Great idea about the tug toy or treat from the hand. We will work with that as we proceed with these activities. Judging a 3 day trial this weekend so we are gone for 4 days. I might be able to work more on Monday. 🙂

We also did tunnels yes.. no.. go..
    Here is side 1

    Side 2

    With added speed

You can see her wraps are really wide here. I am not thinking about the wraps rather I am thinking about the yes/no/go actions, but I need to get better at thinking about everything.

I was so glad that you reminded me to do both sides on the concept transfer decel.
JJ definitely has a better side and it was the one we tried at the club. You will see in these videos the difference and I hope that you have some great suggestions for me to tighten these up. I think that I placed myself better in these videos, but did not have as much room for the turn and burn part.

This is definitely her more challenging side.

Side 2 and the one we did previously at the club

    Side 1 adding speed

    Side 2 adding speed

    Adding jumps

With send. I struggled with this. From a passive position she did not want to send out. I cut the distance down and she did better.

Judging last weekend and a 3 day event this week have put a bit of a dent in my available time, but we did get a few quick videos out today.
First is the banana line game

Next a start on the the decel concept transfer

and finally Drink in hand connection

When running a bit I now know why you took a few sips first lol. Last weekend JJ earned two more advanced elite titles for AKC Scent work. She is a hard worker.

“She does better when you give her one more stay verbal as you re-connect and get into position. When you don’t, you are accidentally pairing the release with the arm and re-connection, so she was releasing on the re-connection. Reminding her to stay while your arm moves and while you look at her will keep the errors to a minimum.”
This was really helpful information thanks. …and yes she is only my second agility dog. The first one did not have the great foundations that JJ is getting. What a cool addition for me and her.
We have severe storms here today so no outside play time. I did have a video to submit though. It is a low dog walk video showing her turning on it without any concerns. I think that this is something we talked about and it is also a mock up of the teeter leveled out with out the slight motion which I do not think would bother her anyway.

Soooo much good information. JJ is only my second agility dog and the decel is something that I never had to worry about with my first dog. She was much more of a velcro dog and did really tight wraps on her own, but was not near as fast as J. It is a wonderful and interesting process learning with her.

I hope to get out and try more on these exercises to see if I can put some of this wonderful feedback to practice.

I agree about the lower bars for this too. It takes the effort off of the jump and more on the movement and handling.

Sometimes when I did the “wrong” or a different handling maneuver it is because I had a difficult time transitioning the online version to the actual exercise. Sometimes it gives me a different way to attempt an exercise and sometimes it shows me a poor way of handling an exercise.LOL

We were able to work on a couple of other things yesterday. Here is a quick video of lead outs and big lines part 3. This seemed to go okay for JJ, but I found that the Spin to the left was easier for me to do strangely enough.

We then worked on the progressions for the forced FC sequences.
She seemed to remember this well as we started.

For the balanced sequence it was really hard for me to get her to the back side of the jump just before the tunnel, so I adjusted where the jump was. I did make the working area larger for the whole set of sequences this day because like you had said it was pretty tight. The jumps actually ended up being about 21 feet apart on the dogs running line. I had had them at about 18.

Here is sequence 2 going from the opening to the middle section. JJ needs constant reminders about her start line. She is very enthusiastic about her sequence time. LoL. I am so glad that you put that reminder in your clips for me to remember to support that part of our time on task.

Putting it all together is a bit sloppy at first but a bit better on my part in the second try here.

I thought that the course set up was a bit tight, but I had set the jumps at 18 feet on the dogs line I thought, but I will check it out. It might have only been 15 feet. I am not sure about the missing video, it might have been the one before the last one that I posted that I missed uploading. I will double check later.

We had also done lead outs and big lines part 2 so I wanted to get that posted today. I have 4 clips in progression. The wrap turns are still very wide. I know that much of that is my timing, but also needed to include my verbals not just her name.

Clip 1 Getting started and picking her up after the tunnel on both the take off and landing side of the next jump.

Clip 2 working on the wraps

Clip 3 a bit more refined on the wraps

Clip 4 final clip for this session.

Having fun and look forward to your suggestions.

Hi Tracy, We worked on big lines and lead outs 1 in this set of videos.
In the first video clip we just worked on the intro exercise.

In the next clip we went a step further but missed the last jump. I redid this and got the last jump but not while I was running. I must have been pushing on her line, but could not figure out how to run with her and make this work. I should have been able to run with her in a go go send out at the end.

In the next part of the progression I had to break things down for JJ.

Here is our final attempt at putting things together. Not perfect by any means but the end of this session.

