ParticipantI did channels again last night and I think I’m confused with angling at 2 and 8. I tried to angle them all at 2 and 8 but then Chapter seemed confused and tried to weave the final poles. In hindsight I could have put the mm closer. After several fails I put the poles back to 3 and 9. To get more success.
Tonight we did 2x2s. I tried to reward with the frisbee, but that was WAY too much! I ended up going back to mm and worked the harder angles. This went pretty well I think, I also think I need to clean my camera lens- I have no idea why it’s so cloudy!
Let me know what you think!

ParticipantI did another downhill track session last night. I added more tip but then he didn’t seem as speedy so I moved it back up. I way over did the cheese on the first rep which is why he jumped off and kept eating the cheese because it was in a bad spot to reach on the teeter. Let me know if you think he needs more sessions with less tip to get more speed.
This afternoon we did another wobble board session. The first couple of reps I did easy from the side reps but something happened to my video so it’s not posted. I decided to add a wing to do more speed but the distractions by the pool yard was too much. I then decided to scale it back and do easier reps to see if we could work through the distractions which I think was better.
This evening we did bang game in a new spot in the yard. I got a lot of whining and drooling on the first couple reps and I struggled a bit getting him to focus on the start without self starting. I think we got it together in the middle but I think I rewarded some reps where the two on two off wasn’t great. Probably not our best session.
Training is always so up and down! I’m blaming the heat- its 90 out of nowhere- this is too hot too soon!

ParticipantBackwards- oh my! Now I know why I was so confused! This is what happens when I watch the video and don’t review it before I train. Whoops!! This time I printed out the PDF and brought it with me and it made so much more sense!! I kept this session super easy for Chapter since I botched the last 2×2 session. He responded really well to the collar grab here and was super eager to go which was awesome! I also was able to add some motion as well. Do I need to go more around the clock before I move the poles?
He is a little over 21 inches at the withers- so he should probably be swimming them. When I did weaves before he was still sorting out the striding but I did see more swimming than bouncing from what I remember.
At this point is it okay to alternate weaves where I do channels one day and then 2x2s the next – or do you think I should have a day off in between? When he does weaves it’s usually only one session a day and he usually has one night off a week (maybe two) when we have nosework.
Thanks!!

ParticipantThat’s exactly what I do for clothes- one last wear before I get the next set dirty lol!!
I did say target (I think) for the wobble board- or maybe I intended to but didn’t on all the reps, but I will make sure to say it.
We did a session of bang game on he teeter last night. Interestingly I tried to restrain him by the collar since he was eager to go and he didn’t care at all- so that was surprising but helpful for reving him up! I had to laugh when I tried the other side because it’s so close to the fence we didn’t really fit, but he didn’t seem to care. This weekend I’m going to love the teeter on the grass so it’s easier to do both sides- I just have to time it with the sprinkler schedule.
Tonight I did the downhill track and used squeeze cheese so I didn’t have the treat issue. Chapter was very excited about the cheese. He seemed unphased by the tip. I don’t have a lot more left to lower until we’re on the ground. I’m assuming at this point we don’t want it on the ground since we’re working on the downhill motion minus the end behavior, but let me know if I’m wrong on this.
So far I think he’s doing well and his head seems more in the game. I’ve barely gotten any whining. Maybe the baby boy is finally growing up!

ParticipantGreat suggestions! I’ll try to do some frisbee stuff. Tugging has been a struggle for us so I’m working through that on its own- so many things to work on!!!
I did adding poles 3 and 4 for the 2×2 and then last night I tried doing make shift channels with the 2x2s. First to the 2x2s. I compiled some of the progression that we did. Since he had previously been weaving 4-6 poles I experimented as to where he is in terms of a challenge but not too much. One issue I had with the poles far apart was that when we did an entry at 3 o’clock he would weave the first set as a single 2×2 heading towards 9 o’clock. Since that’s not technically wrong I wasn’t sure what to do with that. I ended up moving the poles closer to see if that helped with the confusion but then he was running past the first poles. Should I keep the poles further apart and keep entries from 4 to 8? I’ve never done this method before so I’m still getting used to it.
I did some channel work last night and I also some issues where Chaoter would weave a single 2×2 if we loaded from the 3 o’clock positions or he tried to weave one side of the channel. I had some horrible manners minder timing so some of that was on me for bad rewarding. Let me know what you think and how I should proceed on this.
Thanks!

