ParticipantBack to business. The club was closed today due to ice, but we managed to get down there to let the pups burn off some steam and for me to get some video. I only got three short clips ( the others ended up just being photos…oops).
The first is a redo of shifting connection putting things together. Hopefully a bit better.
The next two are two directions of our serp work. The one clip that I had went really smooth, but that ended up just being a photo. I forgot to hit video🤪. I was glad the one that I did next had a few glitches. Most often a disconnect on my part.
I look forward to feedback.
PS JJ got 3 1sts and one second at the Scentwork trial last weekend. Her mom got a 1st in Detective one of only 2Q’s in 30 runs.

ParticipantFinally got back to the club. It has been closed for classes for the past three days due to sub zero temps that were cold enough to close schools and icy conditions. Once there the lights were not working so I did not get any new video to share, but I will share that things did go a lot better for me with your suggestions on the last videos. If I can I will get video before the weekend, but if not I will also start to work on the next section of games so that we can continue to keep up.
Hope that you are keeping warm and have kept your power on. We have lost whole trees in the yard, and if we do not get a warming may lose more.

ParticipantThis is a big help. I had not realized to do the spin to get JJ on the correct side for the combos. I have to preview the videos an hour at least before floor time and then try to remember what I saw. We probably will not have time again before Tuesday to practice and do video so for now it is up to me to get a clearer mind of my job in this picture. Thanks. PS we lost a peach tree yesterday from the storm and if the expected high winds come through it could be bad. Have not tried to clear snow yet here. We were one of the lucky ones and did not lose power so far.

ParticipantGreat feedback. I need to trust JJ and send her. My previous dog had to be babysitting on every move, so I don’t want that to happen, but I don’t always have the body movements to go with what I want.
I look forward to playing more with these games so that I can do better at the actual send. I feel like the more I did it the better I got, but it didn’t always show up in the video clips.
Today I snuck down to the club for a very short time with my dogs before the big snow came. Unfortunately, I judged my timing bad and it took me almost double what it usually takes me to get home timewise.
I have a couple of very short videos, and the one that’s a little bit longer. I tried to break this into chunks, kind of like you did. In reviewing your videos, I don’t think I dropped the treat in the right place. I unfortunately left JJ‘s toy at home and only had her ball which was going to roll around too much so I use treats. After your last comments, I probably would have tried to Send from even farther, rather than moving ahead as much. Unfortunately, I have time at the club when I can squeak it in, so I don’t always get feedback before I play the next game. I look forward to your feedback. I will try to identify what I was doing in each of the video clips .
Clip one is a wrap to send dog on right. First attempt I forgot to move.
Clip 2 is the same with dog on the left. I do not think my treat placement is correct, and I still need to send more.
Clip 3 we added the jump at the start and did both sides.
Clip 4 I tried to put things together and you will see how that went. I could not get the center wrap in.
Clip 5 one more attempt hmmmmmmm
lots of snow and wind here, but so far no power outages. The bitter cold is on its way.☹️

ParticipantHope you do not get real hard on the next set of storms. It could be bad here, or terrible depending on the snow/ice/heavy wind scenario that occurs.
We did work on our sends today after appointments and before I teach my puppy classes. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to post until now.
First video part 1, dog on right, one jump. After the first attempt, we moved the wing back farther so there was enough room for a decent send. In the second attempt. I lost connection with JJ. Attempt number three was much better.
Video two – one jump, dog on left.
Video three – Dog on left. We included second jump in this attempt.
Video 4- dog on right. We included the second jump in this attempt. You can see my disconnect on the second try.
Video 5 -one attempt at including a blind cross. I have more video of this and might share later. https://youtu.be/FeIbNs80hwM
If we get tons of snow, I’m probably gonna have to do most of my work with JJ at the club. That means less time to work with her due to the long drive. If we just have this light snow, I can still work in the backyard.
I look forward to hearing your Responses to our work.dashalin
ParticipantI wish I would have read this before my long day away from home. I leave home about 10:30 am on Tuesdays and get home about 9:30 am. I am at the club both teaching practicing and taking classes. Anyway had I read your comments before working with J, I would have wrapped my head around the reminder of the decel in this process. Not sure how much of that I did in these videos.
In the first video things went ok until the last run at position 3. https://youtu.be/1K6yOBtlg1s?si=q0AVQNajRQ1Ffqm1
Not sure what I was doing wrong here but I did it 2x in a row and then the third time I actually sent her to the left over the second jump. Not sure how/why, but it is not included due to the length of the video.
The second video with J on my right things went a bit smoother. https://youtu.be/FRwqROLfwm0?si=pqOUZNmEwkkfD0PQ
I also included a clip with spins. A bit clumsy but ok. https://youtu.be/FMRSmoy05Ao?si=s3mOSg1ugpFxwQRX
Not sure what happened when we did the blind. I do not have video, but in position 3 I could not get do the blind on time. I was too far behind.
I really worked on my connections at the start of my runs, but still need work on my exiting.
dashalin
ParticipantWell, today was more challenging for me. Again I might blame it on the space, but in reality I just could not get the info out to JJ the way I wanted to. I have a 3 min clip on doing combos with just FC. I have other video of spins for later. https://youtu.be/xlDsgFzPaNo?si=qgxQ1C3iiFUwze5X
In the first position 1 I must have been terribly late, as with the one at position 2. Slightly better at 3. No connection at position 1 with dog on right. Figured that out and fixed it. Keep using her name for the wrap which is not correct. Reviewing yours again you used your verbal for that. Do we want to add the verbals or just use the body on these. I was not super thrilled with the session in reviewing it, and look forward to your input.

