    Backing Up

Hi Tracy. We’ve been really challenged trying to get this behavior. I thought your suggestion of putting a treat between your legs and letting her back out sounded perfect. But I was getting downs, sits, or bows too many times, with minimal backing up. I tried tossing cookies between her front legs. Nope. I tried sitting in a chair and putting the cookie under the chair. Nope. So I resorted to what you’ll see here. This was our third session using the wobble board. And the first session using the plank to back up on…. I’m hoping the plank will help her back up in a straight line, instead of curving around.

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Tracy,
Hope you had a great holiday. Here’s our Goat Tricks 2, with movement and noise. She’s been on the wobble board a fair amount with no issues. So I upped the ante with the inflatable bone. For the noise, I put 2 crushed water bottles underneath it. You can hear them crunching/crackling a bit. And they make the bone even more unstable. But she works with it all.
I did do the sessions with tugging, but I trimmed that part out. (I think I’m tugging for too long, frequently. Any suggestion on how low a tug session should be…that’s a pre- or post- session for a lesson?)

Hi Tracy, here are our exercises for the next steps in wing wraps and our BC work.

BC nightmare (I mean exercise) HAHA This video was originally over 6 minutes. BC’s just seem to eat my lunch. I spend a lot of time walking and re-walking…and I can see from the video I need to do that without her…she was VERY patient during those 6 minutes. I seem to have the most trouble breaking it down and turning correctly when the dog is starting out on my right. I’ll spend some time just walking these for some more practice. Here are the couple that I think I did right. 🙂

Thanks Tracy, I did notice that Murph hit the prop when I hadn’t sent her because I was resetting for the next reps. So I’ll definitely remember to pick up the prop for transitions in the future.

Here’s our planktronics work. We’ve done a little bit of board work before, but not on this board and not in this location.

    And our deceleration exercise.

    Hi Tracy,
Here’s our Building Sends and Commitment to a prop game.
Once thing I notice when I’m using the toy, it looks like I need to get it lower for her. She’s got all of her adult teeth now, so she’s back to enjoying tugging.

    Hi Tracy,
Thanks for your insights on Murphy’s play preferences. I didn’t see these things and appreciate your “eye.” So I’ll work on not doing those things 🙂

    Here’s our GOAT 1 Work.

    Here’s our Wing Wrap Foundations 1 & 2 work
I wound up using toys because when I initially used bowls and treats, it looked too much like the “Bucket Game” we play to do her grooming. So, she would just down and stare at the bowl and wait for me to comb her. LOL After we had some success with toys, I did also go back to bowls, but used very different bowls than the one I use when we do grooming, and she was also very good with that process.

    Will do on these suggestions.

Here’s our focus forward work. On the first video, I’m kneeling down with her. On the second video, I change to standing, and adding a bit of fake running. Her retrieve isn’t as good as it usually is in these sessions. She “came” with a great retrieve and desire to tug. But after the first session, I noticed the white rabbit fur on the toy was bloody…and she had lost a tooth. 🙂

I see on the second video, the last rep, I waited too long to send her and actually released her when she was looking at the side and not straight ahead.

I did a session of this running with her…and she was like…WHOA…what’s happening. So I realized I need to spend more time at the fake running / slow walk level.

    Hi Tracy,
Here are our pregames. I’m working with her on giving me a stronger nose touch overall. She’s very “gentle” with it.

Good morning, Tracy. Here is our Entry Gate to Start Line session.
Once we were down on the field, I was using her breakfast kibble at the reward. In at least one instance, I saw her reluctant to leave the cart and kibble…so I just asked for a quick step away and rewarded. I think on our last rep in front of the jump, she didn’t even look back. I definitely need to do more leash tugging…I don’t recall that she was able to do that at the trials we’ve been to, so I’d like to see if we can move past that and get tugging in the future. cmc

The trials are in Moorpark, CA, at Daneen Fox’s Stone Pony Ranch. The club is WWDAT — Weekday Wing Ding Agility Trials…Smaller…Friendlier…Funner. It’s been a really good environment for us. 🙂 cmc

Good morning. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to with the Elevator Game levels 3 & 4. I can definitely see how continuing to play this game into the future will definitely be beneficial. After reviewing my first few clips, I realized I was really catching the board at the same level, and I needed to try to work lower with it. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to catch that low, but I was. So in the future, I’ll vary the heights I’m catching at. Especially at the lower catch height, she’s having some balance issues, and I think part of that is me and some instability on my part on how I’m holding the board.
Our effort that comes in at about 1:09 on the video is, I think near perfect in terms of where I hope she is downing on the board. I accidentally said Dig before my countdown…but it seems like her timing and where she is on the board were just right. I need to figure out how to see that in the moment and do a super reward. 🙂
Thanks for all of the work you put in to thinking this through. Definitely the best teeter training I’ve had the pleasure of taking. And ANY TIME we are walking by the teeter, Sundae finds a way to hop on…and she’s always up for teeter work. So thanks.

Thanks for this detail. I didn’t really think about her getting on front, then rear, versus all 4 at once…but it makes sense. I’ll definitely focus on that.
Today I looked ahead at the crazy elevator games…and I can “see” how things will move forward. And I can see it working for us. I was a little worried about the times she doesn’t go all the way to the end of the board…or is slower to get into position. I think the tunnel / teeter will take care of that.
I’ll start work on these exercises next weekend. We will be traveling this week to a mid-week, small, one ring trial in California. Her first. Just doing jumpers, FAST, and T2B. We’ll bypass any teeters. I’m wanting to get a feel for where I am with her…and where she is with the world. I think I need to be more animated with her…she really likes that, but that’s a big challenge for the cerebral me…. 🙂 So, hoping to get some insights this week into where we are, and bring that info into your next class that I’ve signed up for. She is such a different dog than I’ve had before, and add Covid on top of that and a full year of staying home…and I just don’t have a sense of what we’ll be able to do out there in the real world.
Again, thanks for the feedback…and I’ve really enjoyed seeing flyball through your dogs’ eyes these past few days…and your RV travels. Gives me hope we are getting back to something normal.

    Bang game 3

Here’s some of our work where the board is parallel to the ground. She still is having some balance issues…but I think they are getting better. This is definitely something I can see continuing to do for awhile…and I generally do 2 or 3 at the start of every session.
