ParticipantHi,
What kind of connection do you use in a layering situation? Rachel told us that we should be converging on the Dog’s path and using big time connection. If i turn into the dog making extreme connection is the dog going to turn into me? (I think that these various connections are becoming a jumble in my brain!!!)Helen

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
The power bowls are helping us get into the agility area of the past 2 seminar weekends.
And now, with the suggestion of the past 2 instructors, Rachel Sanders and Amanda Shyne, changtse is dragging a line during her turns. Rachel and Amanda say that Changtse doesn’t want to make decisions and that the line creates her mental pathway to me as the decision maker! Changtse seems much more relaxed now. We even shortened the line so that she could jump.
Yesterday was an Obstacle commitment Seminar. We worked a lot of countermotion games, one of which was the reverse wrap. A few weeks ago, getting Changtse to wrap jumps was not happening. She would just freeze. Now that she feels divorced from making decisions, she is not freezing. Would this be your take?R-Wrap At Riverside K9 18Feb2024

ParticipantHi,
Here is some Push to the back side training. I think that we need to do a ton more of this training before I can be confident that she is going take the jump opposite to my motion.Training Push 15Feb2024

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
In class today, Changtse did some sequencing, albeit very simple. She has been so distracted that have not been able to do much and at home we have had other problems. She was on her game. At the start line on her first time thru, she wasdistracted by the “gallery” so I did some Up[ & Down with her. That really helped her to focus! Yay!!!
Now that she seems to be happy in running, I can hopefully begin sending her more so that I can get ahead!Distracted at SL. Did Up & Down. 16Feb2024
In the next video, you can see that my exitline connection is shabby at best! Aanyway, perhaps, now, I have a dog to practice it with.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
With Liverwurst will play! Yourhigh value treats are doing their magic.
On these “outs”, my outside arm seems tepid! I think that the verbal didthe trick.
This if the first time in weeks/months that changtse has volunteered to play the game for more than just 1 or 2 obstacles! Hellalluya!!!Third WK Combos 8Feb2024

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
The chicken seems to be working.
Submitted this video on Monday, but it didn’t seem to stick!! Don’t know what happened. I posted it and then watched it, I thought!!Xtreme Cnct 4Jan2024
EVen though it isn’t great handling, I was thrilled that we wereableto play a little bit more.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for your suggestion to use a more hi value treat! Bought a roast chicken. It is helping. The included video is from yesterday. It went better than the past days.
Today, I set up a straight tunnel and 6 weave poles with wires. That session went a little better than yesterday’s! Inch by inch!!! If I work obstacles that she likes then the others come into play more easily, eg, wraps go better when she is pumped.
Granted our “out” s were lousy handling wise,ie, feet helping with the direction of the “out” and my eyes are not looking into Changtse’s eyes.Xtreme Cnct 4Jan2024

PS, am heartened by C’s rising to the occasion with the chicken!!

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
I sent an animal communicator 5 questions about Changtse.
Here is her response:Hi Helen, I worked with Changste for you, please see below:
Warm Regards,
Animaltelepathy.comDog’s name: Changtse
Alive, 2 yr 3 mo, Female spayed, Somersworth, NH
Questions:
1. Why does Changtse refuse/freeze to perform an agility obstacle or sequence? She shows me that it is as if she feels overwhelmed or has too many thoughts at once and she gets stressed and shuts down. She says that she would rather refuse or freeze than do it wrong.
2. Is training in agility so stressful that she does not want to do it for more than a few minutes and then not do it again for several days? When I ask her this she says yes, time off helps.
3. Does she object to wrapping a jump stanchion tightly? She says yes.
4. What are her favorite obstacles in agility? When I ask her this she shows me going under something (tunnel?) and then she shows me the single jumps and the table.
5. Does she like “searching” for the odor in the game of nosework? She says yes, but she has to learn to keep going she says. She says that sometimes she worries that she lost the scent. But she loves the challenge of it very much.Thank you for your answers,
Helen Connell & Changtse
<End of email to the communicator>Tracy, what are your suggestions as to how to resolve the too many thoughts and being overwhelmed? Is not part of this delemma getting exposure to distractions?
Her response to the nose work question was encouraging!

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Well, now Changtse is not even making a mistake. She is just refusing to do a sequence. I tried to change the suject to ball playing and 4 WPs. She lit up about the WPs, but then after a few times thru, she said no more. She loved the ball playing.
I began the afternoon with Nuptse playing, hoping that would get Changtse wanting to play but to no avail.
Nuptse really helped me with the eyes in changing connection to my hands. When I did look at my hands, I found that I was better able to connect with Nuptse after he executed the turn!!!! It was exhilerating!Tandem Turns & Threadle Wraps 28Dec2024

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for the tossing the treat to the landing side! that helped changtse no end.
She eventually did her freeze behavior and I couldnot change the subject enough with ball playing to get her back to running the sequence.
In class yesterday, the instructor said that C does not want to be wrong and shuts down whenshethinks that she is wrong. Afterher saying that , I got out the 2 bowls to work the short sequences. C was successful! Here is our video in our yard:

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
thanks for the harness info. Had notthought about it impeding that way.
Have been struggling with getting changtsse to participate in the sequences, but today had more success. Also, Leash on Leash off is going super well in our yard. I realize now that her unable to sit at the start line needs more arousal. Forgot that today. The magic word from MYOB is working as well as the neighborhood distractions. Have a video to demo anincident today.
Note the treat to be tossed is the distraction at thejump when C stalls before the jump.Shifting Cnct 15Jan2024

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for your observations. Her harness is a Freedom Harness. It is not supposed to impede the dog’s motion. Our Chiropractor checked out the harness on Changtse and agrees that it allows her to move freely.
Today, we had a great practice session. As you can see in one of the clips, she takes a mmoment. This is new and has something to do with not being able to run the fence!!! We did lots of change the subject between sequences, eg, going to the table, playing tug, and tricks. This is all halping!!!!!Exit Line Cnct 6Jan2024

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
>>What I am now struggling with is Changtse’s not wanting to start a sequence or part of a sequence, eg, asking her to wrap the wing in the following Game wasn’t always desirable.>>Hmmmmm that is interesting – do you have video so I can try to see why it might have been happening?
Here is an example:

And exit line connection should really help on those tunnel exits, I believe!

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
How to train a start line stay? I think that Changtse has mental difficulties with the stay at the jump at the start of a seq.
The following video shows her with a sequence. There is definitely something gping on with her that I do not understand.Middle Seq Pkg 4 16Dec2023
