Tonight went much better. We concentrated on 8 to the end.

ParticipantGood morning!
Well, I thought that we actually had some agility skills…and then we attempted the first jumpers course! 🙁
Whoa!
I am happy with obstacles 1-8 but we will need to continue to work on the rest. Our biggest struggles are getting the correct turn to my out of Tunnel 9, and then getting the jump and backside tunnel (16 and 17). I know I’m late with some cues. We will just need to keep plugging away!
This will probably be our last videos of the week. We are trialing this weekend so will be taking tomorrow off (I’d love to get outside later tonight, but who knows).

ParticipantGood afternoon!
We had to do a very quick mashup today because I didn’t have time this morning and it got hot FAST!
The video is of sequences 3-6. We are still struggling with sequence 4 at the start, so we will need to work on those more. Would it be okay to put her in her startline stay, walk out and place her tug and then release her to her tug while moving my placement each time, or is that too much of a lure and not enough of a reinforcement. In all of the starts, I’m struggling to get her to look away from me and to the jump.

ParticipantHi Barb!
It is crushed blue stone. I have an outside ring at my house, and I love the surface for outside. It drains well, and is stable (no divots, etc.). I have a larger size of the stone on the bottom and a smaller size on top. We can rake it out (and my husband created this great thing with a piece of chain link fence that he can drag behind the tractor) if/when the stone gets low or high in certain places. Neither my dogs (one young and one old) nor I (and friends who do AKC league with me) have ever had any problems running on the surface. Also, I don’t feel that it is “harder” on my joints or feet than turf.

ParticipantGood evening!
One more attempt at switches and threadles and then we added some outs. Happy with the switches and outs. Still not getting the threadle wrap. We seem to be better at getting the backside in this set, but now instead of getting a wrap, I’m getting a turn away. Very frustrated that I can’t figure this one out.

ParticipantGood afternoon,
More switching and threadling! I still don’t think I’m doing the threadles correctly, but I was happy with the switches. Question about the switches though: I’m having trouble seeing how this drill for switches will translate to the dog being way in front. Most of the time if I’m doing a switch it is because my dog is too far in front of me to do another cross.
Video: https://youtu.be/mF5rbhne_fsQuestion about the Pressure BrainCamp: I was thinking of signing up for a working spot, but Synnie is getting spayed on 3/11. Will the working skills be okay for a dog on the mend or should I just audit this one?
More good stuff at the trial this weekend. We were at Bon-Clyde. I’m not sure if you have been there, but when you exit after you run, you directly leave the building. I put the tug outside that door, and once we were about 10 feet away, Syn would tug to the point that I could “walk” her back to the car with her tug. Usually she hasn’t been that committed. She also would tug in the building but only after working the practice jump. I also think I got to the point that I went too far with her warmup and we started down the slope. Next trial I’ll work on doing the same, but then throwing in some pattern games directly after that warmup before the run to balance.
Thanks!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
Here are our serp connection and threadle wrap/switch connections. Most went okay although we did seem to have trouble with the threadle wraps. I originally was taught different body positioning for threadle wraps then what you use, so perhaps I need to change that.
Side note: We trialed at Oak Ridge the other weekend. We still can’t tug in the building and we can’t tug heading toward the door to go into the facility but, if I leave the tug outside the building on the sidewalk, we can SOMETIMES tug after a run moving away from the building. PROGRESS!!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
It is amazing how easy it is to run my imaginary dog…then when Synnie joins me, my brain goes away!! I think we (meaning I) did a little better today, and we added more sequencing. I’m also seeing that I am able to identify the problems before you point them out when I watch the video. For example, at around :34, my arms are all over the place, and therefore we didn’t get the 360!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
We moved onto Shifting Connection, because as always, I’m behind schedule. I want to work more on the timing of verbals and connection/arm as you mentioned in the previous feedback, but that will be for another day. The weather is not cooperating with us here!
We didn’t get through the entire sequence because, although the dog was wonderful, the handler struggled and made the dog do way too many reps just to get what you see in this video! 🙂 I’m not sure why my brain makes this so hard.
However, I was happy to see how much better this went with Syn compared to when we first worked countermotion in MaxPup2?? or 3?? I went back to look at some of those videos and her commitment is much better!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
Finally have the field back to some normalcy after the storms! Hope you weren’t affect too much!
Today we worked on the sends.
Overall pretty good I think. My arm still doesn’t need to go up so far and I completely forgot the blind cross rule here. Will have to practice those!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
We worked on the combo connection today, but we trialed all weekend and we both (well maybe just me) were tired. I struggle so much with blind crosses.
Video: https://youtu.be/bGQnUTc6Ay8At the trial this weekend, I forced myself to do blinds…some worked well but we also had a jumpers run that was a serious crash and burn. I’m struggling with when to look at my dog for connection and when I’m just looking at my dog because I don’t trust her (or am admiring her beauty! 🙂 ), which then makes everything I do late. Since I didn’t do a toy in the ring for the trial, I made myself grab the opposite pocket in my vest to get the arm across the body.
Thanks!

