ParticipantThanks Tracy,
Here is round two. I was very happy with this session. About half-way through, Cowboy is moving past me and is driving up the ramp. He bailed once because I dropped a piece of food intended for the target plate. Otherwise, a solid session 🙂

ParticipantLOL! I will keep that in mind!
Today, I added a second set of poles. It went smoother than expected so we did the initial progression by positioning the 2nd set of poles at 3&9, 2&8 and 1&7.Â
In addition, I found a field that I may be able to work in. As long as it doesn’t rain, we should be good to go!

ParticipantThanks Tracy! I’ll see what I can do regarding an outdoor training space.
I received the Treat n’ Train. Turns out I have every battery known to humanity except “D” Ugh!

ParticipantThanks Tracy!
Today, I worked on going around the clock with the poles at 6 & 12. Most of it went well. I was especially happy with Cowboy’s entries at the 6:00 position.
I am still struggling at 3:00. I moved to 12:00 and then back to 3:00 and he got it. Hooray! I will keep working the angles, being mindful to have a high success and reinforcement rate.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Today, I practiced the “Find em’ Game” using a tunnel. I started out with the poles at 1:00 & 7:00 and closed them to 6:00 & 12:00. He appeared to slow down a bit when they were completely closed so I may use the open poles as a warm-up until he becomes more confident.
There are a few points in the video where Cowboy starts spinning around me which is a game from our canine freestyle class. I wonder if I was doing something to confuse him. Also, if Cowboy “back-weaves” away from the direction of the target should I reward that? Technically, he is entering correctly. It’s just not the direction I had indicated.

ParticipantHi Tracy!
I may have missed it; I don’t recall reading about the “Find ‘Em game using a tunnel in the pdf files so I improvised. The tunnel was located on the more challenging side so Cowboy did have questions. I helped him by pointing with my foot but moved less dramatically as he showed some understanding.
Note: I found the document and will redo!
I will try the threadle exercise over the weekend. This is a new one for me and I wanted to look at your video a few more times.

ParticipantThanks so much, Tracy!!!

ParticipantOMG, Cowboy loves this game! I started out with the poles slightly open and then closed them completely. I also moved the target board back about 3 feet.Â
My throws started to get really wild because he was leaving me before I was ready. I know I will need to address that at some point but this guy is normally so laid back that it was exciting to see him be a little more forward 🙂

ParticipantGreat tips! Thanks Tracy; I can’t wait to try this 🙂

ParticipantThanks Tracy!
I closed the poles further. Cowboy did well for the most part but had a question around the 50 second mark when we were in the 3:00 position. I moved to 9:00 and back again and he was fine. Next time, if he is OK with entering from 3, 9 and 12, I will close the poles completely.

ParticipantCowboy and I were back at it again. I started with the poles at position 2:00 & 8:00 (approximately) and closed them a little to 1:00 & 7:00.Â
I also started adding more motion. I thought I was moving parallel to the poles in the direction of the target (6:00) but it doesn’t appear that way. I will have to be more mindful next time.

ParticipantThank you so much, Tracy! Yes; we have our agility lessons at Get Rev’d and our rally and canine freestyle are at the Academy of Dog Training and Agility. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by great people who have such a passion for dog training 🙂

ParticipantThanks so much, Tracy! I adore this dog. I adopted Cowboy from the animal rescue where I used to volunteer, He had no training and some people did question why I was getting him but I loved how confidence and outgoing he was.
It was rough going initially because he didn’t understand the concept of shaping but he is a very thoughtful dog and once he has a chance to think things through, he is all in.Â
Â
He does just about everything…tricks, rally-o, sheep herding, agility. He is not as “drivey” as my Border Collie but he is fairly precise and has decent speed. We have a ways to go before we are trial ready but he looks like he will be a lot of fun.Video: Canine Freestyle

I will start to angle the poles. I do not have an interim cue but will probably use “go” since that means move towards the thing ahead of me.

ParticipantHere’s our first attempt at going around the clock…so much fun!:) In the 12:00 position, I sent from both my right and left sides. I am not sure if that’s correct. Also, I broke down and bought a Treat n’ Train. It should arrive in 10 days 🙂
