hi, we’re ‘kind of back’ finally!
my hand is ‘functioning slightly better’ and it’s finally cooled down!

fun from today – Week 7 Zig Zag Grid.

at the beginning, one of the bars is not set because while I was setting everything up, this ‘animal’ was walking over jumps and knocking bars down 🙂 So I got ‘annoyed’ with fixing it and let it be. Just saying it’s not because he dropped it while jumping.

I did some rep with him sitting before first jump, but ‘sitting is a lot of work’ so we did some without ‘startline’.

Jumping/bouncing – LOL. Most of the times this ‘animal’ just walks, I think because spacing for him and how low the bars are; but few times he did ‘jumping’ too!

thank you! I see now how my ‘attempt on FC’ looked pretty much the same with lead-out push 🙂

we’ll try again ‘sometimes later’; our ‘beautiful 100+ degrees summer’ decided to come back tomorrow and stay pretty much for rest of this week. Sigh. Hope this is last ‘heat wave’ this season!

fun from today – we tried Week 8 “The Forced Front Cross and Forced Threadle Intro”

ok, the video is mostly forced FC’; because I didn’t turn on camera for ‘forced Threadles’. And this video is from ‘bad angle’ because my ‘little dog’ is blocking the camera’. But I hope you can see enough.

-I was very surprised he does it!! OMG we did learn A LOT in this class! I haven’t ‘ever’ done those before 🙂
and LOL – I ‘practiced’ with Golden first before I tried with Fly. Golden says ‘thank you it was fun’ 🙂

-I still can’t use my left hand as a ‘normal person’ so my handling is off and I’m throwing treats with ‘the only hand I can do it with’. I think I did try to throw thread with left hand once and oops it still hurts. Just saying that you don’t need to comment on that, I know it…

    — and we ordered set of weaves, “VersaWeaves” from AffordableAgility. Looks like those can be set as channel or 2×2. So we can get weaves class and will see which type of weaves Fly prefers 🙂

we signed on for next class!!
-I don’t think he is ‘ready’ but weather should be much better and hopefully my hand will heal by that time too and we will do what we can do 🙂
    – I also hope to take him to some trial this fall and run FEO, jumpers and FAST. So maybe it is actually the ‘right time’ to do this next class.

and we got to play “backyard AG today” 🙂
I still can’t hold anything (treats) in my left hand but at least it doesn’t hurt as much so I figured I can ‘manage’ a few short games.

    we tried “Week 7”,
    Concept Transfers: Lead Outs
and Wingin’ It: Turn Aways (Lap Turns and Tandem Turns)

    Lead Outs:
I didn’t reward startline by throwing treat back to him, because when I tried, it was ‘confusing’ him. (Not on video). On video, first clip -our little ‘startline routine’; this ‘jumping up’ is his favorite trick, so that’s what we do at startline. I’m also in-front of him since this seems to work better for him vs trying to position him on my left or right. (Well, we’ll see how it will work at the trials…)

“Front Cross” – I guess you can see that I wasn’t exactly sure what I should be doing and which way I should be turning…

Tandem Turns – at first I though “we’ll never got it” LOL But looks like he did get it!

and he was SO HAPPY to play today!

we missed you 🙂 we didn’t ‘disappeared’ – it’s just that my hand still hurts so can’t really do much 🙁
-just wanted to let you know we didn’t ‘decide to quit’, we LOVE the class. Just ‘can’t for now’

The only thing I would add is a marker that indicates that he can run to the MM.

good point, now need to figure out which marker to use…

so we already have ‘cookies’ – run WITH ME to cookie container. Container can be anywhere but he knows where it is. Container is ‘closed’, I need to open it so we have to run together

and we have ‘get it’ – he runs to treat without me. That is usually treat I throw – but I wonder if I can use the same cue word for machine? Or we better to have machine-specific cue? LOL – I’m running ‘out of words’ to use

today – much happier and faster Fly!
we started with just ONE wing, and machine closer to him
    then 2nd wing
    then 1 more jump
    then moved machine more
    etc etc

he is still ‘sticky’ when I’m releasing him from stay. And he is still ‘sticky’ at the machine (and it doesn’t help that machine was getting jammed often. So I did have to release treats more than once a few times. I’ll use better treats next time)

-around 1 min, where he missed the jump – I did reward him anyway. And now looking at the video, it wasn’t his fault for missing that jump 🙂

    – I think we can call ‘this step’ as done and try something else next time, before he gets bored. Also there isn’t enough room here to really work on ‘lead outs’ and ‘lines’… Suggestions which game we can do with this setup and ‘one-handed handler’?

