ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for your suggessting that Changtse see a vet and other people to check out her health. The only things that showed up were her pelvis and head out of allignment. The chiropractor said that the head out of adjustment can cause emotional issues.
So went out to practice a simple sequence where we practiced the leash coming off and on. In the next to last clip, you can see that she balked at my wanting to remove her leash, but stepping on it quelled her desire to play “Game On!”. In the last clip, she is fine with my removing her leash!!! Yay!!!Simple Seq Treat Leash On Ball! 15Dec2023
W/r to remote reinforcement, I am sensing that I need to go extremely slowly with her. Perhaps, I should start with just doing some tricks that she knows very well and going to the remote reinforcement. Then take that on the road before introducing agility obstacles with Remeote R. What do you think?

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for your leash ideas for Changtse. Used a drag line yesterday in class. You will see at the beginning of the video, I needed to step on the line before she escaped. That was the start of our 2nd sequencing session. She is becoming more and more hesitant about performing certain obstacles. The current one is the tunnel!!! She is super insecure or something! How to make her more confident?
The one obstacle that she is still doing while dragging a line is the weave poles although not with a lot of zest.
When I begin doing tricks with her, she is hesitant, but then begins to warm up to doing stronger and stonger hand touches (HT). Then I can do other tricks. In Class dragging line 6Dec2023

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thank you for your responce.
To answer your questions:<Is this a relatively new behavior in class (not wanting to be leashed or caught at the end)?>
No, it has been going on here and there for 6 or so months, but Wednesday was extremely bad. This behavior more or less became obvious, when we were working the Teeter Elevator game this summer. She did not like the restraint with “1-2-3, Target!”, because of the jolting noise as the board dropped, all be it only about 2 – 3 “. (We had already done this maneuver a fewtimes.) After that touching her was not allowed in certain situations.
In Wednesday’s class, for the first session, we ended with the table, where i leashed her up with no problem. But to line her up to start, i had to drop treats on the floor and then use the board for her sit/stay.
During hiking, <when she is on the long line, how is her recall? Definitely keep rewarding that.>
Her recall is surprisingly good in the woods when she is far from me, but as she reaches me, she may keep her leashing distance from me. She also will come for a treat here and there during the hike. It is during one of these treat sessions towards the end that I step on the long line and leash her up for the rest of the hike. She is fine with this leashing, ie, she shows no upsetting behavior and is happy to walk or pull depending on the distractions.
<When does she start avoiding getting the leash back on?>
When she does not want to stop whatever we/she are/is doing! She will not go to the cato board at such a time. She recognizes all the situations where i might leash her up, except getting cornered in an enclosed space, eg, a shed. Once at the end of July, I was picking her up at a boarding kennel for dogs. Her leash was not secured. She escaped. She played “Game On!” with everyone trying to catch her. Eventually, one of the hired helpers opened the pen gate. She went in and so did I! I sat down in a chair to rest. The pen is about 100′ by 150′. Changtse just walked over to me and said “hello.”
She accepted the leash.Hope that these answers help you formulate a plan. We surely need one and thank you.
Helen
PS I nmany ways, Changtse is a sweet girl with some very nice habits, that she has created herself, eg, She sits and waits for “Break” to come into the house. She goes into her crate in the early morning when it is time for me to get dressed. At a Training place, Riverside, she will often go into her crate when she has had enough. (This was last year. maybe not now.) When she comes into the house from the yard, I ask her for her long line leash. She comes to me, sits and I remove the leash. (Now, Iam asking for a trick b4 releasing her per your T2T games.)

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Here is some video from our class yesterday. Changtse is creating a neural pathway that should be erased!!! She doesn’t want to be touched nor leashed in class. While hiking, she has a long line on, which is working fabulously! Thank you for the suggestion!!! But to do agility, a long line doesn’t work.Could not let her off leash in this video, because of other dogs on the floor.

In the next video, at the start line, she sat on the Cato Board. After the AF, she wouldn’t go into the tunnel.

After the 2nd session, i could not put Changtse on leash. There is an Aussie in the class that changtse loves. We let Changtse play with the Aussie and while she was distracted, someone grabbed Changtse’s harness from behind.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Well, Changtse’s fun leash became too much fun, as you can see in the first clip. Eventually, had to cut down the sequences to more workable ones.
Then went in the house and began some impulse control games to help Chnagtse bypass desirable things until released to them. The 2nd video is doing just what we did inside yesterday but today outside.End Of Course Seq 2 & 3 24Nov2023

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Hope that your are recovering and that you had some fun runs last week.Worked on the start line last night. Was soo worth while going thru the motions! Changtse always likes to rehearse maneuvers. Added herrunningafter the ball at the end of the video justso that you could see what speed sheis capable of!!