ParticipantGood evening!
Last posting of this session…we have learned so much!!
I feel like the threadle got a bit stronger. However, we added the ending and I seem to always be late with my blind. Is that why she is always bumping the first wing of the last jump?
Serp sequence: again, my blind is late and she saves me by getting on the right side. The blind is late here because I’m pulling her over the second jump of the serp. What do I need to do better with my body to keep her going over that jump instead of past it?Video: https://youtu.be/-QcQvkoAjAk
Thanks so much for everything!!

ParticipantGood evening!
Moving to the Adding Complexity! Our first run of The first part of Sequence 1 was awesome. I was very happy with it. It kinda went downhill from there… 🙂
From looking at the video, it seems that if I use my threadle arm to also send her to the jump after pulling her in, it works well. But if for some reason, I switch to trying to push to the jump with the other arm, we get the threadle but not the jump (or is it my motion…was I moving too far past the jump?)

ParticipantGood Afternoon!
It was great meeting you this weekend! We had such a good time and learned so much for Synnie and in general. I’m getting a deaf foster puppy in the next week or two and the “find my face” game has so many applications for a deaf sport dog! I’m also looking forward to getting the Advanced Sporty Brain materials for the Extended Chill information, as I’m thinking it is something that I really need to work with Syn.
Still struggling with that line of jumps when we enter the left tunnel entrance. One time it worked with a switch command before jump 5 to switch to jump 6. Do you want us to definitely handle from that side? I was thinking that I might be able to get over between jumps 5 and 6 and blind or front to straighten the line a bit for her. I can’t seem to figure out how to have her NOT slice jump 5 which puts her line around jump 6.

Question: Synnie went into season over the weekend, I usually don’t have dogs that are at this point and not spayed. Do you do anything different…not train as much, etc.?
Thanks!

ParticipantGood evening!
Today we broke things up into two sessions. I know I was pushing her a bit hard because I’m behind and trying to catch up.
At lunch, we did the tunnel discrims and added in some of the remote reinforcement for after the run. Not sure if you can see that clearly, but we left the ring on leash and tugged.
Video: https://youtu.be/Nz2eM3DpvNE
After work, we rebuilt the course for the Package 3 “go ons” and worked those a bit. The warmups went well and the first sequence I thought was great, but I’m really messing up the second sequence where she is coming out the far end of the tunnel. I seem to be directing her to slice the jump after the tunnel so she misses the second jump.

I’m hoping we don’t get too much rain on Sunday because I want to rake and respread the stone in field. I noticed today that there are some really hard spots and then some really “deep” spots with lots of stone. That probably isn’t helping her with the jumping on top of my bad timing. It is amazing how I consciously try to make sure that I don’t talk over the jumps and then watch the video and….I’m talking over the jumps! Thanks!