PS We are having fun with these exercises with our middle aged dog who has such anxiety at trials that she can’t function well, but loves the back yard fun. She has so many skills that it is good to see her able to play and be successful. 🙂

Here is the other half…the forced threadle. We were able to do these this afternoon with a little repeat of the forced fronts.

On the first clip (the forced front cross in review), the second run, I am not sure why JJ read this wrong. I was wondering if it was because I went behind the wing from the other side.

The second clip is the forced threadle.

JJ has no trouble turning around on the baby dog walk and even on the full height dog walk. This equipment is only our every other week so we can’t work on this stuff every week. The full sized dog walk is restricted to usine it at the full height only, because someone either on their own or in a class messed up the equipment once because of a lack of understanding how to change the height correctly, so now if you want a low height you need to use the very heavy and cumbersome baby dog walk which is usually set at about 2 feet high when it is out.

We have nice sun today, but it is a bit windy out. We will be getting some practice in outside today. I did have a bit of stuff from at the club which I will post first.

Here are my first attempts at the forced FC. The first clip is between jumps 1 and 2 and the second one is before jump 1. I definitely noticed that if i was impatient that JJ did not read this correctly.

Quick entry tonight. We worked a bit on angled entries. Not sure if this was a good way to do this or not. We have had lots of challenges this week getting our work in. We went to see the eclipse on Monday (all day road trip – totally worth it!!). Tuesday was a nice day but I was teaching all day, and after that we have had tons of rain and high winds. Maybe we will have some time outside tomorrow, but if not i have a couple of other clips to send. Hope all is well.

With the zig Zags, I had a hard time lining her up next to the wing. She seemed to feel the pressure from the wing on her own personal bubble and did not want to let me adjust her closer. I looked back to see what you meant about the turning a bit sideways and the placement of the dog. Do you have a suggestion to help me with her placement. This is something that I am struggling with her on when I line her up at a start line. She thinks that she knows best and does not appreciate being readjusted or refuses repositioning so I can get her where I want. It is a new thing for her. It could be more of an impatience thing but I am actually not sure what is going on in her mind.

We worked on Wing it tunnel T&T a bit on two days. The first day was outside with a bit more success at the figure 8 level. No prelim video for some reason.

Then we took it inside and tried to go through the different paces. There are 5 short videos. In the 4th one you can see our bad side and good side. The problem corrected in clip 5 but I am not sure what I did differently. I really struggled with this and would go back to the simpler method often in this short session.

    Step 1

    Step 2

    Step 3

    Step 4 good side/bad side

    step 4 repeated/ correction made

Great ideas for the start line work for lead outs.
I will try to do some of this at home in the house too.
I do something like this when JJ goes to eat. She is not allowed to move her feet when her bowl is put down or it comes back up.
She also can’t leave to get to her food bowl until she hears her release word. It is a bit of a challenge with her since she is soooo food obsessed.

I will go back and revisit the lap turn and tandem turns again with your suggestions. This really helps to clarify what I need to do to improve these.

We worked on the zig zags. I have 3 short clips with the angles less and less. She did the one jump bounce in all but one of the tries on the last video I think. Let me know how we can improve.

So sorry to hear that you are in the middle of a blizzard. There have been such strange weather patterns this past year.

I will revisit the lead outs to change my line. Sometimes when I go out to video I think that I know what I am to be doing, but find out later that I could have done things differently to make the lesson go smoother.

Thanks for changing the color for the PDF for MaxPup PIT Wingin It Tunnel Threadles And Tandems. I found it easily this time I went in. That will help when I get to the more complicated sequences for that lesson.

In terms of the lead issue I am referring to it is more of a lateral lead out issue. It has happened when the first obstacle is a tunnel and then also if there is a couple of jumps in a line, and then a couple of jumps at 90 degree angle to the original line. When I need to lead out more than 2 jumps to keep up with J, she turns so that she does not even look at the second jump and so she skips it all together. If I could get her to face forward I could indicate the second jump before the turn rather than her circumventing it. I will try to get video of what I am talking about. In the case of the tunnel I am not sure how a toy would work, but in the case of a set of jumps I can see it working well if she finds the toy of a great enough interest to her. She really loves the obstacles more than most anything.

We also worked on lap and tandem turns with wings and a tunnel before the rain set in yesterday. The first video is the lap turns and the second one is the tandem turns.

I look forward to your feedback so that I can work on making them better. I was surprised that J came to hand so well. This is not the case if there is something more interesting following a jump that is there or even taking a jump rather than wrapping a wing. How should I proceed to get her to make this choice when the jump itself is more interesting than coming to my hand for the back side of a jump?

    Hope that your weather improves.

Help…Where is the PDF FOR Wingin’ It: Tunnel Threadles And Tandem Turns. There is so much to the short sequences that I need to look at the map for it so I can put it together.
    Thx