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Do not know when you have time for these postings!!!
The Cato Board is a smashing success with keeping changtse focused and more or less calm.In this sequence video, which is her 2nd session on the floor working a sequence, she goes away to the other dog in the class, who is behind a fence. She doesn’t stay long and returns to the Cato Board when called! then she works the sequence.

ParticipantGreat, Tracy!!!
Changtse is on a roll with the Cato Board! Still could not get her hyper arouused, but she seemed very relaxed. She even took a proper moment, ie, she left and came back not spending much time at all away!Tomorrow, will take her for a hike with a long line. Thanks for telling me to keep it simple ,ie, do not put on & Off the leash while hiking for now.
Then late in the day, we go to class! Will use the Cato Board and start out with a very simple sequence of just a tunnel! And then go from there.

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thank you for your suggestions. Here is a variation on the cato board theme. It went very well while she is not over the top aroused. Next, plan to take your hiking suggestion to a highly charged fenced in area to see whether I shall be able to put on her leash treat and then remove leash to”hike” some more.
(Training her to put her head thru a loop to become a leash doesn’t bode well with her mindset.)First Cut. Cato Brd. Leash On. Leash Off. Play. 12Nov2023

ParticipantHI, Tracy,
How do I dial down Changtse’s arousal?
After she is running on a course or while hiking, I cannot then put on her leash. She doesn’t want me to touch her, which comes from the elevator game for the teeter…where restraining her, saying “1-2-3 ” and then dropping the board, scared her. That was the incident that completely clinched the deal with her not wanting me to touch her. She has been squeamish from the get go. (She still will not get into the tub!)

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
<But when you put a cookie in your hand, or reached for the ball… back to full speed! >
Yes, had removed my apron and bait bag. I think that is why Changtse was even more attentive to my empty hands. So took your advice,ie, “Let’s Go!” to treats in the house. Then worked it in the yard for a bit where it went well. We graduated from a few steps to 4 or 5 steps to a jump with a sit and run back to the treats. Then sit in front of the jump while I went to the Landing side, called her and then “Let’s Go!” to the treats. Repeated this series of steps at All Dogs Gym today. Changtse was not exuberant to say the least!

ParticipantGood afternoon!
Thanks for your observations in the trial setting. Can easily move into the more distracting from the less distracting. There is a practice room just to the side of the crate room. WE did work in there between the 2 clips that you saw. And she was able to focus better.
Here is Changtse 2 days later at home. I feel that her confidence got a boost at the trial! She came home just like my other dogs do from competing in a trial…aroused and fiesty!Mid Course Seq #1 6Nov2023
I tossed her leash before beginning the 2nd seq. She had to run by it from the tunnel exit to jump #3….a teaching moment for me. Gotta train the exit leash game, ie, when to get a leash and when to ignore it.

PS Because of your Connection Webinar, spent an hour this AM learning how to loosen up my upper bod from my lower bod so that I can do a proper BC with my outer shoulder turned towards the dog upon completion of the BC. For me, it is not about the ease on the knees when doing a BC, but the stiffness in the hips. My exercise now is to do variations on the grapevine exercise. The good things that will result from your webinar are infinite!!!Helen Connell
ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Thanks for your responce before we went to the trial. It was so worth it to go thru this session.
Changtse grew more accustomed to the trial setting, but watching the 2 juxtaposed clips, 3 hours apart and start and end times out on the floor, not so sureyou can see any change! At Trial. Get It! & Hand Touches 4Nov2023

ParticipantHi, Tracy,
Watched your Monday’s Zoom….good stuff! It never hurts to hear about the inner workings of the brain over and over again and how it pertains to our dogs….just like handling..gotta review it often.
And you were so lucky to have only audited the seminar with the Russian Instructor! I spent an entire afternoon with her sitting at a table repeating “Wrong” and showing us videos of how to do it right!!!!
You were right on about using higher value treats for the “Get It!” Pattern Game. I juxtaposed our class room “Get It!” with our yard in the following video. There is still a difference.
With the trying to begin a Sequence and C’s taking off, I should have acted sooner in getting a pattern game going, because she wan’t just taking a moment. It seemed to degenerate into comfortable sniffing.Get It! & Find My Face. 1 & 2Nov2023
PS. Am taking Changtse to a trial tomorrow just to be in the trial atmosphere and to practice pattern games, tricks, and Find My Face. We have not gone to a trial since Sept 2022!!! If possible, will video. I feel that it is going to be a long time before we enter the trial ring even in FEO status. Even though Nuptse seemed very ready to compete and did so very well in the beginning, he burned out, because I did not recognize the signs of his stress.
