ParticipantHi, tracy,
Thanks for your comments…very helpfu. After absorbing your suggestions, I went out to walk and run course #3. I felt better about the entire walk thru and run. I can see that I can pour on more connection in places where Nuptse needs to change path. I think that I have been lazy! Saying the verbals earlier and often helped me feel freer!PKG 4 Seq 3 Walk Thru 8Aug2021

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Those exercises of following the path and avoidinng off course obs was well worth the practice!
AS FOR WALKING THE COURSE, I workded all day on these sequences. First walking sequences 2 & 3 as well as running them. Watching the videos, they were a mess!!! Took a breaather and then went to sequence #1. My big problem is working out the timing of my cue with Nuptse’s landing and then cuing as you will see after #6 and then cuing 7 & 8. Trying to use verbals and execute lateral motion were similar to patting my head and rubbing my tummy, esp for a 180 or a serp!PKG 4 Seq 1 Walk Thru 7Aug2021

ParticipantHi, Tracy.
Thank you for all your comments about assessing the backsides crib sheet and the standard course.
This exercise of learning to not take off-course obstacles Nuptse & I did in Sylvia Trkman’s Extreme foundations class several years ago, but Sylvia had us saying “Close” to get by unwanted obstacles. She did not emphasize connection so much, but probably she was doing it herself. “Close” slows down the dog.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Here is our next iteration of this Std course 1. Gotta work on our “in-in”from the WPs to Jump #9.PKG 3 Course 1 Take 2 1Aug2021

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Am trying to create a crib sheet for when walking a course for Backside Decisions. Tried to whittle down your Decisions going into a Backside turn as follows:Which Way to Turn Given a Backside of Jump N
For choosing the Entry line to jump N
To each wing of N, which is the faster path
from obs N-1 to the wing of N?
Which means the straightest possible line with the fewest turns or lead changes.
Then look at the natural landing spot based on coming
around that wing and its orientation to the exit line.
Note: Look for the slice landing spots first,
because the slices are almost always faster
than the wraps on the backsides of jumps.
Have 4 choices:
Enter wing A and Exit Wing B. (Slice)
Enter Wing B and Exit Wing A (Slice)
Enter Wing A and exit Wing A (Wrap)
Enter Wing B and exit Wing B (Wrap)
If the Slice entry and exit look better then all done.
If the Wrap looks like the better choice, perhaps
The slice from the other wing to the better exit wrap line will be faster.
Here, it is important to walk the distance from N-1 to N+1.Does this cover the Decisions?

ParticipantHi, tracy,
Thank you heaps for your explanation for selecting which way from the back side. It helped me enormously!!
Decided to work some of the standard courses. Had to modify, trying to emulate the intent of the course.
How to add a pdf file?
this was very instructive in that had to use directionals for distance work here and no obstacle names.PKG 3 STD course Map 31July2021
We just did 1 – 10 today.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Am still not sure of the definition of the entry for the BS. Is it the path and the landing spot or just the landing spot? When you talk about entry = exit for a BS decision, do you mean that the same wing is used for entry and exit? Here is our #4 seq:

I calc’d 0.73 sec longer for the wrap!

ParticipantGood Morning, tracy,
Went on the road yesterday with our focus mat.
The first place was the boring church grass area. N did super fine there.
Then we went to the edge of Walmart’s parking lot, whch is the first clip.
After that we visited the HD area. Bought groceries and
then worked in the cemetery, clips 2 & 3. I was amazed at the change
from Walmart’s to the cemetery.Road Show Mat Focus 25July2021

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thank you again for the definitions. They help a lot!
Here is Seq #2. The #5 wrap was the choice outcome. The #5 Slice won by 0.64 sec!Pkg 3 Seq 2 25July2021

ParticipantWe are getting there! thank you for answering!
I guess with going thru these sequences, etc and spelling out the decisions, I shall get a better handle for them.
Thanks heaps!

ParticipantIn your discusion with regard to decisions, y ou discuss the 3 rules for which way to take a ju mp:
1. Where does the Dog naturally land.
2. What is the best line from the exit of the decision jump
3. how many turns are requir3ed to get to the next line?
4. Calc the3 distance.So my questins are:
1. what do you define as exit?
2. How do y ou define a turn?
3 What are the start and stop points of the distance calculation?Helen Connell
ParticipantI a referring to your discusion regarding decisions.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Moving to the Sequences. Please explain:
Where is the exit of a jump?
What is the definition of a turn?
When counting the distance, should we begin where the 2 paths diverge and then proceed to the entrance of the obstacle n+1?Here is our 1st Seq:
