ParticipantOMG yes on the set up! it was getting dark and I hurried to get it done…didn’t look quite right…geez. He’s such a trooper!
I will keep practicing with more attention to my shoulders and distance from the wing/jump, and with correct set up!
I think he did the threadles from different angles well and got the discriminations too?

Participanton the send to cones: yes I try to do ready ready or collar grab..he is fine with collar grab but it doesn’t evoke much opposition reflex even though I’ve tried to build it by having something he wants out ahead (food or toy) collar grab, wait for even slight pull..release. so far not much success getting good opposition reflex that way. Keep working on the baby steps for it?
sometimes I feel like if I just keep him moving instead of starting the cone wrap from a stop he is happier? maybe less clarity but he keeps going? idkNew video editing program, sorry I cut off a couple tries too soon and yes he did turn the wrong way a couple times.
The first backside “wrap” was really more of a slice since I didn’t follow the set up and simply ran with him from that side and asked for a push/backside slice, then kept in motion, wrapped the cone and then did the second one on the right wing as a wrap. But maybe he still needed to see more of the wing on the first one.
Thanks again for all the great feedback!

Participantwk 4 serp and threadle proofing, 1st attempt
(sorry it’s a bit long partly because I included both sides)1. I think I was too far from the jump in several attempts especially on the threadles?
2. I messed up my verbals without paying attention at the beginning, tried to be more consistent after the first few…
3. I also could have used even more open shoulder on many of the serps..some don’t look to me much different than my tunnel arm/shoulder…something to work on.
4. prob can do more excited happy rewards?I thought I was at the time but watching the video in many cases I barely celebrated..he’s a trooper and kept going.-

ParticipantWk 4 Rear Cross and backside wrap drills
This is our first attempt. Only got in one backside in this session. Did a few more later on but without filming and he was great.

ParticipantQuestion on wk 4, serps and threadles exercise:
Can the tunnel be placed either as a straight tunnel parallel to the jump or even curved away from the jump? I just don’t like having my dog cued to run into the side of the tunnel on the serp exercise.
LMK.thanks.

ParticipantHow long do we have to continue submitting videos and questions for this course?

Participantgood point about the verbals!
My verbal for jump in extension is “jump”.
that’s why I was mixing it with go on because it’s almost the same meaning but it wasn’t intentional for me to change the words. Go on , for me, is supposed to mean go on without me and take the obstacles in the line in front of you.
I will do my best to be more consistent .
I was having trouble figuring out best way to be in a position when he exited the tunnel so that he would be driving in front of me instead of lateral/parallel or behind/chasing…ended up being too much decel by accident.all good things to work on! thanks.
Did you notice I did take your advice and kept running after throwing the toy this time? he liked that much better than me slowing after throwing…lol!

ParticipantSecond attempt at Find the Jump. working it on the opposite side of first attempt.
throwing is a little earlier, yes?
Probably too much voice for this exercise,
Did lots of tugging in between reps plus his retrieve is getting better! still not always directly back to me in this scenario but much quicker than it has been.Wondering what else I can do…if I should be doing anything…to encourage him to drive harder away from me at the start?I tried running with him/pushing toward the tunnel a bit.

ParticipantGreat suggestions! Yes I have many long toys with bungee handles for chase games that I do from puppyhood.
I think I saw you rewarding Elektra in hand when she reached you in the first zig zag game so was emulating that, but I can certainly run away instead! For the Find the Jump, the toy is thrown as he focuses on the jump, then I keep running so in that game the toy is on the ground, yes?
For extra arousal I was particularly referring to immediately before sending to the cone–but yes in general I also want all the drive/engagement/motivation tips you can throw my way, PLEASE and THANK YOU! lol!
I have had 3 very good dogs that win locally but am hoping for my “next level” dog with Robbie…can use all the help I can get.
I will do more with simply sending around wing or cone and running away fast. Did it when first introduced wraps when he was little but need to keep doing it. Thanks for reminding me.
Kerry Levin
ParticipantON the find a jump, should I maybe move the cone further from the tunnel so he can build up speed?
Should I be concerned about his lack of bendiness on those wraps? He definitely isn’t as bendy as his Auntie Kai who you have worked with.-

ParticipantYes on the Zig Zag he definitely was different when I moved him so he had to turn left off his stay. I would say he is right handed, from what I’ve seen with him in other situations. For instance, racing around me or the other dogs he prefers to circle to the right, on the right lead.
I will look again at how my cues changed from either side too–see if that’s a factor.
I like the idea to wait until he just about reaches me and then I can take off running instead of just playing with the toy. Maybe drop the toy on the line and then I run away? And for increasing arousal: I can tug more, have him jump up on me, do weaves between legs–other suggestions for increasing arousal/drive? I need help with that, seem to keep getting lower arousal puppies with my last 2 (thought I was getting a crackerjack wild guy this time based on how he looked in litter–but hes a sweet mellow boy…sigh).

ParticipantZig Zags wk 3 with 2 & 3 wings.
Plus some motion exercises at the end…we have been doing some serps and slice jumps on our own and for workshops we have been to. He gets bored with the stationary exercises but I don’t want to miss some foundation steps.Kerry Levin
ParticipantOk here is our first real attempt at the Find the Jump exercise. I think I am throwing toy too late most of the time (he is getting faster! ) plus could use more connection but he gets it.
Kerry Levin
ParticipantHi had a few personal setbacks but trying to catch up a bit.
On week 3 Handling Game Find the Jump exercise can toy be placed on the line on ground after the jump? Robbie drives pretty well to toy on ground.

ParticipantQuestion on Zig Zag game: when the puppy is asked to come to your side of the second wing, your body position with arm across body is like a lead out pivot? I don’t use those anymore. Can I cue with open arm and turn my body in toward the wing and keep moving instead? That is more like something I would do on a lead out.