oh, treat machine, how I could forgot about it!
LOL – I know ‘how’. Because someone often ‘can’t think’ when machine is out. Or we can only go direction TO the machine 🙂
or it was a ‘bad day’ today (but weather was nice!); or ‘bad setup’, or my ‘bad handling’ because he was so slow and at times wouldn’t even ‘release’ on sit/stay

so here is our clumsy attempt on “Lead Outs And Big Lines”. I used 2 wings instead of tunnel

do you think it’s too small of the space for this setup? Or we can try it again when we both ‘can do better’ 🙂
-I can’t go to AG field this week. Of course, when the weather is so nice….

if I didn’t mis-read it, MaxPup 4 will run this fall, right? when and how we can register?

so now the weather is nice – and of course, of course there must be ‘something else’. I injured my hand (palm/finger) so at least for a week, I’m ‘one-handed’. Can’t use left hand to hold/throw a treat and since I can’t fully open it, I’m worry that if I ‘handle’ with it, it might not ‘look right’ so it will confuse him – either now or later when it’s fully functioning again.

am I overthinking it and should just try? UGH it’s 69F only now and still light outside 🙁

–dogs were NOT at fault for this injury THIS time LOL

The rest of the reps should be straight lines or “racetracks” around the outside so he gets to go fast in extension rather than turn turn turn
If it ever cools down here 🙂

So we tried Serpentines. We did do Serps before but with different handling and he was ’50/50′ I think. So we tried to ‘start over’
-only after watching the video, I realized I should have put wings.

ETA – never mind, saw the answer to question below on FB! Yeppee late Sep, our weather should be MUCH better by then!
question. When is the last day of this class? And do you know already when MaxPup 4 will run? (I hope our weather will be better and we can ‘catch-up’ with this class and continue with next class :))

I’m using ‘spin-spin-spin’ cue 🙂 Can’t find anything better since ‘a lot’ of other reasonable cues are already taken for Rally or OB

question. If we can to do something this weekend, that would be backyard only, too hot for AG field.
do we continue with this above, 1 wing? Or go to ‘next step’?

    thanks!

I think we might be even ‘get it’, this first step in “Threadle Wrap”?
-and yeah again we both are ‘just from the pool’ and went back to the pool after. It’s not ‘sunny’ but ugh still hot

And today he didn’t want the toy at all 🙂

Comparing to Threadle Wrap, Tandem turn from yesterday doesn’t look ‘that hard’ anymore LOL

    >>Be sure that you turn parallel to the line you want him to come through on to get past the wing, and not move towards the wing until after you have turned him away
    I tried but I think I wasn’t ‘very good’ at it 🙂

This is ‘how far we got’ in 2 few minutes sessions, beginning and end of 2nd one is on video. Since I wasn’t getting much progress I decided to post this before trying next step there.

And he also was ‘done’, after few mins. “It’s hard” + “it’s hot” (seriously. 74F but full sun. Big Black dog)

questions about Cues for those turns/wraps. Do I use the same cue first to get him to ‘this side of the jump’ and then cue for turn/wrap? Since seems like both are starting with the same thing, to get the dog on this side of the wing. Or one cue to both get him to this side of the wing and then turn? (I understand ‘turn’ vs ‘wrap’ would be different cues). In the video I was using his name to call him to me

-to add to my confusion with cues, there is also ‘regular’ backside jump when dog is ahead of me and I’m not passing the jump line. For that one I use ‘push’.

    Thank you!

-editing video is fast for me; I’m re-watching those anyway and usually edit at the same time. But yes I asked because I think what is happening ‘in-between’ the reps can be helpful to see what we can do better and if we want to modify our ‘in-between’ the reps. But including all will add A LOT of time since we often play (food chase) between each rep; or if we use a toy, play with toy and then ‘getting a toy from Fly’ takes more time than actual rep 🙂 I guess I can include 1-2 ‘between’ going forward.
    ——
Another video from yesterday at AG yard.
    Tight Blinds To Wraps:

I think the same as in previous video, I’m ‘blocking’ his view of the ‘wrap’ wing
Where he is distracted here – people walking/talking outside. Happy he didn’t go there to check!

    ————
    Tandem turn:
AKA ‘it can’t be THAT complicated’ LOL
(BTW, forecast was wrong, it was warmer than I hoped it would be so ‘wet dog agility’ again :))

I’m including ‘beginning/middle/end’, multiple sessions, it was not a single session. I think majority of the time we spent on very first part with one wing.

I think we maybe got it at the end?

I’m also including sessions with toy. It was HIS choice to use toy, not mine. He brought me that toy and he wasn’t going to play for treats. So toy it was….

