ParticipantHi Tracy,
When does the posting for this class close?
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantHere’s Kippy’s session for backside openings with the tunnel discrimination.

ParticipantSorry for the barrage of posts. I got behind in editing. This is Emmie’s session from today on backside openings with the tunnel discrimination. I actually thought this was going to be easier with Emmie and it turned out to be opposite. Kippy nailed this and I struggled with Emmie.

ParticipantEmmie’s switch away with weaves.

ParticipantAnd Kippy’s switch away with weaves.

ParticipantHere’s Emmie’s switch away session. Much easier than Kippy LOL. But then I wouldn’t support the layer๐
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantWe skipped ahead to practice the switch aways for the Open. And for your viewing pleasure here’s Kippy’s hot mess training session ๐คฃ. Can you tell I never do rear crosses? And also have no idea how to break it down LOL. I did try to break it down with a toy nearby but he’d just run to the toy instead. Also he does have a switch command but he interprets that as turn away from me. It does not mean take an obstacle first and then turn away.

ParticipantShe is reading the FFCs well! For her, try more of a slice line up at jump 1 as well โ if you watch her from landing of 1 to entry of 2 on both sides, she has to make an extra turn to get to 2 and a slice set up will eliminate that (she will be able to drive straight to it).
Sorry! I should have mentioned this when I posted. I set both dogs up poorly on purpose from the startline to test their understanding of the verbal on some of these. Kippy I set up because i know he likes to around that jump if he’s not set up on a slice. Emmie it’s more to test the understanding of the verbal because she’ll take that first jump. Maybe it was too much for the sessions for both dogs. Trial setting I would definitely be setting up dogs on slice at the startline jump and not staring them down the middle lol.
And in training, throw a TON of reinforcement to the landing spot so that she learns to ignore your motion in order to maintain her commitment to the threadle jump.
I’ll try this on another short session with the added motion.

ParticipantHe actually has great startlines at trials. I’ve always started in motion to keep me moving otherwise I get in my own head and overthink the set up. If I had this at the Open, I would very likely do a backside push.
For the line up at jump 1: Set up more of a slice over 1 so he doesnโt go around it โ there is a bit of pressure on these and he is reading that, plus he is really close to the jump so it is easier to go around it.
He was much better at :53 and 1:36, for example, when you had a lot more of a slice line. I like the slices on 1 here, because it takes out the front of 2 almost entirely and gives the dogs plenty of room to take 1 in extension.I knew I was setting him up in a bad position on these (I’d definitely line him up at a slice if this was a trial) but I was trying to push this because I know this is an area where he struggles.
When you change your position โ move straight back away from the line of the entry wing (towards the next jump) for now, rather than more across the #23 jump โ when you moved across the #2 jump, it was hard to know til after he landed from 1 if you wanted the front or back of the jump there. So, positionally you are in the same spot (near the entry wing) but we just move you further back from it when changing position.
Ok – I’ll have to go back and watch what I was doing. I know he took out the wing on one of them.

ParticipantHere’s Emmie’s session for the backside trend openings. Where she struggles sometimes is not taking the jump when I’m leaving to get down the line. So I think my step might need to be adding me leaving with more and more motion while she takes the jump.

ParticipantHere’s Kippy’s session over two days for backside trends. We trained this this summer and he is very proficient threadling one jump. However, he does have a hard time working this specific opening. He’s done this during some of the CAMP courses too where he semi threadles the first jump. I will say I was being very deliberate not to have motion with this but in a trial setting I’m almost 100% releasing him while I’m motion off the startline. He also has a very different commitment point than Emmie does.

ParticipantWOuld have loved to run the biathlon standard course from Cyno. All the skills we are working on ๐

ParticipantHi Tracy,
So taking a look at the courses you sent out, the specific one that I struggle with is layering of the weaves. It’s the second to last course map by Ashley Deacon, obstacles 5-7. I can typically layer other obstacles but I really struggle with the weave set-up here. I almost always get a spin out of the weaves or a turn right back into them for an off course. Here is a practice session that I tried to set up earlier this summer. Emmie was able to get this MUCH easier than Kippy.

ParticipantBest investment ever = standing desk ๐ I really like the jump ide and just focusing on thing at a time each session. I do think that a jump is much higher value for him. I think I know what you’ll say but since he really doesn’t have much for a wrap cue on a jump would you use my cone wrap cue ” around” on this or just say jump?
