Here’s a little from our work yesterday. This is Week 3. It wasn’t a brilliant session by any means.

    Counter Motion on wing wraps.

Bang game and some teeter work. I’ve never had a dog with such a “soft touch”. Quit when I got two feet on the teeter.

Here’s a wrap of Week Two. It went okay, not spectacular. Queenie needed a lot of cheerleading. She went in season yesterday, hot here, moved up to 8” a few days ago. Not confident today about sending to the center jump.

We ran into some problems both yesterday and this morning. Same problem with wraps and again when doing fluffy blinds. These videos are a little longer than usual but I wanted you to see what is happening. Queenie hasn’t had a problem going into the tunnel nor taking the jump after the tunnel on what I’ll call the North side of the set up. But lots of problems entering the tunnel and/or taking the jump on the south side of the set up.

I thought we had worked through it yesterday afternoon when practicing wraps, so was surprised when it exhibited itself first thing this morning. Of course I thought right away I must not be making enough connection coming out of the tunnel, or when sending into the tunnel, but why only on one side of the set up?

    Hopefully you’ll have some answers!

    Sorry for the long delay.

We are still working on the teeter game from Week 1. No way could we start with the teeter at full height. Much too scary! So with the help of Braunschweiger, we have gotten this high. Ready to move up a link this weekend.

I think this is Lazy Game Part Two, one step send to jump. The most difficult part here is the start line stay. We’re working on it! But I thought the sends were going okay. What do you think? Improvements?

Here is the second part of Lazy Game. Wasn’t quite sure about this. Just moving with more action?

And finally, here’s our Timing and Connection video. This was much more fun. Will finish off the remainder of Week two this weekend.

Here’s some plank work from yesterday. I’ve always had problems getting Queenie to load straight on to the plank. You can see here if I throw the treat off to the side, she doesn’t remount the plank straight on but hops on in the middle. Not quite sure what to do about this or if I am worrying too much about it.

Here is our wing and tunnel work. My camera had slipped down so you aren’t going to be able to see my eye contact, which I’m sure you would like to :). Fixed it towards the end. At one point I moved the wings out a bit and then I had to work at a one step send. We need to work a bit more on this.

Wow, we are way behind already.

Here is our lazy pinwheel. Queenie has done this quite a few times while taking her in person class, but she’s been resting for a few weeks because of a limping problem.

First iteration. Some trouble with the middle jump.

Middle attempt, jumps in same position.

Moved jumps to a bigger distance and also trying to move less myself. Too much at once imo!

Final try. Jumps still at expanded distance but more support from me.

Here’s a video with a few of the games.

We redid sending to a target. I’m conflicted about this. Sending to a target is one method of teaching go-outs in obedience and although I’ve not used it in the past, I am considering using it for Wolfie. If I do, I would want her to have a specific action to take when she gets to the target and not just hang around out there. So I think I will redo this, have her put her front feet on the target and then sit. But where are we going with this for agility? Would this mess up the purpose of sending to a target in agility?

Did lots of plank work with Wolfie as a younger puppy but clearly we need to keep up with this!

Cone work – you can see Wolfie strongly favors turning to the left. I usually have to put my foot in her path or use a big lure to get her to change direction. And here I missed a couple of opportunities to reward her and didn’t have my treats ready!

Toy races. Well, I’ll be d*mned! We have worked lots with tennis balls, toys, and food and not made any progress. I gave up on it figuring I’d be seventy by the time Wolfie is ready to compete, and if she wants to run with me instead of ahead of me, that would be fine. Then today, viola! Very interesting. Same thing happened with cone work. We worked and worked on it and Wolfie had no clue, then one day, after ignoring cone work for a while, we walked out into the garage, Wolfie ran to a cone and started circling it! Wolfie seems to be the latent learner champion.

Thanks for asking Julie. I was wondering the same.