ParticipantHe did do some more active games Friday before the teeter and he was super focused during the day- I was VERy happy with that! The mountain climbers seems to be his favorite so far.
This weekend we did some more wobble board and I moved the teeter and we did uphill mountain climbers the next day. These were filmed two different days (even though I wore the same thing lol)
I think he’s starting to understand the look forward in the wobble board. The manners minder really helped with that. The few times he looked back I waited until he was looking forward to reward. I also tried to stand anywhere but next to him. I’m thinking another session of this might be good to make sure he understands.
Last night I did mountain climbers in a new location. Because it was new I didn’t add any tip. My husband was also on the phone and putting golf balls which is a HUGE distraction for Chapter so he had lots going on in this session. He did really well focusing with the golf balls! Yeah! His focus is slowly but surely getting there.

ParticipantGreat point about the frisbee involving sending feelings- I didn’t think about that. I did mountain climbers this afternoon and then the wobble board this evening. Prior to the mountain climbers I had done two sessions of tugging and racing to the toy- both of which are works in progress because I totally slacked on his toy drive during his adolescence so now I’m working on building it back up. So to get him reved up I did lots of tug with the fabric frisbee. He hasn’t done mountain climber a in over a week so I was curious to see what he thought of the increased tip. He seemed fine with it. His one slower rep was when I stood at the end of the board but he really doesn’t like forward pressure so that may have played into that.
The wobble board went better than last time. The standing at the end is such an interesting point- that’s where we got stuck in a prior teeter class. Unless I was right next to him he could not hold the end position. So I have some work to do since the standing has already been build in a little. I tried to move more and change up my position time but you can see he wants to orient to me on the reps I was wanting him to drive ahead. Let me know if I handled that okay or if I need to do something g else like go back and start with smaller movement. Maybe I’m lumping too much?
It seems like for Chapter the end position games are the most challenging for him- at least so far.
Looking forward to your feedback!
Oh and my teeter mover decided to play golf and then have beers with a friend tonight. You weren’t kidding good help is hard to find! 😂

ParticipantI tried to add more running this time and directing him back to me so he didn’t back weave. I’m still having a few times where he jumps the gun ( both with weaves and teeters) but at least that means he’s excited to do them! Overall he didn’t seem too affected by my motion. I tried to switch it up by alternating sides and threadles thrown in as well. Some of my starting positions were off camera so I edited this down.
Let me know what you think!

ParticipantThank you- I think I’ve been over doing the podcasts, webinars and online classes in loopy training a no marker cues so I get in my head sometimes! But Chapter also shuts down if the rule of the game are fussy so I’m trying to keep it as clear for him too. I did treadles last night and the line up went well to get him on the correct side. I was also proud of him for working through the random asshole who decided weekday fireworks were apparently necessary- wth? He did struggle with the 9 and 12 positions so I moved up to make it easier so we didn’t have more than two failures. I think he’s ready for four poles – let me know!

ParticipantI totally failed on moving the teeter- hopefully I can recruit some manual labor this weekend. I did the downhill track again and added more tip. I’m not super sure about the wing propping up the teeter because it’s a bit wobbly but Chapter didn’t seem to mind. I also reved him up with tug and frisbee. The first rep he was totally jazzed up but we got it together by the end. The one issue I had was when the teeter slammed down the cheese went flying off the plate but he keep his 2on 2 off 😂
We also did the end position on the wobble board. Targeting the plate was a little different for him so I think I started off with a little too much motion. I dialed it back and I think he got it by the end. The target is a black lid so it’s hard to see in the video.
Let me know what you think!