ParticipantI do not know why the short wouldn’t open for you, it was listed as public. No worries. Today, we worked on the exit lines again, and I tried to stand up straighter, be more connected, give a give a better indication of the jump, and show the toy across the body. I have three shorter clips, one front crosses, one of spins, and one of rear crosses. I can see if I can do better on that on Tuesday when I get to the club.
The first video is front crosses. On the front crosses, I tried to make sure I had the toy visible in the cross arm, but I noticed in the second side I still wasn’t turning my body correctly maybe? It really helps to look over the videos as I get ready to send them. I really look forward to your input.
Next spins
I feel like I tend to be late on these spins. Again I’m in a cramped space so I’m trying to work under those guidelines. In order to do what I need to do I feel like I have to lead out a lot, but maybe that’s not really true, I’m sure you can help me on that
Finally blinds
JJ had a tough time sitting at a start line because her frisbee was on the other side of the fence. Not a good choice on my part, but it had gone over the fence earlier in the day and I hadn’t gotten it yet.
For the blind crosses I really had to make sure I indicated the jump before the cross. I tend to be late on my crosses, so maybe that’s why I crossed too early on this case. I did much better when I actually thought about indicating the jump first.

ParticipantI am always ready for spring when it is winter. I’m not much for cold. We have snow started, but are not supposed to get near as bad as the East Coast until about Tuesday. Thanks for the information on the previous video. We had already played a little bit with the exit line. I am sending the videos that I did with her on those exercises. They were a bit better today but I’ll wait to get some feedback before I send updated videos. Hopefully I can get some tomorrow, but if not, I may send those from later today.
The first video is exit line front crosses. It took me time and video review to see that I was 1. Not as connected as needed, 2. Late in my indication of the jump, 3. Trying to figure out holding the toy correctly. We did get much better at this later in the session and then again today.
I also included a short from a few minutes later. https://youtube.com/shorts/VuVyYHomEpc?si=ebWXzAxilqCJ2ncV
We also worked a bit on our start line stays which are good but not perfect.

ParticipantHelpful feedback. I tried both sides again today. We are dealing with a smaller space than I would like ( JJ thinks running off in to the woods is a cool thing to do right now☹️)and getting in as much practice as we can before the snow really flies. I will probably only be at the club once a week right now so what I can do here is important.
Your feedback was really helpful. I guess I had forgotten about the connection with JJ when I was sending her to the wings so that was super to remember. Having that connection really helped. When we practice today, I decided to use the treat and train. Problem with that was dead batteries, so I put treats in by hand And some got caught in the cover. J was obsessed by the ones in the cover.
The treat and train definitely brought her over the first jump. It really only took one try, although she also needed a reminder on the side that she had not had problems on before. I think the session went really well overall.
With JJ on the left, we just had two practices with the treat and train in the middle, and she seemed to have no problem with the jump. On the first time, I felt like my body was not facing forward, even though J did fine. I think the slowing down part for me, made me not move as well as I would have otherwise. After the first time with the treat and train, I seem to do better.
With J on the right I skipped the one time I didn’t have the treat and training in place and she went around the first jump. Once I put the treat and training in place, she went over the first jump every time. When she did not do the jump, I was very conscientious about making sure I had good connection with her the whole time. After a number of succession where the treatment train was in place after the first jump, we moved it out after the second jump J continued to do well with positions 1, 2 and three.

ParticipantStruggled at first getting the send around the wing. Just sent first tries with this. I do not have anyone around to give me feedback. My videographer, Sandie, had a knee replacement on Tuesday.
JJ sent well from the left , but I skewed up the toy hand on the first try. I never threw well left handed, but since my accident I do not throw well right handed now either. I could not get it right on this side. Is it my upper body pushing her out or is it my movement. I do not do well taking clips out of videos and linking them so is it better to do a 3 min video clip, or to do 4 miniclips, beginning -middle -end??
PS: I am having fun with this pup!!!

