So funny you suggested turning the game perpendicular because I tried that FIRST and felt super awkward with my handling (see video), until I realized I wasn’t running the way you showed in your videos. So please enjoy this outtake of me using the incorrect close arm to reward with toy and the awkward collision of puppy, toy, me before I figured out to rewatch the lecture video 😂

    Turn & Burn

Risk is starting to have a better handle of his body, including limb awareness and not knocking things over OR attacking the cones, so here is our turn and burn session.

Larger hamper coming later this week 😁

Backing up update! He’s getting it!

I’ve been testing to see if he understands “beep beep” in newer settings and he also seems to be picking that up.

    Thouhts?

We’re still alive! We’ve been taking the games pretty slowly and I haven’t done a lot of turn & burn game with Risk simply because he’s still figuring out his body and where all his legs go. We are still building on week 1-2 games at this time. Is that ok to move slower?

    Hind End Awareness
I think I am marking at the wrong time… he did a back up beautifully the first two times, but then I think he was so focused on getting the treat that the rest of the back up session looks horrible… am I doing something wrong? ACK.

    Goat Tricks + Movement
Adding in a wobble board – he has seen his before. Still working on body awareness and balance skills with all 4 on the board.

    Nose to Target
He may have got the target in his mouth the last time we did this exercise… oops!

    Wing Wrap Foundations
Started right away with a cone. When I move it a little further from me, he decided he wanted to cut corners and go in a straight line to the food ha!
So the next day (11/26), I kept it close.
Will continue to work on distance of the cone for the wrap.

Just wanted to reply to this thread about Goat Tricks and say that while I don’t have in-the-moment video, Risk has figured out to get on top of things (he does this no problem & we don’t call him “Mountain Goat” for nothing!) and offers this behavior.

Key Example is when we were taking down the A-frame this past weekend, he offered all 4’s on the A-frame (it was flat on ground). I treated him for it, so he stayed on it and then I released him with “break.”

This skill is going well and very natural for him.

I read your suggestion about the bowl or towel and thought to myself “DUH! Why couldn’t I think of such an easy solution?!” 😛

Sometimes I just am not thinking small enough steps. SO grateful for your guidance!!!

Wing Wrap Foundations Attempt 4 with Food (Adding in Cone After 1 Rep)
His mechanics and movement between bowls is much better!
I inserted play between 5-6 cookies & then added the cone.
    Thoughts? Feedback?

    Drive Ahead/Focus Forward Attempt 2
I remember the first online class a week ago, he flanked a bit when I tried upping my speed running beside him. Now, I think he understands the game better. We’ve played this game multiple times over the past week, just haven’t always had a mind to film it. We’ve also taken the game and tried is in the living room with success. Eventually hoping to transition to outdoors or the hallway of the house.

    Blind Cross Foundation Fun
Man… I really need to work on my mechanics! I even practiced them sans puppy before adding Risk into the equation! 😛
Watching the video back, I realize I need to blind sooner, don’t I….?

Also, side note: The reason I haven’t thrown treat back in a send fashion for my exercises is because I haven’t found a large enough cookie that Risk can actually SEE when I throw it… TBD but just wanted to explain why I haven’t been throwing the cookie.

Should I remove the two bowls during the toy play break during this exercise? To keep him focused instead of trying to go back to the bowls?

Wing Wrap Foundations Attempt 3 with Food (No Cone)
Back to two bowls & food. No cone.
This is a longer video of almost 2 minutes. Now that I rewatch it, I feel I should’ve kept the session shorter. What do you think?
I think he is starting to get the back & forth better so I will do another short few sessions of this and bring the cone back in.

    Goat Tricks 1
    Hi Tracy,

Before I get into filming our Goat Tricks game, I had a question – How long do you want us to have the puppy stay on the object?

I ask this question because Risk and I have been practicing this “game” with his Klimb. I can set the Klimb down, run away from it with him, and he’ll actively seek out the Klimb again to either sit or lie down on it and stay there for *short* periods of time. Since he’s still a baby, he does get bored or distracted easily if my rate of reinforcement isn’t high.

So now as I’m preparing to pick a new object for this goat trick game, if he happens to understand rather quickly that he should get up on the object and stay there, how long is the maximum amount of time you want us reinforcing the goat behavior on the object? 2 minutes?

    Thanks!