ParticipantI did another session of 12 and 6 and tried to add more excitement and motion. In the first rep I tried to do a kind of restrain and send. As you can see in the video Chapter does not like that. I’ve actually never filmed it so it was interesting to see how much he doesn’t like this. He has always disliked me doing any sort of restrained recalls. So I scrapped that plan. For our frisbee tricks he does a wrap around me so I tried that to get some speed and focus- that seemed to work well for the easier entries. We had some communication problems regarding starting the reps for 12 to 3. Thoughts on how to make this clearer? I don’t want to quash his enthusiasm but I also don’t want him to go without me. I also forgot to move on some of the reps- so much to remember lol!
I also tried some threadles and realized I need to open the weaves more for this. I’m not going to post that because it was very obvious to me I need to make it easier.
Jennifer Clemons
ParticipantI’ll recruit my husband to drag it to a new place tonight lol!
I did the downhill track and I probably should have rewatched the video before I did this because I totally forgot he’s not supposed to go back and forth- whoops! But he didn’t seem to care at all which is good.
I, going to try to get creative and find something higher to out the top of the hill on so I have more space to make the downhill drop more as we get there. I’m proud of him for keeping his head on and he seems to be having fun as well! Yeah!

ParticipantI’ve been playing violin since I was 8 so it’s nice to stay involved but this break showed me I need to practice more lol!! It was a fun concert though and it’s nice to be back with a live audience even if it’s smaller than normal.
I tried to post last night but it looks like it didn’t go through!! I added more tip last night and also started farther back so chapter had more speed . I was happy with his enthusiasm because he had a cranky day yesterday but he seemed very excited to train this. He even tris to jump the gun on the start a few times, but I went back and reinforced his stays and we were able to fix that easily. Here are a few reps from last night
Jennifer Clemons
ParticipantAnd I’m back! My mother in law was in town last weekend and then I play violin in the community orchestra and we have our first concert in over a year Friday. I’ve been busy with rehearsals and I needed to practice since I’m also a little rusty!!
I did mountain climbers and added tip. Since chapter was already weight shifting when we did this exercise in max pup, I didn’t do the weight shift core game, but let me know if you think I should. One difference this time is I taped the target plate to the bottom of the teeter so he has to lean Down to get the cookie. Before the plate was on top of the end of the teeter. He did seem to weight shift better when the reward was at the end of the board versus sticking out from the bottom. This target is a plastic lid so it’s a bit floppy. Is it okay or should I out it on the board again? I don’t want him to get confused with a target on the board and then a similar target off the board when we do end game.
We trained this twice today. The first time we did a refresher with no tip and then later (after rehearsal lol) we did a little tip. Since the first session was super easy, i on,y posted the second one. I do like his drive to the end. He doesn’t seem concerned at all about the tipping point.
I’m interested to hear your thoughts!

ParticipantThanks for the feedback! That helps. So I filmed these sessions before I got your feedback so ignore the things I didn’t fix! I was going to refilm last night but then it was pouring rain- which is just confusing to us desert people lol!
I added a small amount of tip to both games- it’s probably like
Half an inch. On the backup game I am leaning forward to try to see his feet but I will try to keep it simple so I don’t need to bend forward. I think this went well, except with distance and I will stop worrying about that! The end position also went well even with the tip. I tried to keep this super short to minimize whining. I did have the target there so I will leave it for the time being. I did like the point about helping him with the cookie versus waiting for him to offer the behavior. I also didn’t even think about the duck tape holding the cookie tray for the mountain climbers being a distraction. I’ll make sure I remove that for next time.
I know we haven’t gotten here yet but in max pup we worked on the target or scratching on the board as another layer of criteria. How does that work with the two on two off? Is the end result something like- run to the end, do your scratching, paw target, etc until the board hits the ground and then go into a two on two off? I’m a big picture person so it helps me if I know what the end result is supposed to look like.
Thanks!