ParticipantDriving home from nationals tomorrow. My pups did me proud. JJ got her first two Q’s in Beginner Novice Obedience with placements, her first two Q’s in rally novice with placements, 4 Q’s in advanced scent work, her herding instinct title (2-Q’s), her B-Cat title with her first runs in fast cat running between 25-26 MPH each run, Her first time doing UpDog disc, playing 3 different games and looking good there (she only does rollers at this age), and she also got her conformation evaluation. All in all a great weekend.
JJ was the youngest dog along with her sister entered in both Ultimate and Most versatile Miniature American Shepherd with decent placements considering that she could not do agility at her age. Her Mom (Daya) took HIT novice obedience, and her grandmother (Bee) took HIT Master scent work and Detective scent work. Both Bee and Daya placed in MV and Ultimate in the top 10, Bee with a 2nd and 3rd and Daya with a 5th and 7th.
Wednesday we will be back to working with JJ on her agility skills. Along with Agility University stuff we are working with three local trainers on some of her skills. One mostly works with distance, Jen Pinder works with me on my handling and JJ on skills, and the other one is just a beginner agility class to work with dogs and trainers on simple crosses and grids and other early skills. I have to tell you I am so proud of JJ and how well she works through some of these sessions. She has a decent start line stay due to the Kato board work and the tricks you showed us to keep her on the line with an occasional “catch” or treats coming back to her, and if I give her enough information she can follow my instructions. I hope that we can work through the winter so we do not lose our skills, and I am excited to revisit almost everything in this class since we were gone so much of the time. Hopefully I will have a few more videos before the class ends.

ParticipantArgh, so far behind and leaving for our Nationals on Friday. JJ is working hard and doing well as we progress through things. I just wish we had more time and more accessibility to the equipment to work on any of these things on a more regular basis.
This is what we were able to work on today.
For the concept transfer, rear crosses, we have two videos to look at. https://youtu.be/EiYdfzQpfbE?si=YQf4lElL8aeH0Ahv
Although I’m not really supposed to be running agility right now, I figure I can work on the short little activities safe enough. I’m hoping that I get cleared to run my older dog at nationals. I have until Thursday to get his blessings.
I felt like this exercise went pretty well. I’ll look forward to any input you have.
Next exercise we worked on was the get out. We have three clips for this. I needed the bar to make sure my line was straight. I wasn’t always sure I was doing what I needed to be doing, but in the end, I feel like this went pretty well to.
The next exercise that we worked on was the zigzag, jumping Foundations, part two.https://youtu.be/NkLy6gDIDZM?si=QBIhukWPSb6cxo4T
I just did a quickie clip of this on our first practice.
The final clip for the submission was from mission transition. we did not spend much time on it. I wasn’t really pleased with our work on this. I’m not sure if we were to close together, or if my transitions were in the wrong places or watt, but JJ’s turns were really wide. I look forward to your input on this so that we can again play this game and hone our skills.
Unfortunately, after this game, I had to get ready for my next class so we didn’t get to play anymore at this time. I really am loving working with this dog and going through these activities with her. It’s so much fun to see her think and grow.

ParticipantOK we were able to get some playing in. I have not been cleared by the doctors office to do agility yet. So I’m not considering this doing agility and considering that’s just playing games with the dog. Because of that, I am very limited in using her toy as a reward. I have to be very careful that she doesn’t grab it and pull on my arm. So when I use it, I just have to drop it or try to get it with my left hand.
It looks like the last time I posted was week three so here are some week four activities.
https://youtu.be/OY4B99b4KfY?si=rYjhAzU8X9Ek7OKu I thought the letter grid activity went pretty well. The one thing I had to watch was making sure that JJ didn’t do any early takeoff. So I started using catch and throwing treats back to her. That seem to work well. https://youtu.be/piIHmr54XHM?si=sXGBkR5Oe_moZgQ2The second set of videos, all pertain to the strike a pose game. I did this with both sides of the tunnel. I don’t think my verbals row is so perfect, but I think Jay did a decent job on this. https://youtu.be/BIQ29L2tKO0?si=HNedPGNrQhnvoJaF
The third game we were done was wind in your hair, rear crosses. I have two videos on this to share. Using a right or left verbal with this actually helped me out.
I apologize as I watch these videos I’m sending I realize that I didn’t take as much time to study your videos prior. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of input on what I did.
The final game that we were done was the diamond handling game. I noticed that a lot of my stuff was too late and that it didn’t always include the correct verbal cues either. Who is really concerned about using the toy with my arm and that played a role in how I did/we did as a team. I’ll just post the five videos which are getting progressively deeper into the layers that you showed on your video. I look forward to your comments.
