Keep reminding me about that convergence. I have been working a lot on lateral distance with her and it’s much different running a little dog – my body seems to want to converge more on her line than the big dog’s line. But I want it to be the same, so the skills are the same.

I repeated the wing wrap again and put the brake on my speed. I used the “GO GO GO” cue to send her forward and rewarded her by tossing the frisbee.

I also tried the wrap discrimination. She got really ramped up and there was some barking!!! I left in the entire session – mistakes and all. She was pretty good discriminating the cues. The mistakes she made were because she didn’t wait for me. πŸ™‚

We’re looking forward to seeing you! Crossing fingers that the GORGEOUS weather we have been having will hold up for another week. Looks like it might.

Tonight after setting up courses for the week, I did the wrap exercises. I was very happy with it.

What a great idea about locking the bar in. I do that for other things, but didn’t think about it here.

Yeah, I knew that I was moving in towards her to put more pressure on the line. The last time I worked this with her she even had trouble with that. I didn’t want to get too greedy in this session.

    I’ll set it up tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments. I will continue to work on this and post a video if I get a chance. Today we worked on the backside from the tunnel. I set this up in the very same place in the course where she had issues. I was really pleased with this session because it’s the first time I’ve felt that she had some understanding of what she was supposed to do rather than “fishing” for the right answer by trying different things. The outside arm seemed to work well for her and I think that is going to help her understanding of the the verbal. One bar came down, but it looks like it was her tail that knocked it.

Thanks for the input for the course work. I’m finding it helpful to use her name occasionally to get her attention. She responds nicely to it in the situations where there might be drift.

I didn’t get to do much today and it was super humid outside. But I set up the jump to the tunnel and gave it a try with her. I only did 4 repetitions – 2 at 16″ and 2 at 20″. When I edited the video, I noticed that she wacked the bar with her front feet on the first rep at 20″. I didn’t know that – although I probably would have still rewarded her. She doesn’t like dropping bars and as it turns out the next one was good.

I set up the Novice courses today. WOW, do we ever have some work to do!! They were super difficult for both of us. I couldn’t get myself into critical spots to handler her and she wasn’t responding to verbals cues – which means she doesn’t know them very well.

    Sequence 1
I really wanted to get a blind cross in between 8 & 9. But that didn’t happen. Had to rely on a verbal turn cue (which I was really glad to see she responded to) because I was not in a good place. That last jump was hard to see for her and Lever had the same problem. The last jump was placed in an area (kind of an inlet) that I usually don’t place jumps. I think they saw the tree line and stopped looking for a jump.

    Sequence 2

We had a lot of issues at the backside of the jump out of the tunnel – #7. Probably the excitement of coming out of the tunnel. We will need to work on this! And because she needed my position closer to her to guarantee the back side, I was out of position for the BC between 8 and 9.

    Sequence 3

This sequence (assuming that #11 was wrong) had a bunch of skills that we’ve struggled with in the past. I was super happy to get the Forced FC at the start because this was something she couldn’t do a few months ago. I tried a few things that made no sense to her and decided to drop it and come back to it later with more training and experience. I rewarded it a few times, but didn’t want to push the commitment part quite yet in order for me to get ahead.

I forgot the #10-#12 (which I think should have been 11) and I went directly to #13. That was a mistake, but it was a great skill to work on – turn away on the flat.

    Hey there,
Could you take a look at the Novice Course work – Sequence 3. I don’t think it’s numbered correctly. Something happens after the tunnel #10. Maybe #11 goes away and #12 tunnel becomes 11? and so on? If you could take a look at that and let me know, that would be great. I have it set up today and probably need to mow the lawn afterwards, so if I don’t hear back I will run it without #11.

    Hey there,
I set up the Novice sequences today. I thought about doing Masters, but then quickly got smart and decided to go with her level. There’s plenty to work on there for us!! If we don’t have the basics, then Masters won’t work very well.

I thought these went pretty well. Some wide turns and late verbals, but mostly good stuff.

    Sequence 1

    Sequence 2

I changed this sequence because of the zig zag confusion. The comments are in the video.

Good morning. I thought I’d check in and let you know that we are taking a little break from training because Differ came in season. She was doing okay, but now all she is interested in are the boys. She is in standing heat right now. Lever only gets interested when it’s time – for about 3-4 days and we are in that period right now. She’s quite focused and ready to work indoors, but I keep it easy. Outdoors is tricky. I want Lever there because of wildlife and other dogs. But that’s not going to work now.

I suspect it will be a few more days before we start moving out of this phase.

    > I think this session went well!
I was happy with it, except for the slippery eel moves at the start. Once I untangled her, it felt better.

    > And the zig zag grids are transferring: her jumping on these difficult slices was
    > MUCH more organized!!!!! I know there was not a TON of speed yet but there was a more

I thought so, too. I didn’t want to add much speed in here. Oh, and I meant to say this before, minimizing my motion made it much more difficult for me to handle! I wanted to move a lot more on the serpentines.

This was also more difficult to handle when she was in a stop. It feels better when everything is moving because I don’t have to think about it as much.

    > When you do add in the convergence to backside – do just one rep then do a bunch of

I don’t worry too much about the convergence threadles. She does those pretty nicely and doesn’t need a lot of pressure, if I’m in the right spot.

And yes, with Pose (and Lever was the same way) I have to do a lot of balance work to make sure they understand the difference.

Parallel universes!! Lever was the same way. Now at 7 years of age, he’s sorting it up. They are growing up, Tracy!!! ;-P

    > I don’t know if Pose will get herself into a convergence loop like that, but we can help her

I can guarantee she will do that because she takes after her Dad in that area. Funny because she is different in many ways than Lever. But in many ways, she is very similar.

    Thanks again!!

Hey there, question about your last response. You mentioned that I should keep the same spacing. Do you mean put the jumps in a straight line? Or should there be spacing between them?

I did the Skill sets today and had some unusual issues at the start. She was threadling between the jumps instead of doing the straight ahead jump on the parallel path serpentine. When I looked at the video, I realized that she’s in that Zig Zag pattern and I think that’s why she was doing that. I skipped the convergence between the jumps because during this session. Weather was gorgeous today.

Oh that’s awesome! I can’t wait to see the video.

Here’s a video of our session today. She was brilliant. I did two repetitions at the slightly open state, then straightened the jumps. She was mostly balanced throughout all of the reps. Very happy with it.

    Hey there,
I actually had the toy on the ground for a couple of early repetitions. So, yes, I can do that.

And you are so right that I should have ended the session. Duh.

    Thanks!

Differ does put 1000% into everything she does.

Thanks for the comments. Differ is in season and has been for a little over a week. She hasn’t changed much, but occasionally I see moments where she gets mentally tired sooner. I did the serpentine session again and tried to incorporate your comments from memory, but I forgot your comment that I didn’t have to hold the target hand as low. I will remember that comment from now on because – IT’S HARD to do!!!

I skipped the slices and went right to the harder serps. She did well (although she was looking off into the woods occasionally – which she hasn’t done before during our sessions).

I added a little motion into the last rep… couldn’t help myself.

I set up the 3 jump zig zag grid again today. She did great and had mostly great form with them slightly open. I added a little motion and then gradually increased motion. I wasn’t sure what to do next – whether to increase the height and keep the slightly open grid or keep the jumps at 12″ and close the opening. I opted to straighten up the line. She had a little trouble at first, but eventually figured it out. Looking forward to comments and suggestions on how to proceed. I’ll set it up again on Monday.
