Participant<It might be a matter of how it is cued (and when). She is fast and powerful, so will likely need a ‘brake’ arm style of cue: the dog side arm AND the opposite arm cue the soft turn, rather than sending on the dog side arm only.>
I’m sure this will come up during one of the sequences and we can try it then.
<Has she seen a chiro or soft tissue person since then? She might have something that needs attention and causing her to be a bit careful.>
No, but it seems to very much be the jump grid situation as it doesn’t show up anywhere else. Plus, we are easing our way into the chiro stuff because it’s “scary.”
<Also, you can add more of the forward focus to the jump before the release – will she look at the jump when you point at it?>
We have worked a forward focus cue but I don’t think it’s ready for adding to sequences yet.
So I went back and rewatched all the points and my question is, when will I have to NOT be perfect with my handling LOL. She’s so difficult to handle because of this and her speed. Plus there’s just a lot of situations I feel like she thinks outside of the box and I’m not quite sure what to do. I’ll post a video of a backside wrap issue I had to see what you think as an example.

ParticipantHere is our unedited session for Sequence #1 Is the 5 minute threshold for each sequence or all the sequences combined?

Participant<She is a really cool dog! Fill me in more on the challenges you are having so we can focus on them very specifically here 🙂>
Here are a couple of items that I think we need just to give you an idea:
1) Going back and retraining soft turns
-She commits so early to obstacles and stays on her line. I think this is a big missing link for us to execute sequences.
2) Soft turns out of tunnels and how to break this down better
-Pretty similar to the item above but this is where it really shows up that I need a soft turn cue. She does great out of curved tunnels, straight tunnels, and if I’m timely with cues she will turn very tight out of straight tunnels. It’s the soft turns out of tunnels and subtly curved tunnels we struggle with. From my end:
1) Plan ahead for my training sessions. If I’m having an issue, go back/review video, and be able to pivot my training. This is a hard skill for me 🙂 I think I do a decent job of planning training sessions, but it’s the reviewing and pivoting that needs work.
2) Keeping Lu happy and her confidence up. I think she is a lot more sensitive than I first thought when she was younger. A good example was a recent jump grid. A few weeks ago we did a four jump grid with an increased height at the end that I accidentally set incorrectly (set it too tight). She did it but finagled her body around and I got scared she was going to hurt herself (pretty sure I said something like OMG when she did it). We’ve done a few since then and she’s been very hesitant on the third jump (adding stutter steps, going around it outside of the grid). We took a break from grids for a few weeks but started back yesterday. And we just worked on very low jumps, adding motion, and lots of rewarding to build her back up. She’s not 100% but I would have never guessed something like this would affect her.-

ParticipantHi!
Rain impeded our training for a week and then I got behind on all my editing. So sorry for the video spam you’re about to get. Here’s Lead outs/Big lines 1 – Sequences 2,3
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantHere are lap turns. I thought this might turn out like the tandem turns but when I was facing her she would come into me much easier so this went well. Tomorrow I’ll try breaking down the tunnel exits for the tandem turns with your suggestions.
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantHere is the first sequence of the lead outs and big lines. We missed jump #5 quite a few times so broke it down.

Participant<And, do a BC so she exits and you are connected over your other shoulder and she changes sides rather than lock onto the wing>
Do I do the BC before she goes into the tunnel as well?
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantHere we initially started with stationary tandem turns and it went great. Adding the tunnel it completely deteriorated. How do I get her to come into me from the tunnel?
Chaia Herrgott
ParticipantHere’s the teeter bang game. We’ve done quite a lot of work on this so we just started from the side. She has a nose touch but if I leave her on there trying to get additional duration/multi nose touches she starts to move her rear leg too. Obviously somehow I paired it altogether but not sure how to get rid of it. I released her faster in this video so I didn’t get the rear leg movement.

ParticipantWe tried the tunnel entries/exits again but only focused on the rear crosses. I made it a smaller set up with a mini tunnel and only the beginning wings just to see if I could get the correct turns out of the tunnel. I have no idea what I was doing wrong. It seemed liked some of the entries to the tunnel from the right wing she shouldn’t have rear crosses but did and then some of them from the left she should have rear crossed but didn’t. I tried it on a longer tunnel with no wings at the end.
