ParticipantHere’s the last one for now! This was another session on the ESC Independent Weaves. Did just a couple reps with the hard rear crosses. I wasn’t quite sure where to place the wing for the wrap around entry or if I even needed it. I think that messed her up a bit.

ParticipantHere’s W2 ESC Discrimination Skills with Motion. When I went back and watched this I felt like i cheated a bit (unknowingly) on the first few reps and used my body more than I wanted to. But the remaining reps I did not help as much. This was also a fun session to see the words she responded to and when she needed them to responsive.

ParticipantHere’s W2 ESC Super Independent Verbal Skills. This session was really fun and informative for me. Key points – she REALLY listens to her verbals and is very good at them if I give them to her timely. This really showed up with the tunnel. If I didn’t give her a “go tunnel” she’d turn back to the side the I sent her from. If I did say go tunnel she didn’t even look back at me and just ran straight. When I gave her a timely “right” command out of the tunnel, she was perfect. Next time I’ll put the camera a little closer to me – it was hard hearing some of my commands at the beginning.

ParticipantHi Tracy – here’s the first of a few sessions from the week that I got behind on editing. Sorry for the bombardment 🙂
This is W2 ESC Layering Skills. We were struggling with Sequence 5 and then I realized I walked it incorrectly. I only tried the correct way once because she was tired by that time but I don’t know if I’d be able to get it by myself even walking it correctly. I figured I would also wait on feedback for Sequence 5 before even attempting Sequence 6.

ParticipantHere is W2 ESC Independent Weaves. We did a couple of sessions just working the soft side entry.

ParticipantGot a little behind on editing. Here is W1 Jumpers Course 2 Take 2 with your suggestions. I felt like I didn’t really get it correct until the last rep and then kind of gave up on it.

ParticipantHere’s Jumpers Course 2. I was really struggling from about 10-17 the first time I walked it/ran it LOL. I made it through to 20 the first rep but I was not giving her good information and forgot some verbals. I rewalked it again and thought I did a lot better the second time. We had a bar down on 11 (I think I went a in too far on 10 and then was late with the verbal) but was happy with that.

ParticipantHere is our session from last night on Standard Course 1. My main goal this summer is to work up to running a full standard course as if we were at a trial. We made a field trip to Jess and Falco’s house for this course. I think this is about her third time here on this equipment. We have been traveling around going to different equipment because the hardest thing for her is generalization. Before actually running this, we did a quick practice on each contact. During the run, we broke it down into pieces with each contact and stopped and rewarded. My handling was not ideal because I was very focused on her performance on the contacts and if she was confident or not. This was also the first time we did an A-frame in a sequence too. We’ve done it with a jump before and after but not in sequence. She was a little hesitant so she hit pretty high but I know that will get better because she’s pretty rock solid at home. I was REALLY happy with her teeter as we have been working on being excited about that obstacle since it’s definitely her least favorite. We also cut the full sequence short because it was hot and I was really happy with the session overall.

ParticipantHere’s our second try on parts of Jumpers Course 1 with your suggestions. And sorry about the camera placement. Sun was shining on the other side of the field and would have made it too hard to see.

Participant[The turn from 7 to the 8 tunnel is something we should play with and time. She was in big extension there, which creates a wider line. But the other option is that you can decel and cue a collection there (as she lands from 7, you are already decelerating and cue the wrap) and then we time the difference between the wrap and the extension.]
I considered that here when I walked it and I would like to time to see the difference. She has never been one to generalize and the differences in surfaces make a big impact on her. She runs fastest on grass, probably a toss up between dirt and turf (really depends on the turf though), and then mats are the slowest. When I’m at new facilities I usually try not to give her any collection verbals unless absolutely needed because she is already so thoughtful and she’s so good at collecting that it really does slow her down. On this turn I purposely let her jump in extension because of that because normally in a trial she’s not going to be running on grass and it keeps her speed up.
[One other thing to consider at 14 – threadle her in and slice to her right, towards the outside of the course. It should be relatively easy to ge her to turn left at 13 for the threadle, and then the exit of 14-15 is a fabulous line with a ton of speed. The exit of the slice backside when she is turning left to get to 14 from the outside backside push is a tight turn, so the threadle line might be the fastest line for her.]
I think I will try the ending of this sequence again from 11 and on to try a few of these things.
[Nice verbal on the tunnel entry, she turned beautifully on the exit. Try to cue that turn and then get outta there, you held position for a moment which made you a shade late getting down the line for 18-19. It is possible you were trying to decel as part of the tunnel exit cue, or your legs/lungs were angry LOL, but I don’t think you need to decel if that was planned]
I did plan the decel as part of the tunnel exit – the lateness getting down the line was my legs LOL. I will try it with the verbal only.
[You don’t need a cross there, as the serp handling you did well be fastest!]
I felt like I was giving her a bad line the way this was set but it looked ok in the video except for being behind. But that’s probably why I felt like I gave her a bad line LOL.

ParticipantHere is Jumpers Course 1. I went for a run before setting this up and definitely regretted that. I didn’t realize how much of a runner this was until I set it up.
Rep 1 I forgot the course. Also, she definitely didn’t know where she was going coming out of #8 tunnel to #9 so had a big head check.
Rep 2 I fixed 8-9, but we had an off course on 14. She normally has a really independent backside but I don’t think I was supporting it enough.
Rep 3 we made it through but I was not in the place I wanted to be for the last few jumps (probably because I was dying by this point lol). I wanted another cross between 18-19 but instead just ran the line. I was setting her up for a nice turn out of 17 tunnel which turned out really good but I didn’t have enough gas left to make it for the cross 😂

ParticipantHere is yesterday’s session. We did sequences 3 and 4. I usually use Em’s name for soft turns out of tunnels. I don’t really say much for soft turns otherwise. I use dig for tight wraps to the left.

ParticipantHere’s yesterday’s session for the ESC skills. We did sequences 1 and 2. For the second sequence we changed our handling on rep 2 to switch it up. We dropped a bar so tried it for a 3rd rep but I got kind of tongue tied with cues.