CRAZY! But look at SPEED of this CRAZY:) He sure can RUN!
I want that speed – but with ‘little bit of thinking’ LOL

I had to go all the way back to 1 wing only to ‘get him to think’, but I think we got ‘kind of some speed’ + ‘kind of some thinking’

Should we work more with toy because he is faster? But it’s harder to get him to ‘think’ also I suspect he is watching THE TOY and not me. Also he is ‘wider’ on turns with toy

    Tandem turn:

Weather was so nice today!! Well except for the wind – wind was pretty strong and I was worried that our wings wouldn’t stay up. But luckily they stayed up while we were there.

So we tried ‘new’ (for us) games from Week 4
Wingin’ It: Tunnel To A Wing – on backyard (with 2 jumps instead of tunnel)

Wingin’ It: The Ladder (Tunnel To 2 Wings) – at AG field.

Fly was pretty distracted at AG field today – there was some big party happening across the street, many cars driving/parking and people walking; he could see some, there is a piece of fence there that is ’chain-link’, not solid. Also noise. Just saying that it could have ‘contributed’ to him being slow – but I suspect it was mainly my handling, as usual 🙂

The Ladder: we pretty much just started on ‘backside’ class and looking at this game, I was SURE we won’t be able to do it. But I guess we kind of did it, on one side?
But still IDK either I was slow or he was slow or I was just doing it ‘wrong’, or maybe spacing between wings was too small – because I felt like I was waiting for Fly instead of ‘moving’

Now from the other side, LOL. You just said “You seem to have a side preference” – haha, here we go 🙂 From other side, it wasn’t Fly, it was me who kept forgetting where we are going and what we’re doing next and how to do it. The only rep on this video is the only one out of all our tries where it was ‘somewhere closer to what I think we were supposed to do 🙂

I also tried repeating cues as you suggested, I dont’ have it on video but interesting:
-with weaves, it totally helped, he didn’t pop out of the weaves earlier!
-but with backside, ‘push-push-push’ – he stopped and looked at me like “What? Don’t you see stupid I’m already doing it’ 🙂
so not sure if we should ‘practice it more’ so it’s not confusing, or if he is already doing it, ‘not’ repeat the cue? (which would be harder for me because “I can’t think when I’m running’ LOL

ETA: now YouTube is giving me a ‘hard time’. I tried uploading it as one video ‘million times’ but YouTube shows ‘processing’ that never actually finishes. So uploading as 2 videos instead….

and this brings up another question, about videos 🙂
-do you prefer me to post 1 video with ‘all games we played’, or separate videos for each game?

-do you prefer 1 post with longer video/videos, or ‘spread it out’ for multiple posts on different days if I know I won’t be doing more training for the next few days?

    – is it better to post ‘edited’ video with only games, or unedited section so you can see what is happening ‘in between’? Like reward/play/setup for next rep?

It did cool down! Was less than 80 and sun low when we were at AG field! And some breeze. Aren’t we lucky LOL
and tomorrow it should be even cooler, I’m so excited! Now I just hope we can get access to the field tomorrow too because I guess ALL AG students in this area will try to get some training done tomorrow. First ‘cool’ day this months!)

We didn’t try ‘new for us’ games because I knew we won’t be able to stay there ‘long’ (because of weather) – and new games I didn’t want to ‘rush’. So we went with “BC to tunnel’ with bars up, and countermotion with 4 wings finally.

Jump height – I usually have it at 16 in training ‘when I have it up’. But for BC to tunnel I did 12 today and I’m glad I did 12 not 16 – because even at 12 we had some knocked bars.

BC to tunnels: Oh we are going to get it right. LOL
I did draw line on the ground as you suggested. The problem is LOL I can’t see it while running 🙂

But I think I wasn’t TOO far from that ‘invisible line’

I was ‘late’ on showing him BC in some reps. Or more like in ‘most reps’. Oops it’s hard to think while running 🙂

0:25 – I’m really not sure what caused him to knock bar here.
    – ‘not’ taking middle jump, I think I turned too much so that’s why

0:45 – again not sure why bar ‘down’

    Wings
I have some full-jumps there instead of just wings, because this is how the field was set up – and I didn’t want to move it too much and then have to move back. But I think that worked? ( He was waiting in the field while I was moving everything so I wanted to get it done as fast as I can. Next time I’ll just keep him in the car with AC ON while I do setup)

if weather forecast is not laying to us, it maybe hopefully will be decent weather tomorrow and over the weekend!!

So hope we can get to AG yard

Question – I was looking at Week 4 games,
Wingin’ It: Tunnel To A Wing and Wingin’ It: The Ladder (Tunnel To 2 Wings)

I can just use 2 jumps instead of tunnel there, right? So for sending into right/left end of the tunnel, I can send to right/left jump, that would be similar?

Then if I have time after, I’ll try again BC with me ‘trusting him more’ 🙂 (so not moving as far to the landing side) and maybe bars up. maybe at 16?
