I don’t have any video of the above event. do you want some trial videos?? not sure what to post for his intro videos. he’s sweet and easy to work with, a little too calm at times for a young Bc agility prospect! great startline stay (not 100% but very very good), can be a little shy with new people, plays nicely with the few dogs outside of my own that I let my dogs socialize with and fine with new dogs at the beach etc.

Yes all that sounds about right. I hadn’t noticed the difference in left and right turns or lack of head turn.
is the head turn game where you were word as soon as they turn away from you on a barrel or cone or wing? Or is there another head turn game that you’re referring to?
it’s funny because I did just revisit the baby steps of rewarding circling a cone and marking when he turns head away but I’m thinking maybe there was another game that you know of that I missed?

I will definitely go back to just using wings and not the jumps Because the low jumps aren’t really teach him anything about how to jump anyway.

so I will keep working on this and then the next question is do I also continue with some of the other games that don’t involve collection and transitions?

    Here’s vid from yesterday.
@about 0.33 my rotation looks about early enough yet he still goes wide. I don’t see him collecting much.

You can see I did a few efforts from close to the jump…so it wasn’t showing transition but jus showing him the tight turn cues to make sure he wasn’t getting confused.

Short race game at the end , video didn’t capture most of it and we did that or similar several times. He loves that! And I made sure to ask him to take the jump..he ran around it a couple times until I used stronger connection and gave better backside cues (verbal and body).

Yep I do understand that the decel cues collection and my rotation should cue a tight turn.
I’m sure my timing can be better (I am almost always late on the turn cue..I don’t think he is reading the decel so his speed is the same, no collection which doesn’t give me much time to rotate)

maybe do more come to heel flat work for collection?

I will also try your suggestions above.

I can see him landing hard to make up for lack of collection and trying to get the turns in as best he can so I want to try another way to break this down for him.

I am also working on loose leash walking and changing my walk speed/posture so he pays attention to my speed. Didn’t take long to get this in a medium distraction environment.

I did the transition game a couple more times but still late on my rotation..seems like I just get 2 extension strides (for me) then it’s time to decel and by the time I decel he’s committed and one stride from take off…and needs turn cue…so decel/turn cue almost need to happen same time? Tried longer space and he was faster so it was harder to show decel etc.
A couple times when I decelled he stopped and turned around before the jump too..

I can post another video but it’s about same as the first.

I actually did have some wings out there to mark my decel and turn places but I felt like I only took 2 running strides or less and it was time to decel! so I will try with more distance and see if it goes better. And remember to start next to the cone.

Was there another foundation collection game that I may have missed in this class or in the first one?

On the Diamond drill…the reason I stopped on the blinds was that was what I thought you did on the demo video..stop and spin around.
Glad to know I should just keep moving which is what I wanted to do…

I haven’t reviewed your comments with the specific times in the vid but will do that later today and let you know if I have more questions!

I will do more racetrack and do usually do a lot of tunnels and fun stuff at the end that isn’t on the videos.

We also tried Mission Transition. After watching the video it looks like I need to decel earlier? He is going pretty long and wide over the jump even with verbal cue for tight turn.
I felt like I needed more distance to better show the difference between me accelerating and decelerating.

Here’s our first time doing Diamond Game. I found trying to do blinds without continuing to move and cross body rewarding very awkward…but I tried! I wasn’t getting super tight turns so please advise.
Also did a little wind in hair to mix things up a bit.

Yes all makes sense. I was trying to run a straight parallel line but I will set a bar or marker on the ground next time so I can pay more attention to my line.

Yes I see I did the turn cues at the wing..I will stay more lateral distance next time and see if it helps with turns.

    Thanks Tracy!

What do you think of the 8″ jump height for Robbie for this exercise?
Looked like Vanessa and Ruby did this drill with speed and impulsion… Was hoping Robbie would too but he’s just not that dog. That’s the only reason I had him run through a couple times… To let him know he could and to see if he would. But agreed.. If the form wasn’t there then not a good idea. I thought he looked more rounded the first 2 jumps when he was faster and only raised head at the 3rd but I will watch again.

he’s just not that frisky or animated. He is a thinker…and a latent learner for sure. Amazes me sometimes when I try something a few days later after an intro and he nails it and is ready to go on. Just was wanting a bit more gitty up by now. Hoping I can bring more of that out of him.

In between all this technical stuff I do short sequences (from Trkman or others from past classes etc) with lots of tunnels/jumps fast stuff which he loves and does turn on some jets. Same at some live seminars we’ve been to.
And always lots of chase games in various locations. So. Much. Work. When they are thinkers vs doers.

And yes way too hot too soon plus drought means even higher fire danger this year.

Here’s our first attempts at Wk 4 Ladder Drill.
The first several are with 5’ spacing. Then there is a label when the spacing changed to 4’ just to see if there was much difference. Jump bars are at 8”.

I included a couple passes where I let him run through it to see if his body rounded more etc. Hard to say, maybe a little better.

(and Kai also knocked that first bar a couple times and she is a great jumper..)

And a disclaimer…this was “cooling off” from 94 today to about 85…so he wasn’t super peppy but was a trooper to keep going. I can try it again in the morning one day once I get your feedback and advice. thanks

I’ve been meaning to ask on a serp what jump directionals do you use? i’m assuming soft left and right turn cues? I don’t think I’ve used verbals on serp before other than calling the dog

And thank you for telling me the progression on this exercise that I can move forward.
