved onto the turn and burn exercise right after this because I know we both like that one LOL.

Here’s our second attempt at parallel path. I moved it outdoors for more space and brought the prop out with me. She wasn’t actually touching the prop in one direction pretty consistently. I also added my ‘search’ word for her food reward but she still had a lot of focus on me.

Here is tunnel games 1. We have been introduced walking through tunnels shaped with a treat in our in-person class at least once before – maybe twice. So we shaped it again then went into the game with a toy, then added the verbal.

Here is our retrieve. We have worked on this a lot. We do have a reverse retrieve as well where I can send her to her toy and leave while she is going to get it. She does much better with a tug toy than a holee roller though. I did realize I didn’t work “go” during other sessions so I figured I would add it in on this session.

We worked on the collection sandwich tonight. Even when I tried to do the opposite side I couldn’t lol. We did eventually get some reps on both sides. Timing for blinds and decel was pretty poor on my part.
